Request: Ground Mounts!

in Star Trek Online General Discussion
Just out of curiosity, do we get ground mounts for faster traveling instead of just walking? I am still new to this game but I was just mainly curious if we would be able to get it cause I HATE walking.. Just wondering.

    I believe that WoW is the game you're looking for.

    That would be great! Especially for a big open maps like ground battlezones, Nimbus III and other such areas. I fully support this, and if Defiance can have it, there is no reason why STO couldn't.

    And if they don't want to do that, they could always give us option to use flyers on such big maps. Just image how cool would it be to be able to shoot at your enemies while fyling (like in GTA San Andreas with jetpack) :D

    I was just mainly curious really.. I hate running around and yes I used to play WoW so I am used to having a mount for my character..

    most maps have no mount facility at present, there was talk of adding ground vehicles of some nature for certain maps but this never come to light, the only map at present that has any form of transport other then shanks's pony is risa where you get to use powered surf boards (only over water) and jet packs.

    When I think about everything we've been through together,

    maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

     and if that journey takes a little longer,

    so we can do something we all believe in,

     I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

    I think it was also mentioned that most of the maps and missions available would not work well with any kind of mount or hover-style travel.​​

    Apart from the already mentioned Risa gear, the only way to travel faster without needing specific gear or traits would be to get the Frosted boots from the Winter Event that's probably starting somewhere next week.

    Those can be used outside the Winter event as well, btw.

    A few other options would be to get specific gear like the motion accelerator if you're a tac, or a weapon with the [run] modifier although I do not know if these options make that much of a difference.

    There is at least 40 things I can think that need to be in game before mounts, and another 40 things that need maintenance performed/adjusted.

    Like others have said, this is probably not the game you're looking for if you want to ride around on a speeder or horse all day.

    There's only like one or two maps even big enough to almost sort of kinda but not really justify mounts. I vote no, if only for dev time to not be wasted on something so trivial.

    There are rarely any ground areas that are large enough to warrant a mount, and those that might normally have teleporters or other forms of quick travel. Also you have quite afew ways of moving quite quickly even more so than the run option we have. Honestly with how small the maps in sto are for ground mounts would be a waste.

    It would be boss to have the Argo in game, but there are hundreds of other things that need to be addressed first.
