    How about Harry Kim?

Or is he off-limits due to his heavy use by Cryptic?

My two cents is that it would be nice to see the station headed By a more ethnically diverse crew. Especially the captain. So far Trek has had mostly Americans and one French guy as captain. Why not give the big chair to an ethnic minority for a change.
That was kinda the point of making a Latina Vulcan. So far we've only ever seen the one black Vulcan, too.

Also, I've got an ethnic Zulu chief petty officer in "The Hydra's Head" I could donate. Another suggestion would be to use the Shoko Futagami NPC somewhere. Asian redshirt, could be used as a Thai or something.

In theory, no: the EULA doesn't disallow us from using the character. In practice, probably yes, if only because of the complaints we're going to get about him not looking like Garrett Wang (which, we're not allowed to make him look like Wang).

The idea is that, for the station's main crew, we don't want to use any NPC for the crew that Cryptic could bring up again in future. Hence our stuff and NPC's that aren't used in the game anymore (ex. those at memory alpha).

And getting back to that, I'll create a new character for the Planetary Ecologist and/or First Contact Specialist pool by the end of the day.

Yeah we have to stay away from canon characters and any major ones cryptic is going to re-use, like Van Zyl or Gaius Selan.

As for ethnicity... my station commander candidate is Russian, if that helps :D

What about the Klingon on K-7? The one that has been interrogated for the past 6 years? I think that guy deserves a promotion.

The French are a bigger ethnic minority in America then black Americans (by that I mean there are fewer French). Minority is relative. What you mean is more non-white Anglo-Americans.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Probably best to avoid characters that might come up at other locations (including generic foundry NPC's). We might promote him to the station but he's never really going to be able to leave K-7. :P

I've yet to find a reason to write a story in Foundry where I have reason treat the color of someone's skin as being more important that the color of their shoes.... Having assorted colors of skin makes characters more distinctive, but... I'm not sure we have reason to care beyond that. Besides... It's 4 hundred or so years in the future... I suspect things would have changed a lot by then.

I now have screenshots for my other two nominees. I've gone back and added them to my original nomination post, but here they are again.

First, here's first-contact specialist nominee Sutek:

And here's my Chief of Operations nominee, whose name I have also changed to Rasputin Mozart Halliday (aka "Sparky"):

    Iht.jpg
    Name: Eith
    Faction: Federation?
    Candidate Station: First Contact Specialist
    From: New character
    Bio:
Iht's an empath, that's the first thing you need to know about her. The second thing is that Eiht doesn't like talking; not about herself, not about her past, and certainly not about who she saw together in jeffries tube 4 during the last maintenance cycle. You can feel it, the empty distance and the yawning gulf of time, but that's Eith. Eith is to herself. She'll work towards improving interspecies understanding but those connectives are extrinsic. They do not lead back to Eith.

    Haltaki.jpg
    Name: Dr. Mor Haltaki
    Faction: Romulan Republic
    Candidate Station: Planetary Ecologist
    From: New character
    Bio:
Dr. Haltaki strikes fear in the hearts of graduate students across the sector! He once made an Andorian cry for incorrectly applying a semi-variogram when there was in fact no spatial auto-correlation! That said, Dr. Haltaki may be on a tiny...probation after an incident which was almost certainly a setup! But worry not, Dr. Haltaki will wipe the smiles of the disciplinary boards faces after his penance with the Alliance Exploration Initiative becomes a boon to Science!

    Damn Starfleet Intelligence types!

Anyway I'd like to nominate someone
    2016-01-30_00001_zpsgnypiuha.jpg
    Name: Eris Nizarre
    Unjoined Trill
    Candidate station: Station Commander
from: Crisis on Calypso (in rework)
Eris Nizarre comes from a long line of Starfleet officers, she rose through the ranks when she got made First Officer of the U.S.S. Merseyside under Captain Isaac Jones,at some point she got reassigned to the command staff of Deep Space Five for a few year until her former commander Isaac Jones (now a Vice Admiral) requested her to be Captain of his flagship the U.S.S. Calypso
  • haurianthauriant Member Posts: 145 Arc User
Two from me. I'll need to give pictures soon.

Chief Engineer/Chief of Operations Lt. Commander Foline Maril (Female Joined Trill)

Foline wanted to take after her grandmother. She never expected to become her. Foline was visiting her grandmother, Starfleet Core of Engineering Admiral Drazila Matil when the ship was attacked by a Borg sphere. The admiral was killed just as the Borg were starting to assimilate her, but the symbol was saving by being beamed out of her before any nanoprobes could reach it. The sudden removal risked the symbiot’s life, and so a joining was deemed necessary as soon as the survivors escaped the ship. Although symbols were never supposed to be transferred within a family, Foline was the only available Trill.

Foline is left with a identity issues and emotional trouble, bur she uses her new lives of experience to control them, However, since four of the six Maril hosts have been Starfleet engineers, Foline is suddenly now an expert in many older technologies and engineering techniques, in addition to modern ones, giving her insights that those only familiar with the most modern techniques do not.

(Previous hosts include Chamid Maril (male), who taught at Starlet Academy and had Montgomery Scott as a student and Foline’s Grandmother, who was part of the team that developed the form of warp drive that didn’t damage the fabric of space.)

Planetary Ecologist Theorem [Maddox-Type Android, Male Construction]

Theorem is is part of a series of Maddox-type androids that use more recent technology to rethink every aspect of Dr. Soong’s designs. Designed by a team that includes a reformed Bruce Maddox and Data, he has an emotion chip that allows him to choose whether to feel the emotions it generates, meaning he only occasionally expresses emotions seen as negative. This leeds him to be seen as fluctuating between being happy or emotionless much of the time. When he deduces anger is called for — such as needless destruction of life — he can allow himself to feel rage, and he schedules time to mourn when something or someone he cares for has been destroyed. He also is known to have a confusing sense of aesthetics. He represents a new stage in androids, not feeing a need to model his nature after humanity of any other biological species, although he does share basic Federation values.

Theorem felt drawn to biological sciences in a hope to understand organic life and its interactions to use as a sort of comparison to his constructed existence, however he is not a member of Starfleet. He noticed that many recently-made androids have joined Starfleet, probably following Data’s example, and think it is important for there to be an example of androids who follow a different path. His path just also led to the stars.

Here's a new character I made as another candidate for Communications Officer.

    Name: Tukv
    3q59WGn.png

    Faction: Federation (Tellerite)
    Candidate Station: Communications Officer
    Rank: Lieutenant
    From: [New character]

    Bio:
Tukv's preposterously wide and sesquipedalian vocabularly in eight languages can make him hard to understand, but it is only the byproduct of his excellent xenolinguisitic skills. One only needs to remind him to use "simplistic dialogue" on occasion.

    Note:
Spyro 3's Bentely is where I got the idea for this guy:

I have a candidate for Chief of Operation/ Engineering
    :j_ret_by_stofoundryphiles-d9q6izo.jpg

    Name: J'ret
    Rank: Chief of Station Operation
    Faction: Rom Republic
    Race: Android

J'ret is a former Tal Shiar interrogation android which defected when her moral subroutines were activated after an electrical accident. She is a very efficient and trustworthy officer and due to their experimentation with Borg technology Tal Shiar androids are superior to those found in the Federation.

    I also couldn't resist creating a CMO:
    dr_phlegg_by_stofoundryphiles-d9q6rfo.png
    Name: Dr. Phlegg
    Race: Ferengi (Starfleet)
    Rank: Chief Medical officer
Bio: Much to his mother's chagrin Phlegg chose a career in medicine which has brought his family much shame. Fortunately despite his bedside manner, reputation for peddling miracle cures and germ phobia (he insists on wearing a breath mask even though such precautions are unnecessary in the 25th century) Phlegg has proven to be a very good medical officer who has specialized in obstetrics and in xenobiology a field that is quite useful on Starbase Magellan.

I have given my nominees some more detailed biographies (see below), so drogyn1701, you might want to update them on your list document.
    Planetary Ecologist nominee:
    Margaret Evans
(Federation, human female, from "Ghosts of War" Parts I and VI)
    Evans.jpg
Margaret Evans is an accomplished civilian exobiologist. She began her career as an intern on Nelris Prime shortly following its first contact with the Federation, studying the Nelri race (humanoids with chlorophyll-based pigmentation enabling them to photosynthesize vital nutrients) and how they and their civilization evolved in harmony with their homeworld's environment.

Later, in 2409, Evans led a team of exobiologists and exobotanists to study the major land-based ecosystems of Verena III, a planet in the former Romulan Neutral Zone noted for its high degree of biodiversity. The team is still on Verena III - Evans once remarked that their work there could conceivably go on for decades - but she herself jumped at the opportunity to join the Alliance Exploration Initiative.

(Note: In the alternate timeline of the Ghosts of War series, Evans and her team were killed in the thalaron attack that sterilized the surface of Verena III.)

    Chief of Station Operations nominee:
    Rasputin Mozart "Sparky" Halliday
    (Federation, photonic lifeform, new character)
    Halliday.jpg
Halliday was created as a Starfleet Repair and Maintenance Hologram (RMH) and installed aboard Starbase Magellan. At the time of his first activation, the RMH had no name and a more conventional humanoid appearance than the one pictured. He was, in fact, one of many RMH's active aboard Starbase Magellan during the final stages of its construction, overseeing the installation and testing of its many systems and subsystems.

Seeing that the RMH was already intimately familiar with the facility, the station commander decided to retain him as Chief of Operations - but insisted that he choose, or be given, a proper name for himself. Having become aware of his own sentience - and of the holographic-rights movement that recently roiled Federation politics - the RMH was only too happy to oblige, ultimately selecting a name that was unmistakably unique, yet retained the "RMH" initials. (Note: The Halliday surname is a reference to one of the main characters of the novel (and in-development film) Ready Player One.) While he was at it, Halliday also changed up his appearance to be as unconventional as his name. In fact, as a sentient hologram he can change his appearance at will, so he doesn't have to look the same for every mission, and his appearance can evolve over time.

Like the station's other holographic personnel, Halliday can go anywhere aboard the station where holoprojectors are installed. He also has a mobile emitter which enables him to leave the station for special assignments, including repairs in high, low or variable gravity, and non-Class M environments (for which he requires neither an EV suit nor gravity boots).

    First Contact specialist nominee:
    Sutek
    (Federation, Vulcan male, new character)
    Sutek.jpg
Sutek's ancestors include T'Pol (Vulcan liaison officer aboard the original U.S.S. Enterprise, NX-01) and one of the Vulcans involved in the First Contact with humans in 2063 CE. As such, he has an affinity and a unique perspective on first-contact situations and best practices, in addition to his training and expertise in official first-contact protocols. Although only Starfleet personnel are officially bound by these protocols, KDF, Romulan Republic and other allied personnel involved in the Initiative may also seek Sutek's guidance for more pragmatic reasons, such as avoiding entanglements in alien conflicts.

    CaN8nuzW0AAXxHo.png
    Name: Alphonse A. Ross (Cmdr)
    Faction: Federation (Reserve activation clause)
    Candidate Station: Strategic Operations Officer
    Bio:
Born on Mars to "well intentioned" parents, Ross made a career in Starfleet Security by trying to do the right thing. However as circumstances and attitudes change so does the definition of "right." His early years in service on Tellar Prime were applauded. His later years as head of a small security team were not. Eventually, he resigned and has spent his retirement wandering around the galaxy and generally getting in the "right" people's way. However, with the emergence of the Krenim and Na'kuhl as threats to the still fragile Alliance Ross has reapplied for Starfleet service. All the better, because someone back at HQ has just triggered his reserve activation clause.

I've also given Havraha a heads-up in case he wants to nominate Ensign Helna. (Maybe there could be a promotion in it for her?)

On a similar note, I imagine there would be a lot of hilarious hijinks involved if somebody contacted XR-377 and nominated a certain Photonic Studies Specialist...

No idea for what role, though. Hmm.

    42 of 47:

    Hortock:

    Emani:

Frankly I think at this point she's been active long enough to get the automatic bump to JG (you know, the one Harry Kim never got because B&B suck). I'd support her inclusion, and also an option to congratulate her on the promotion.

I'd rather have people nominate their own characters directly. I just don't want a situation where we use someone's Foundry character and it wasn't really with their permission. It's not a legal issues since any character we make is owned by Cryptic, it's just a courtesy issue.

Anyway, I'm going to leave nominations open until tomorrow, when I'll start the voting on the candidates!
