Especially since this was done a month ago lol.

I've had a lot of fun playing STO. I was very suprised to to find the F2P model used to be fair and entertaining. Even if a player has paid no money, they can complete all game content, and enjoy the game to the fullest. The game is so entertaining, that you find yourself making new characters, and trying new strategies constantly. That being said, as a business, they must still make money. I believe that for the thousands of hours a person can spend in this game doing new and different content, $30 for a new ship or services is very reasonable. I have purchased some ship modules, a few character respecs and a some other things over the span of almost a year(late 2014-present). So, I say for about $50 and that much time enjoying a product, as a customer I am happy. I can't say this game is right for everyone, and I can't say I have experience with other games Perfect World has to offer, but from my experience with STO, I have been very satisfied. - See more at: http://www.bbb.org/greater-san-francisco/business-reviews/internet-gaming/perfect-world-entertainment-in-redwood-city-ca-375623/customer-reviews#sthash.lTTOZBfp.dpuf

...or simply another space-barbie-fanboy with no interest nor clue on game-mechanics. and if even a dps'er with clue, what's the point regarding pvp?

i was like the same the first few months i started playing. after years of lack i finally got my fix and it felt good... for a few...
"oh the potential", like a shining star to reach. now that line makes me chuckle as development (lol) progresses further.

Even if the player has paid no money they can compete in all game content . This stood out to me. While technically true it cannot be done totally free without literally playing and grinding for months straight all day every day. Especially a player starting when he wrote the review. Also stood out how the bbb reviews were 8 negative to this one positive.

Don't see the problem TBH since not everyone who plays STO etc has bad experiences :smirk:

I suppose it is possible to play this game totally free and still have a good time. But anyone at all that wishes to max something out, complete a game system, or dare i say pvp will be left sadly disappointed. STO hasn't been pwe's number one title for a long time now which is very sad considering how long Star Trek has endured. I have to believe all these pvper's leaving this game has to be the primary cause of it. A good chunk of us where money spending whales. I tend to notice sto dropped out of the top spot right after the pvp population got dangerously low meaning 50 minus players.

hmm... after all i assume the number of pvp'ers rather is an indicator, not a reason. that said, we've never been any noticable nor improtant number on their sheets. not in number nor in money after all. and they never got the point that most probably their pvp-design is one of the outstanding major reasons for that!
this may goes hand in hand with the impression that they seem to be statistically tied to an obviously lacking data-collecting system and seem to be addicted to quantitives.
what, as any somehow experienced sociologist most probably will assure u, is only the half of the truth regarding any social-system, as it leaves most qualitive points on the side. it's just about numbers.
(sure, it always depends on the question one wants to answer, the object to analyse and the current state of research in whole. but since quite some years now those two perspectives (quan.+qual.) get more and more combined in sociologics... at least so they say hehe.
on a sidenote: economical science is a sub-discipline of sociology.)

regarding this the question could be: what could be used for the better to measure the intentions and reasons for ongoing participation, or the drop of the same, of individuals within an open online-gaming-environment? hard numbers without further information (passive), particular statements on certain aspects of the environment (active) from individuals, or a combination of both?
and now plz no one say "but, but.... forums..." lmao :D...
it's late.... sry all for the brain-TRIBBLE and gn8...

Just a heads up, since the company I used to work for got slammed on GlassDoor ages ago, we paid our CS dept to make TRIBBLE reviews to force out the bad ones. It became glaringly obvious when this was done that most of the positive reviews were utterly TRIBBLE (also half of the CS dept was spanish as a first language so you can imagine how the grammar was). One good review amongst 10 = not suspicious. There's lots of people who still enjoy this game, surprisingly. However, I do own a tinfoil plant if you need hats.

The majority of the current population in STO enjoys the game, very true.
That's because the other half of it left :D
