Hit a leveling wall at level 9?

psychopyro80psychopyro80 Member Posts: 33 Arc User
So I just came back after a bit of a break and decided to make another character for geewhiz sake.. I made a Fed engineer. Now I skipped the tutorial, and was going along, doing story quests and at level 9, I can't get the next one till level 11.

What happened? IIRC, you don't gain any extra level from doing the tutorial. So I am trying to figure out how this happened. I made a Rom Fed a couple days ago as well and ended up at 11 fairly quickly and I skipped the tutorial there as well. I don't remember this being an issue the last time I played. I know that Delta Quests have this problem, but seriously just starting out has this problem too?

SB 24 is actually pretty tough at level 9, especially when the group you get teamed with also seems to be flying gimped. Did I miss something?

You will have to do some grinding the rom arc is a little off leveling wise my trick is to shoot everything on the map on each mission i do to get me close then i run Fleet alerts to finish and start doing the arc again.

Replaying missions works to and you can earn some good gear for new toons that way

Fed toons, including Romulans can do system patrols too. KDF have nebula patrols. Both of these are good though Fed patrols are better at variety of missions instead of searching the nebula or expanse trying to find targets.

Actually, you're level 5 when the tutorial ends...old or new one doesn't matter...

You can replay the missions that are part of the extended tutorial, but not the first tutorial.

I went with a few system patrols when last trying to level a FED. There's some surprisingly not-totally-TRIBBLE ones that have you doing more than kill/scan 5. I think the point of the gap is to "encourage" players to investigate what else is out there besides episodic missions.

What has been said, System/Sector Patrols are the way to fill in the gap, takes approximately 3 of the patrols to gain a level, and they are fairly quick, 10-15 minutes each, some less than 5. It would behoove you to purchase some MK II Very Rare weapons and consoles from the exchange on one of your established toons, then mail those items to your new one. The MK II's will actually do just fine until you hit level 30, and you can always craft/buy Improved Upgrades to get that gear up to MK VI (or if you have the funds a Superior Upgrade will get you to MK IX), you will earn enough dilithium from the missions to upgrade your items.

As to Starbase 24, it is actually pretty easy, just remember to head away from the Starbase BEFORE the mission changes to destroying the Negh'Vars, that way you can take on the groups one at a time instead of being in the middle of that disruptor hell.

    Thanks all...

It's not that it was really hard or anything, I was just confused why my Regular Fed toon hit the wall so soon without the director to sector patrols (at level 9), while my Fed Romulan toon (that one hit 54 ish before having to grind it out) was fine. I don't necessarily mind either patrols and/or repeating the past quests, it just seemed odd that one had to over the other.

And yes, my Rom toon got level 5 skipping the tutorial, while my fed only got level 2 (which I found odd).

As for SB 24, I know it's easy once you pass the first ship (I can solo it on my 60). It just really tore up the group of us all in the starter ships.

Same here. Just created a Fed alt today, skipped the tutorial, but it only got it upto level 2. I swear in the past they'd reach level 5.

Depends on whether or not it's a bonus XP event. :)

I slowly churned away Duty Officer assignments and replayed the old missions.

I never encountered this problem before. Is this a new issue? However, I would recommend doing some of the random encounters i.e. Borg Encounters (you temporarily become level 50 while doing these instances) while leveling whenever possible. The only time I've ever skipped Borg Encounters was when I hit past level 50 and running them was practically pointless, but I still run them because why not...

Also, I never skip the tutorial segments, partly for story and partly for refreshing your knowledge of the game. The last time I've skipped a tutorial segment was in ESO, and the resulting character ended up being behind on his skill progression (he basically had n abilities by the time I started the main grind). Long story short, I learned my lesson: you'd be surprised what you miss while playing a tutorial level. You could end up with a level disadvantage...
