Can't ue free Starship upgrade token

Hi

I am probably being really dumb here but I have a question. I have searched the internet and these forums before posting.

I recently received a free upgrade token. It is to upgrade a tier 5 ship to a 5U. I have followed the instructions (go to ship selection officer) and yet the upgrade button is not there. I am trying to upgrade my Assault Cruiser (Sovreign). I am assuming that is a tier 5 ship?

    That is a t5 ship, but not one with a t5u version, I'm afraid. None of the free-at-level-40 ships are upgradeable, nor are the lockbox "consolation prize" ships, such as mirror ships or the Malon scow.

    Yes, this.

    If you have the regular Assault Cruiser that you got from playing the story missions, that ship cannot be upgraded to T5U.

    If however, you have the Assault Cruiser Refit from the C-Store, or the Fleet Assault Cruiser Refit from the Fleet Star Base, you can upgrade those to T5U.

    Go there. Any ship that is Tier 5 - Level 40 and has a checkmark next to it can be upgraded to 5U.

    As far as I know, all of the Level 50 C-Store Tier 5s can be upgraded to 5U.

    If you want to look at a ship you can upgrade, claim the Excelsior Refit, that's currently available for free. You'll see the difference between your assault cruiser and an upgradable ship.

    The Malon trash hauler is upgadable

    Not entirely a ruse, they did follow-up by giving away 3 ships, all of which could be upgraded. If you missed out on those that is unfortunate. And there are numerous ways of getting 5-U capable ships without spending a dime; the exchange, dilithium grinding for Zen, or special event prizes such as the Risian ships.

    The Winter Event is also right around the corner and will award a free T6 ship. If you don't want to spend on a new ship, then just go with what you have for another month or two and you'll get a free T6.

    The Winter Event? I shall look out for that. Only been playing for a short while so am still very unfamiliar.

    For all the complaints, cryptic is *very* generous. You will be offered about 4 ships per year, sometimes more. Winter and summer events each give a ship, and since you are new, they will offer you a choice of several from previous years. The winter ships are all very, very good -- a breen raider (flanks, universal officer stations, kinda like a BOP to make sure that feds can get anything kdf has), some kind of middle of the road "cruiser" that is decently tactical, and a science themed t6 carrier that is about like the recluse and better than the catian. Summer's nandi from this year was also a great middle of the road science/tactical capable "cruiser". Basically, youll get a free great ship sooner or later!

    OP only a C-Store T5 or lock box T5s can be upgraded to 5U
    also you can upgrade any T5 fleet ship to 5U

    As other people stated, "free/voucher" and dilithium ships from the requisition store are NOT upgradable, as well as Mirror ships.

    You can use it either on a C-Store T5 ship, or, if you have none, you can quite easily buy a T5 "lockbox consolation prize" ship off the exchange (about 4-5mil EC, they used to sell for 500k-2mil before Admiralty). These are:

    Malon Battlecruiser
    Nihydron Destroyer
    APU Cruiser
    Kazon Heavy Raider

    Also remember that for every ship you upgrade to T5U, you will be able to upgrade that same ship to T5U for free on another character (or the same one if you discard it for any reason).

    Just to update. I got the APU cruiser and having flown for about a week I like it. With the upgrade it as tough as old boots. Does not look good but does the job.

    I am from Belgium and english isn't my main language, sorry if I make mistakes.

    Those of us who have wives know that $30 dollars is out of our range.

    Given that, the APU is a good ship. It is better than my Sovvy and that is what counts!
