What could STO do for Star Trek's 50th Anniversary?

As some of you may be aware, Star Trek celebrates its 50th anniversary next year. Cryptic may very well have plans for it set in stone by now; but maybe not. Never hurts to toss ideas around anyway. :D

So I got to thinking, 'how about TOS inspired costumes for various ships?' Just off the top of my head, the Patrol Escort would work pretty well in one, so would the Heavy Cruiser. I could see the Saber and Akira maybe working too. I'm sure plenty of others could be made to fit as well.

It would be a nice tribute to Star Trek's beginings I think (plus, there are TOS fans around here; it'd make their 2016 :p ).

What would you guys like to see happen to celebrate that great day?

    I would absolutely love the TOS ship skins. I also know it will not ever happen. Cryptic won't risk going anywhere near the grey zone that is TOS ships at endgame, because CBS veto'd it and they still have full control over the IP. Hence why we don't have a T5 or T6 Connie: it would earn hundreds of thousands of monies for Cryptic, but it would also be against the rules in which they have to operate. And I have a feeling those rules will also apply to T5/6 ships with TOS skins on them.

    What I would like to see?
    - A very good Featured Episode, that is not about the Pew Pew (I think of the Anniversary Episodes "Temporal Ambassador" and "Dust to Dust".
    - An Wrath-of-Khan style bridge pack. Call it the Excelsior bridge pack or anything, but the bridges from that era would rock.
    - Bonus Events of literally everything. Say, in the month leading up to the anniversary, we first get R&D week, followed by Marks week, then Dilithium week and to conclude XP week. With bonusses to double the amounts we usually get. And this time not locked behind a server-wide contribution event, but just set in stone.
    - Discount week in the C-store. Mostly on anything TOS related to be made cheaper for a week (or any period of time Cryptic wants) but the more on discount, the better. Note: does not need to have a Zen purchase bonus in this period.
    - LTS subscription sale (like usually 100 dollars off).
    - Giving the major hubs of each faction (ESD, QFC, NRC) a lot of NPC's that are or are not ingame already, all grouped up in a special meeting area (Club 47, the Klingon Bar, the Balcony), just for the players to interact with.
    - Some kind of Event ship we can win from playing the Featured Episode. NOT grind, but win. Like we won the Ambassador from Temporal Ambassador. Or the Oddysey during the 2nd year anniversary.
    - FE rerun. And this includes that ALL episodes give ALL of their possible rewards, not just the 4 series, but also Dust to Dust rewarding the Kobali outfit


    All of the above is either already planned or should very much be manageable for Cryptic to have ready on the 50th.​​

    Al Rivera said on an interview earlier this year that they really hadn't planned anything for this year's first contact day(indeed, we didn't even get one) Because there were looking to do something special for the 50th with it. What that means, I dunno....

    I just hope someone, at cryptic allows us to "reclaim" exclusive stuff(Crystal shard pet, Chocrane's shotgun, Baby Nanov) Through an April 22n'd event....

    I am sure they already have something special planned and cant help thinking it will involve some one off special week/month long event of some kind maybe involving some special kick azz ship giveaway possibly gold in colour with epic weapons, consoles etc throughout possibly gained through playing some special one off mission that can only be played during the event featuring possibly references to some iconic characters and episodes from the various series and movies and maybe involving some of the stars to do voice overs as reyan01 suggested, possibly already pre recorded by the stars who have already made voice overs at various times in preparation for this event.
    possibly also featuring some mini missions with some awesome ground weapons, gear, pets and such as rewards, naturally all will be account unlock so you only need to use 1 character to make it less of a grind and avoid hassle for the players.
    also maybe a sizable chunk of dilithium thrown in for good measure.
    possibly a sale on everything on the c-store & LTS as rahmkota19 suggested for players who want to spend money.

    so we can do something we all believe in,

     I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

    The next Trek film is set to release on the anniversary, so there will be a lot of Trek hype in the general media. Cryptic will want to do something really attention grabbing to cash in on that. Doing something ordinary would be a waste of an opportunity I think.

    There's so many possibilities that it's almost improbable to know what they could do. Whatever it is, part of me hopes Akira Sulu is involved since he's the only known direct descendent of any TOS character in the game.

    As @Rahmkota19 suggested, I would love a replay of all those old episodes with rewards available.

    That being said, I would love to see on huge mission, or several Mini Missions that allow us to emulate some Of Kirk and crews greatest exploits. Not sure if CBS would go for this, but everything from "Balance of Terror" to "Space Seed" would be great to see here in the game.

    For me anyways, one of the best way to celebrate something, is to emulate it. I hope for at least some mission that gives us at least the feel of having our ship at risk, and overcoming the great odds.

    Now how that would work for the KDF or Rom's , I'm not sure.

    there is no reason they cant use certain elements from the series, indeed we already have the guardian of forever and the crystalline entity in the game.
    so things like alice in wonderland and the white rabbit or Abraham Lincoln, Leonardo Da Vinci, Amelia Earhart and even Frankenstein's Monster plus many other characters, settings and objects are all fair game as far as I can see.

    Agreed - and I would argue that they NEED to do something really attention grabbing - I would imagine that Trek, in general, is going to enjoy significantly more exposure than it has done in recent times, and STO should receive an influx of new players; The Powers That Be need to do something to get their attention and, more importantly, keep it.

    Don't assume anything. From dec 18 everything will be about a galaxy far far away with multiple films per year.

    I want a trouble with tribbles styled episode akin to the episode ds9 did, no shooting, just a good ol fashion time travel episode that involves tribbles...with tommy guns.. :p

    I could see maybe a TOS uniform give away or even maybe a new flash back episode to save the Original Enterprise from the Tholians.

    Since this seems to be a pie-in-the-sky kinda thing...

    I would absolutely love for Cryptic/PWE to open a second server that deals exclusively with the era between ENTERPRISE and TOS/Movies I-VI.
    I'd even buy a Second Life-Time membership for that.

    T6 Redacted and Redacted Refit .... Yeah I know, but one can hope. Lol

    Connie Bridges from the movies. Specially from Star Trek VI, with interior set. Like the Bridge, Ready Room, Room where they ate with the Klingons, Engineering, etc. I would love to have this set. It would look sweet with my Ambassador. I still love roaming my ship and doing things there.

    Well they could create TOS parts for all ships, maybe the Proxima class? Or TOS ships? Yes I know they we'll probably be tier 1 or they could give us the TOS bundle for free, Well just throwing some ideas in there.

    Another idea I had: someone is messing with history by trying to take out the Enterprises (like, all of them... well, all the Trek ones anyway). So, we have a series of time travel missions where we get to fight alongside each Enterprise. The reward being a new era appropriate ship for each one, which we use to go riding to the rescue. The Saladin for TOS for example, maybe the New Orleans for TNG; and brand new era appropriate designs for Ents B and C (I do love a good kitbash B) ).

    I think a mega giveaway of all the TOS costumes, ships etc would be pretty decent.
    Or they should just go mad and give everyone a single T6 ship of their choice for free per account. Something to really draw players in and celebrate. Freebies for everyone!

    Plus a decent FE would do nicely. Maybe even do up some of the more rundown areas of the game world to bring them to ESD standard, eg DS9, First City
