Earth zone question

Should Starfleet Academy be made only for the Federation Player tutorial, while the main zone be Starfleet Command, or even Federation Headquarters in France instead?

I think so, since it would be better, even if we keep can the Academy in, just add a way to go between locations, either via transporter, shuttle, train, or a car even as the zone out trigger.

I rarely go back to the Academy, so as far as I'm concerned, it's only for the tutorial. Federation HQ in France seems to consist of maybe one or two rooms at the most and wouldn't be very interesting. What would we do there?

Sure, two rooms 30 years ago, but the game isn't limited by how small the soundstage is because there aren't any, CGI environments can be any size needed.

I regularly go down to the Academy. It's the quickest way to get to my bank, mail and exchange, that's where you can get some nice DOffs and it's a refreshing open place to be after being in space for a while or cooped up in the dim confines of a Starbase.

AFAIK the Federation headquarters is just a building so while I wouldn't mind that added in, it'll probably feel just like a Starbase - sterile and office-like. I'd still prefer the open garden, blue skies and waterfront backdrop of the Academy.

Also the Daily Lore questions. Dilithium and about 4,000 XP for a minute's worth of 'work'. Also the Academy let's you get to ESD Dock. Go direct from orbit, no need to play chicken with ESD with your ship. Then to ESD from that beam down.

Admittedly i think Federation HQ zone would only be used for a mission where The Player escorts the Lukari ambassador to Earth, where they speak with President Okeg, then head to the council room, maybe the same one we saw in STVI. Location and NPC's will differ based on which faction The Player is.

It's a little sad we haven't seen the Federation Council chambers in the game, or the President. Post 60 we should be getting our orders from the President or the Commander of Starfleet rather than Quinn or random Captains & Generals so it would make a good post-60 zone.

Though does anyone get the feeling that as Okeg hasn't been mentioned by name once in the game so far that maybe they're holding out to retcon a big name in there at some point when they have a VO onboard? President Picard for instance.

Um.... When exactly did "Federation Headquarters" move to France?

Please, not President Picard. I could see him teaching at the academy but not as the UFP Prez.

Starfleet Command itself is in San Fransisco. But that's not to say the actual Federation HQ is in the same place.

In an interplanetary alliance, having Starfleet Command in San Fran, and having Fed HQ in Paris is pretty inconsequential, they're both on earth and if you have warp drive already you can definitely at least get to the other side of the planet without a problem.

The only consequence was that I had never heard of UFP HQ being in France. I woulde thought it would have been in New York, where the HQ of the UN was.

Erm no. Even though Jar Jar & co may have effed up royally in many respects, even they put Starfleet HQ in San Francisco. So where does everyone get the France thing from?

Starfleet HQ and the federation government HQ are not the same thing. it's like the white house and the pentagon.

I personally expected Okeg to be there next to J'mpok at the Chancellors hall instead of admiral Quinn at the end of "Surface Tension".

There are two Missions there, each one gives out somewhere near to 1700 or 1800 combining both type awards.

Just rechecked - each gives 903 Specialization Expertise and 1003 Expertise and 480 Dilitium.

Thats weird that they make a point of saying that SFCHQ is in San Francisco but never say one word about the seat of the UFP being Paris, France. I would have thought they would've chosen New York City (seat of the U.N) . Still, like another person said, it could be Las Vegas or even Kings Dominion (Six Flags) in Virginia but its probably Paris.

Would've been hilarious if the backdrop had been the worlds largest can of beer though :) .

and you can see the Eiffel Tower whenever you've seen the Presidents office in deep space nine or star trek vi.Though another thought's occurred.......that can't be the orginial Eiffel Tower since Paris would of been nuked in World War 3 (probably)

If we can go back to the SF Command half of my thread, is it on the same plot as the Academy, or on the other end of the Golden Gate Bridge?
