Maps are not optimized, instead of next game update, how about...

bjchiemarabjchiemara Member Posts: 82 Arc User
...instead you have your mappers go through the maps and take the left over garbage out and touch them up so they run efficiently like they are suppose to, and instead of cramming deadlines down mappers throats so they haphazardly piece a map area together so it is garbage, you give your mappers time to do the job right the first time.

Also, instead of rushing your coders when they tweak rendering code or add effects to the way lighting or reflections or whatever else is adding to the unoptimized maps issue, you let them test it on low end hardware for consistent fps before releasing it.

Maps that I use to get 60 fps in are now giving me a whopping 17-20 fps. This is consistent no matter what resolution I'm at, window maximized, window fullscreen, or fullscreen. Resolution scale from lowest to 100, settings high or settings low. The framrate is unchanged, indicating it isn't a hardware issue on my end but how the game is telling my hardware to render the scene. In all instances, the code is not being straightforward with my hardware and causing it to render like TRIBBLE. Normally I am at 1080 full settings and can stare at a field of asteroids and maybe dip to 45 fps on the low end.

I've played this game since open beta and I am a hardware / software specialist at the company I work for... I've done level design for games and I worked at a College specifically as a systems troubleshooter. I know my field and related fields pretty well. I know this is not my hardware.

I have stopped playing the game entirely since this is unplayable. I've been playing DCUO which gives me full framrates at max settings, other games that have no issues: Max Payne 3, Hitman Absolution, Tomb Raider (2012), Far Cry 3, Mass Effect Trilogy, Crysis, Battlefield Hardline... STO is currently the only game that isn't playable and it use to be the one that I could count on to be playable.

This is not cool...

Yeah game has been running into major lag issues on ground lately...

It's not the maps. Or at least not just the maps. Ships are getting more polygons. They are getting more detailed. (And players still complain they don't look like in the series and films...)
Anyway, Cryptic's engine is very adaptive. You can turn down details so much that a single core CPU can play it.

Nope this is the SAME computer which plays these maps without an issue just a week ago. same hardware same drivers.

Fairly new player here so all I have to go on is the stories by the old timers, but didn't Cryptic at one point dedicate a season or two entirely to bug/lag/ect fixing? That is, no new contents at all, only fixes.
If I recall the stories correctly it made the majority of the player base was extremely pissed and many left, so I doubt they'd be doing it again.
Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end of it.

If you started having issues on maps, I think the bug forum would be the place to go, including more details like which maps, whether you noticed something else, and so on.

Anyone that leaves because the devs spend time fixing the game, won't be missed, they don't need to be here...rightfully so, since they prefer the code and texture/modeling work to get so sloppy and out of control that eventually the game is completely unplayable rather than have them clean up between releases.

People like that have no realistic view on anything, they just expect things to work without understanding how or why things work... which makes them useless individuals...

on the short term, might seem more profitable to just keep puting content out, but on the long run, players get tieredof the same bad performance and go try other things.

currently, it's awfully painful annoying to try to run the Mirror event.
at certain times of the day, the map load just hangs forever with the client unresponsive and i know i'm not the only one having that issue.
the map load freezes trying to enter the Mirror event, i have to restart the client, get back in the mirror and get immediately kicked off, making the new map loading freeze.
this can go for over 40 minutes with just 1 character.
(i am not exaggerating, it's 40 minutes or more, on just one alt, this happens especially at certain times of the day)

trying to do the mirror event with several alts becomes impossible when i spend 40 minutes failing to even run 1 Mirror event scenario on 1 alt.

a buddy traced the issue to a delay in time reply from one of the servers ... apparently a issue that was supposed to have been resolved ...

this kind of bad issues and poor performance ends up making players getting tiered of trying to run a client that keeps having bad performance when we know it's not our hardware.

in the end, a better quality makes the players hang around more than just going to try other stuff.

i also noticed some lower performance on some maps, seems to freeze up a bit.

i appreciate the post starter for pointing this issues out because in the long term, every one wins, by getting a better quality game. :)

Or how about instead of creating new content those devs can be dedicated instead to fixing bugs, no more new content until all the bugs are fixed....... >:)
