I'm really enjoying the game, but I have some stuff I coudn't figure by myself in the one week I'm playing.

-I used the command /screenshot_ui_jpg (or something similar), and then I only can get screenshots without the toolbars, or any other thing besides the scenario where I am. A good feature, but I coudn't figure how to take screenshots with the hud to show other stuff I need answers too.

-is there a free ship when I reach lvl 60. I believe I made a bad choice over my last ship and I woudn't like to start over.

-no new missions when reach admiral besides the forge missions and patrol missions? Like the ones that poup out of nothing.

-what are the advantages of creating / entering a fleet for a pvp hater like me?

    • ALT+PrtScrn (typically located above your Insert Key) might be what you're after.
    • Nope, nothing for free at 60, but there are quite often promotional ships that are made available that you should work toward snagging. It can be difficult to get out of your last free ship and into something nicer on your first character, but there are a lot of opportunities to keep improving. If you keep up trying to do things like "Tour the Galaxy" where you can make a couple hundred thousand EC a day, you could save up and buy a mirror universe ship. The Mirror Patrol Escort (which looks like the advanced escort) is a fun one. But you can't upgrade them to T5.
    • Hit J to pull up a series of things to look through regarding your missions. One of the tabs is "Episodes" and it will give a nice break down of the separate story arcs, what level you need to be to play them, and so on. You can also "skip" a lot of the episodes, but I recommend playing them all at least once. Many of these aren't available until you're already 60, so there still should be plenty of content left for you to try out.
    • I strongly recommend getting in the fleet. There really aren't any downsides to joining one aside from seeing people post in fleet chat. Depending on what fleet you join, you're very likely to find people that are very willing to help out, give you stuff, or at the very least tell you where to look to find your answer. You'll also get access to fleet stores, and ships that you can buy without ZEN (some just cost 200,000 fleet credits and shipyard provisions) and even better versions (fleet ships, which cost typically 20,000 fleet credits and fleet modules (which are expensive)) And most fleets don't PVP, most fleets are PVE.

    Screenshots:

There's the base command, /screenshot. You can add either or both of the _ui or _jpg tags to it. -_ui makes it take the screenshot without the ui, and _jpg makes it save it as a jpg (I believe otherwise it's a .tiff file, possibly?)

What you want is probably just /screenshot_jpg (since it doesn't have the _ui, it won't remove the ui from the screenshot), but if you like uncompressed files and have a good photo editor, just /screenshot might be for you.

Elothox covered the rest pretty well.

Wait tour the galaxy gives you 200k energy credits seriously
  • elothoxelothox Member Posts: 170 Arc User
This is old info, but the theoretical max is 475,000 EC.

If you want a new ship then you either buy from the exchange, very few, or grind Dilithium. If you don't like your current ship then Dilithium is probably the way.

10 days grinding can get you a Tier 5 ship.

One thing to be aware of is that as you level up, your enemies get better. You need to upgrade your kit to stand a chance.

I haven't found anywhere dilithium ships, anyway, I'm almost lvl 60, would a fleet ship be good?

And I coudn't figure the screenshot thing, with alt+printscreen I only get the same screenshots without hud in TGA form.

Go to the ship requisition. You will find that any ship you could have had, whilst upgrading, will be available for Dilithium.

Fleet ships are excellent but just look at the cost!

If you are really unhappy with your ship the avenues I have suggested are the way to go, unless you want to spend cash.

I feel for you because the Romulan ship I got for one of my alts is a piece a rubbish. Trying to butter up Mrs Glenn so she will let me spend out on a Tier 6 Morgai.

You don't get a ship at level 50, do you?
  • murkalael#7691 murkalael Member Posts: 184 Arc User
Yes, you get the last one at level 50, but in my oppinnion I did a bad choice because I was still learning the game and was refusing every single fleet invite I received, Now I'm on a fleet and things begun to get clear and I see way better choices on shipyards for fleet credits.

you get between 3-4 free max level ships every year from events.
Fleet ships are great but troublesome to get... you need fleet modules which cost millions of EC or a fair bit of zen. Also, you can't reclaim them on alts. If you buy the base ship for zen and pay 1 module, you can do that on many chars. Basically, buying the non fleet version saves you if you ever use that ship again on another character.

You can get ships off the exchange but talking over 100 million usually.

My advice is to work with what you can for now and save up for the ship you want (whether that is zen or credits). Meanwhile review the free ships that will be available in the summer event and whatever else might be coming soon.

fleet has nothing to do with pvp unless your fleet is pvp themed. Plenty of PVE fleets / casual fleets.
fleets offer stores full of great items .. the tac consoles, frigate pets for carriers, warp cores, fleet ships, and a few other items are very nice to have.

I've seen quite a few people say this, but I have yet to see anything about it. You get a level 40 t5 ship at level 40 and nothing after that. I have yet to see any links to release notes or news updates that they're making a ship available at 50. I have 9 level 60s right now, and I just leveled one of them that I made from scratch in November, no free ship at 50. I have a level 41 rommie, so who knows.

You have to be a veteran with so many days as a subscriber (I think around 400-600 days) or a lifetime subscriber

Haha, sorry, my bad, at first too much info was overwhelming so I might have mistaken this info and no, I'm not a subscriber, just recently found out about the game. After all those wasted years looking for a sci-fi mmo without forced pvp, I finally arrived on STO. And still learning, so noob questions and of course, noob answers.

there is no such thing as a noob question,we were all beginners at one point when we started playing. It's better to ask questions than let your enjoyment of the game be hampered.Welcome to the game by the way!

I believe the VA (50) token is only available after a certain number of days subscribed.

Thanks for the clarification on the above, getting the veteran ships is something you're paying for in a sense. So I don't think it's fair to call it "free" like the ones you get at 10, 20, 30, and 40. But... point taken. You also get a ship at 1000 days as well.

Yeah, I wouldn't call the ship free either, but a lot of people just know that they get a token at 50 like they do with every other promo so it's easy enough to see where the idea of that ship being free comes from.
