Set or Ship first?

Which would likely be the better course of action in regards to Lobi/Lockbox ships and related equipment sets (Elachi, Temporal, Hirogen, etc.) - to purchase the equipment set first and have time to get used to it before winning or buying the ship that it ties into or getting the ship first and flying it while saving up for the equipment set?

^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...

IMO improving ones ship over time is a big motivator which would mean getting the ship first. But that's just me.

I would say get the ship and get used to how that handles first. It may be different to how you imagine and you may decide the gear you wanted won't actually fit it.

Just want to make the stock comment: never try to win a ship by opening lock boxes unless you are opening them for the lobi. If you sell keys for EC you can get that ship with 100% success rate. Don't be that person starting another "I spent $200 on lock boxes and didn't get my ship!" thread.

I always recommend getting the ship you like first, and then come up with a build you design around that ship. No point in upgrading 4 science consoles to mkXIV when you end up enjoying a ship that can only use two of them.

Pick the ship first. The reasons are several, but chief among them are these two: The gear you planned might not go so well with that ship, and you might decide that ship is not what you want to fly after all.
