On a peaceful mission

How many people here agree this season needs to see an increase of missions where The Player doesn't shoot someone, or something. Aside from exploration of space phenomena, xenobiology on and off planets, and archaeology, there are also bottle episodes in the ships interior we could do, a little like that last part of mission "Mine Enemy" where we had to go to the ready room to decode those files from Hakeev's base at the Hfihar system.

The "Space Bar" is bigger than the "F Key"

Well, fine, go into the Foundry and look up "Darkness between the Stars". Plenty of exploration and archaeology for you. :p

It would be nice if there was an enticing story to be had. I personally loathe the temporal cold war stuff we're going to be having. With the Iconians I didn't like the story and fighting them was terrible. Now we at least fight enemies that aren't a pain. So not using that window of opportunity for painless pew pew would be a shame.

Problem is the game mechanics are too geared towards combat. If we could just have a new way to interface, besides the minigames, to build player interactions around we might get more missions where we don't shoot someone. It would finally feel a bit more Trek!

It needs to be challenging, like add mathematical questions when trying to access consoles.

Personally, I hated those kinds of mission running around doing nothing but scanning. Sunrise was nice in that it at least played out like a standard ST episode; you're going about doing your your peaceful mission when suddenly, the plot kicks in and you have to deal with it. Of course, we only have one option since the Tholians started it. And that's to annihilate them.

That doesn't mean I always like pure action; I wish that subsequent replays of that one Kobali FE with the maze offered a pure talk-only shortcut to end the mission faster, after doing all that fighting up to the temple. Allow for a peaceful resolution at least on replays.

I wouldn't mind a pure discussion episode that lets us spam the "F" key until the key paint falls off though, as long as I don't have to do a bunch of pointless puzzles or scans (if that's the case, leave it for Exploration if/when it comes). Let me enjoy some dialogue that paints the situation, the methods of trying to handle it, and choices to offer up in the illusion that whatever I'm choosing matters (even if it doesn't even matter in the next mission). Yes, I'd enjoy a well-written reading session that pretends to be a philosophical argument between factions and means to try and resolve the situation. Give us a chance to actually see some quality writing from the Devs and enlighten us more on the political/diplomatic state.

What would be better is a mission where The Player is called to their factions HQ for debriefing on what is known from Capt. Archers records about the Temporal Cold War, or we end up in sickbay after some illness, and The Player and some other patients end up as the audience for some "General Hospital-style" drama between personnel.

We can also do something based on our profession, ENGs go to Utopia Planitia to oversee new ship repair equipment. SCIs turn in supplies to Memory Alpha, or learn new methods from Starfleet Medical(wherever it is). Not sure what TACs should do, maybe that debriefing mentioned above.

perhaps allow us to set phasers to 'stun', how hard could it be to have 2 settings for ground weapons, and i'm NOT talking about how it is now,i mean a 'stun' that actually works...............
