How do you get higher quality BOFFs?

kojekoje Member Posts: 81 Arc User
I know you can buy common quality Boffs from NPC and you get some special ones as mission rewards during some stories. I also know I can buy Boffs on the exchange from other players but how does one get them? Is it only from getting a critical on the few Duty Officer missions that reward a Boff?

Most of them come from the missions. I forget ... i think you can get some from fleet store, and some from zen store, might be some in lobi store, many from leveling up, ... what are you looking for?

Doff missions are a great source. When doffing pick those missions first so you can assign the best doff for a crit chance.

The exchange is good if you don't care about the race or gender of your officer. Orion female VR = expensive, most KDF male VR = dirt cheap. If you're looking for bridge bunnies, Alien race can be a cheap choice for female VR and you can make them look like the other races.

Besides doffing, story missions, fleet stores and the exchange there are some others that are bound to you so can't be sold:

The Delta Pack gives 3 VR Intel boffs you can claim for every character that you create.

Reaching level 5 in Diplomacy in doffing gives you 1 cross-faction boff.

Lifetime subscribers get an Android boff, of the type and gender of your choice, one per character.

The C-Store sells some special boffs.

I say the exchange. The vast majority of purple quality duty officers are very cheap and if you're willing to settle for blue (not any noticeable drawback, just 1 or 2 slightly weaker traits) they are very, very cheap. You won't get the cream of the Min-Maxing crop or those limited by artificial supply constraints (ex. TAC/SCI aliens, remans/romulans) but you'll get everything you need to get you going.

Thank you for the replies. I know I can buy from exchange but I guess what I'm asking is how did those people who are selling Boffs on the exchange get them in the first place? How does one go about getting a very rare Boff without buying it on the exchange and excluding the ones you get as mission rewards.

I'm guessing it's either buy from fleet / zen / lobi / c-store or the one Recruitment Doff mission?

Most on the exchange came from the DO missions. Probably all of them that didnt come from the lobi store, and I don't think the lobi store ones are a thing anymore (they were, briefly, back when t6 seating was new).

But if you are looking for romulan boff's you are out of luck until they put them back in the doff mission database.
This has happened several times so hopefully they will eventually notice the posts about it and the missions will reappear at some point. =/

  • Observation: the OP is talking about BOFFs (Bridge Officers) not DOFFs (Duty officers).
    You mean DOFFs, right?

Not just "the one." There are several different Doff missions to recruit Bridge Officers. There is one set of blue rarity missions with different races like Humans and Vulcans (Fed) or Klingons and Orions (KDF). These missions require that you assign a doff and give you a VR if the assignment crits. There are a second set of "achievement" missions tied to the different doff mission types (Engineering, Military, etc.) that are purple and do not need a doff assigned to them they give other races like Tellerite and Ferengi. These also give VR on crit.
