What's wrong with the new Badlands battlezone?

aesicaaesica Member Posts: 736 Arc User
So here I am at each objective, blowing up tons of ships and actively participating in combat, but I keep getting shafted with Tier 1 "rewards" which are a waste of time. How exactly is contribution calculated for each objective? If it's based on "how many things you click/interact with" (which I suspect it is) then that's bad form, as it encourages gimme-gimme behavior rather than cooperating with other players. The Dyson ground battlezone has a similar problem, but only with the command credits aspect.

Is this a bug, or intentional?

Oh, awesome. Glad it wasn't intentional and to top it off, they got on it quickly. Unfortunately, those patch notes mean I can't litter ESD with solar gateways anymore, but I'm okay with that. :D

Well, it's exactly the same as the Dyson battlezone...only without half as much effort put into it and also, it's just dull. I would have rather the battlezone be like the Mirror Event used to be like, because at least that was fun!

    Nah, she is mirror Kurland.

IMO if they're going to be scoring our "participation" and giving variable rewards based on that score, it would only be fair to show us what the score is and what exactly we're supposed to do to earn it.

Well, these are from yesterday's Tribble Patch Notes
We will be bringing down the Tribble server for maintenance to apply a new update: ST.55.20151013a.20.

    General:
    • Badlands Battlezone:
      • Resolved an issue where player ships could get stuck inside the shield of a boss base when the boss base phase began.
      • Decreased the amount of participation required to earn the maximum amount of rewards for each area of the Battlezone.
      • Resolved an issue where Portal Generator Beta could not be captured by players if more than 5 were present.
So there might be still some adjustments ahead that haven't hit the live server yet.

Indeed; every other game with a ranking system, to my knowledge, gives you some ideas as to what the various thresholds are. I can think of no good reason to hide this information.

It's rather funny, every time Leeta shows up with that cut scene, everyone targets her ship and she's outta there 30 seconds later

Yeah it's quite funny that she thinks she's all tough and like but then here in the prime universe we've got so much powercreep and BFAW-kemocite-AOE we just swat her ISS Enterprise like its a gnat.
If I was the terran empire i'd just give up now and go home again!

Quite a few people like using GW and destabilizing resonance beams. Group em all, fire seizure inducing beam, and pew pew away.

Of course all of this won't make an iota of difference if they don't improve the rewards... currently they feel almost scandalous for the effort you have to put in (unless you have a near mindless fawboat that can park and shoot everything that moves)

If you are in the Badlands battlezone and all you are doing is shooting stuff, you are doing it all wrong anyway. There are only four objectives and one semi-objective where you have to shoot anything in there at all. One, is the end of the close the portal points, got to clear the ships at the end before the point will clear. The second is the shield generators, have to shoot the shield generator once you drop the shield. Third is the the places where to have to fight the bases, each base has a little of each of the 3 different capture points plus the base itself. And the last mandatory one is the final battle where you just have to blow stuff up. The one where it is kinda "semi" is is when you feel the need to shoot the science ship during the satellite capture points, but you don't have to shoot the science ships, it just helps.

What is more important than shooting stuff int he Badlands battlezone is actually helping dismantle the capture points. I laugh in a not so funny way at people who cannot figure out that when the chick says "Stay within 3 kilometers of the satellite to shut it down", that she actually means you have to be within 3 kilometers of it to shut it down, I know, right? Who would have thought!

The objectives in there are far more important than blowing stuff up, actually, if you would just complete the tasks and just shoot stuff while doing those tasks without getting distracted from the objectives, it would be really helpful. As things are right now, you have 20% of the people doing the work for 80% of the rest of the people. The largest portion of people being those who are just blowing stuff up thinking they are helping but are in fact not helping at all.

In fact, you are not just not helping you are actually hindering matters just by being there as there would be less ships spawning if you were not there at all.

But hey, I need the marks and the dil, I will do the real work for you, no problem. I can carry you. I just wanted to let you know where you stand is all.

It's the same deal as with the Undine Battlezone, basically - try to split up the group so you can hit as many points at the same time and don't get huge NPC spawns that make the interacts harder.
I figure some people think this way they earn more skill points, but don't you also want to optimize the marks the elite marks gained per hour of play? Of course, some will just be ignorant and think shooting usually helps to things get along. :)

This isn't entirely true, because in a full zone, where everyone is at an objective, not everyone can use/click things. All that really matters is that someone does whatever is needed to advance the objective, but they can't realistically do that if other people aren't killing ships that spawn, drawing fire, etc to keep things under control. You need people to "blow stuff up" just like you need people to "click the things." That's what teamwork is.

Haha, so that's why I was able to play jump through the gateway in Hathon. Someone kept spawning them and for some silly reason I started jumping through them. It was fun but I can see why that would need to be fixed. ;)
