Any thoughts on the Kara (T6 Ha'apax)?

Really curious if the new plasma lance will be as inaccurate as the Gal-X's phaser lance seems to be...

Cryptic seem inconsistent with their "superweapons".

The standard phaser lance is mediocre at best, though the wide lance is considerably better.
The Nicor's fluidic array is pants.
The S'golth's crescent barrage takes 7 seconds to charge up, but I have had hits pre-delta rising of 300k+.

Don't forget the Ar'kif's 'Focused Singularity Beam' which has always been problematic. Things like this are precisely why I'm asking :)

Not if you have the separation console from the Haakona.

Also if you line up a shot under cloak. And it ain't that slow to turn with the +3 turn rate from the 2-piece and the crafted RCS console "special". Plus you can slot Suppression Barrage or use tractor beams to pin the target down. I've been using the Big H with Hyperplasma/DBB/DHC (yes, I know. But it's got max crit severity and I hate where a third beam shoots from on the model :)) anyway, so I prefer to stay nose on and can do so even without the set boost.

Since we have new art models for the separation pets on the Kara (that look pretty good from what I've seen) does this mean Cryptic will surprise us with T6 Ha'fehs and Ha'noms?

    A2D helps.

Or good Engine Power, easily achievable these days with all the Subsystem Power Creep. Especially if you feed Hyper-Impulse Engines with that kind of power.

I had the Haakona from the LOR Pack way back in 2013, so I've been toying around with it. Been a while since I used it.

Well, the Tier 5 versions are supposed to already have access to the new skin now, don't they? So I wouldn't expect anythnig yet.

So far I haven't heard any rumours on any science vessel packs, and I doubt that they'd release a Romulan Science Vessel without also releasing a new Federation and KDF Science Vessel.

I really like the ship. I don't expect it to be some dps monster, but my only romulan (sci, command, intelligence) will surely enjoy it. With the separation + lt.cmd universal, it offers me plenty of choices to complement my team, tanking, dpsing or even some science stuff.

My only grip is that it has 5 eng consoles at fleet level, I would prefer 4 eng / 3 sci, but well, can't have everything.

I can regularly hit with the Lance from trying the T6 Gal-X and T6 Kara. I don't think Cryptic buffed the Lances but it's more to do with the crazy amount of accuracy achieved these days, IMO. Also, the Lance changes like the Gal-X. With the Kara separated, it adopts the cone AOE. If not separated, traditional Lance fire is used.

As for the T6 Kara, it came out exactly as I predicted. The Lt TAC became LtCmdr while still retaining the LtCmdr Universal. Unlike the previous T6 Ar'kif that suffered from a "False Choice" BOFF layout, the T6 Kara retains the flexibility of the T5 Haakona and still get the typical T6 improvements. The Kara lets you go hard into TAC (dual LtCmdr & 1 ENS TAC), or dual ENG (Cmdr & LtCmdr). If you want, you can go dual SCI (Lt and LtCmdr) but you won't have many SCI Consoles to support it. Regardless of what route you choose, you will not be left with a gaping hole in BOFF ability coverage, unlike what the T6 Ar'kif did.

Easily one of the most flexible BOFF layouts in the Warbird lineup.

Unfortunately with the recent retraction of the ship due to the bug, I have some custom editor issues. I can't actually use the Upgrade Material or Romulan Material 4, nor the actually parts of the Kara. Whenever I try to use any of them, on confirming the looks I am asked to "buy" the Kara, which I already own, and is thus offered at 0 Zen/EC/Dil - but it then sees I already own it and doesn't let me get the Kara...

But I can still fly it as Tier 6 ship. It can be made to look pretty good and it seems to fly nicely. So far, so nice.
The Lt.Cmdr Universal really gives a lot more flexibility than the Klingon or Starfleet vessels in this pack. Plus point is that the Commander seat is also on the Universal slot, at least I think that's a plus - you can really pick your single favorite Command POwe r(if you have any at all) and then pick whatever other regular profession you like.

She still handles like other Cruiser-themed Warbirds: Sluggish. But there's ways to get around that, not to mention if you have the Dual Vector Console from the T5 Haakona.

The Dual vector console, helps the Kara gain an extra element to it. I haven't found it terrible or squishy. But haven't found it blowing the doors off for insane dps yet either. I've found it flexible like the D'D it's got flexiblity to do many things well but nothing mind blowing.

I barely play my Feds in Escorts, so I held off getting the Hestia even though the MVAE is my favorite escort. But having purchased the Pilot 9pk, the Hestia is outclassed by the Icarus & Ajax, at least in my book.

That said I am going to try using the Kara as a middle ground between the Yamato & Hestia. 2 parts to choose from, pets, and a lance, and a very flexible Boff layout, should prove interesting.

The Pilot Ships are so good that I think Cryptic kind of painted themselves in a corner. Every Escort is compared to them and is pretty much found wanting. That said, even with such dominating ship stats, they're not all over the place.

I for one hate the FED versions' looks and am still bitter that the KDF variants are raptors instead of BoPs (that would fit the manoeuvrability part far better - raptors were before the slower variant of escorts with less shields and more hull).

And based on what I hear at times, I might not want to fly other escort ships afterwards because of how much better pilot ones are.

I was actually just comparing in terms of Boff seats. Mercury has too much Tactical, Ajax & Icarus have Boff seating that I like. I wasn't even talking about the Pilot maneuver gimmick which is the icing on the cake.

At least a Pilot B'rel and T'Varo have the EBC thing.

Romulans and KDF have smaller ships worth using still, T'Varo, Faeht, Mat'Ha, but Fed Escorts why get the Alita or Hestia when I have the Icarus & Ajax.

Been using the Kara for a few days now, just got the Haakona for the dual vector console. Definately liking this ship.

Kind of an Romulan amalgam of the Galaxy-X, MVAE, and a HEC when seperated. She is suddenly one of my Favorite ships. I am extremely pleasantly surprised.

Opened a MU Ha'apax just for the hull material, just lovely sinister looking.

How does the Pet for the Kara work out? Smart enough to actually deal damage and keep itself from warp core explosions?

The unit that separates? Those are always worthless. If it's alive and nearby, it will try to do Extend Shields on you, which is nice. But separation units like the Haakona's/Kara's Dual Vector, Galaxy Saucer, Odyssey Chevron, Bortasqu' BOP, Prometheus MV units all have trash AI, have a hard time moving to present weapons because they're slow and barely turn, and require lots and lots of babysitting to keep alive.

In short, do not count on them as an asset in combat. I don't even try to heal them. As soon as they're separated, I consider them destroyed.

At no time in the history of this game have separation units ever been useful. They're garbage and a waste of time as a unit. The only benefit is how they change characteristics for the player's ship when activated. Nothing else.

The "garbage AI" they have is, I think, pretty much exactly the same AI regular NPCs. Which means it's pretty much the smartest AI the game has, too. :p

I already had the Haakona from before Delta Rising, so I was eager to use it again in it's T6 format.

I **LOVE** this ship! It's a heavy cruiser absolutely meant for Engineering captains! Aside from the fact that it already hits harder due to having four tac consoles, the synergy between Supplemental Subsystems and EPS Power Transfer cannot be overstated. It turns a (these days) so so captain ability into something truly godly. It's better than OSS, and on a command ship. I can break out of stealth, hit those two buttons + BFAW, and everything around me melts.

As for the plasma lance ... I'm running with disruptors, so I'm not really optimized to use it, but hey, it's a free one shot at a time DPS spike that doesn't require slotting any consoles, so I'm cool with it.

And regarding the separation console, while the AI isn't great as others mention, it still allows me to, every two minutes, offer enemies a different target to strike at while I become more agile and hit harder. And even if it gets reduced to 0, I can still reassemble my ship once the two minute cooldown is up. I really don't see a problem here. At all.

    I only have two gripes:

    - The fleet version requires a Tier 5 Starbase. My fleet is large and organized and still has only a T4. I have to wait to give Cryptic more money in the form of a fleet module. Damnit :disappointed:
    - The Federation equivalent (Yamato) can now use the iconic cruiser Molecular Cohesion Nullifier ... but the romulan and klingon dreadnoughts can't?? Uhm ... why? I have this console on my T6 Double-D. I'd love to use it on this ship too, please.

Join the channel "NoP Public Service" and ask for the appropriate faction starbase tier invite. Provided you have the permissions in your own fleet to buy from the ship stores, you can get an invite from one of the fleets helping out there but the provision is still charged to your fleet. They're very helpful there. And as a sign of support to your original fleet, make sure you help keep the fleet provisions stocked in the projects.
