I just came back to STO and saw a cool event going on where you can donate to anti-bullying (this is something dear to my heart) for some t6 ships. Only to find them all out, I looked at the numbers and it said they'll be 2500 packs of these. Now I know STO does not have that many players who are willing to spend any amount of money on ingame stuff. So who the heck donated $10 many times to get many of these ships just to sell for ingame (FAKE) money.

We come in peace, SHOOT TO KILL!
^this
Flaming, trolling, or DOOM! thread?
They were gone in a few hours to people who wanted the ships for themselves or a friend, and the ship sale raised $54,000 for the charity.

That post includes direct links to the charity.

While true, by the time that sort of thing started to happen the T6 ships were long gone. I also know of some people that don't spend money on the game normally but they sure has heck whipped out their credit card to get in on this. Exclusive mirror designs and Leeta were the driving points for them.
Leeta is actually really good. A bit entertaining that she uses photonic decoy though. I kinda want to get a full set of photonic BOFFs and have them using photonic decoy now...

I got over $110 worth of DLC and a donated $14, i guess i must be a friggin space whale.
Anyway, as mentioned, people can't sell them any more than they can sell the various ships they buy from the C-Store. On top of that, more people play this game and are willing to give it money than you seem to realize.

Okay, so we don't have 2500 players willing to pay 10$. I guess Cryptic will have to live on less than $25k then. For ever and ever. I know that in the business wages sometimes aren't as high as you'd think they would be, but I had no idea that quite a few employees have to do on 25K combined over 5 years...
Thing is...I already have every T6 in the bundle. Mirror Guardian was the only new T6 ship I picked up. So why would I buy twice? Because its a great charity cause, it offered really good value even without the T6 ships (I picked up $35 worth of ships for $10 each time), and I was able to gift out the other bits to my Fleet mates who were unable to partake.
Events like this, when run well and with good backing from Cryptic, can only result in a boon to the company's PR.
And if you think there aren't people who are willing to throw money at either a cause like this, or a game (no matter how tarnished/bugged/etc) that features something they love, well... your logic is sadly flawed. The constant ship winner pop-ups in game are proof of that alone.
