I've been doing a lot of the group missions lately, and one thing I noticed a couple of times was someone firing off an ungodly amount of torpedoes right at the start of a fight. I know the one lieutenant commander bridge officer skill fires multiple torpedoes, but for me, that's always been maybe five or so per target. But this ability I've been seeing lately is like firing an armada of torpedoes at an enemy, and I can't figure out how they're doing it. The other day, I was in the shuttle fight (where you can only use the level 1 ability for a bridge officer) and someone fired one of those massive torpedo onslaughts then, too.
So, what ability or combo are they using to do that?

Here is from the wiki for TS3:
Upgrades your next torpedo attack.
Attacking up to five targets at once (5 clusters of 8 regular or 4 special torpedo).
Fire a pattern of several torpedoes, dealing moderate targeted AoE damage.
So it's actually 40 torpedoes max. But if you're using some other type of torpedo like plasma it's definitely not this many (not even 32 as this would seem to indicate).

I personally have a TS1 on my Delta Flyer and it puts out only 2 torps per target so that's only 6 in total I think? Maybe the point defense system?

It actually has 9x4 = 36 charges.
It has the point defense system which fires off a volley of 6 Photon Torpedoes up to 8 targets, and you can also use TS3 with w/e torpedo you have equipped and if your using photon, that's another 8 torpedoes per volley up to 5 targets.
So your potentially firing off a grand total of 88 photon torpedoes if your firing off at the maximum number of targets both the torpedo point defense system and TS3 can offer.

No... Torp abilities have a shared cooldown, and at least 15 seconds of barrier between each activation.

I have seen what he is talking about and it is done like bluemodelt says but I am not sure that there are actually that many live torpedoes flying, just shiny dots.
EDIT: hard to explain in shuttle though as they have no slots for double of anything and if they are firing a beam as well, you know they don't have 2 torpedoes.
