Official Feedback Thread for "The Factory" and "The New Link"

Please use this thread to post your feedback and issues found for our new 2 Cardassian Struggle Arc episodes "The Factory" and "The New Link".

Cardassian Struggle/Dominion Domination Revamp:
  • “The Factory”
    • This is a level 35 episode where Sarish Minna sends the captain to stop the True Way and the Dominion from joining forces.
  • “The New Link”
    • This is a level 35 episode where the captain must stop Laas from deceiving the other Changelings in the link.
  • These episodes, along with “Spoils of War” and “Through the Looking Glass”, replace episodes “Badlands” through “Cage of Fire” in the Cardassian Struggle/Dominion Domination arc.
  • Episodes “Second Wave” through “Boldly They Rode” remain unchanged.
  • Delta Recruit Changes:
    • These changes will not interrupt progress for Delta Recruits who have not completed the Cardassian Arc.
    • The Delta Recruit objective that was placed in “Crack in the Mirror” will now be placed in “Spoils of War”.
    • The Delta Recruit objective that was placed in “The Long Night” will now be placed in “The Factory”.
    • Objectives that require playing the entire arc are now adjusted to not require the episodes which are no longer available.
    • For players who have already finished “Crack in the Mirror” or “The Long Night”, credit for completing the Delta Recruit objectives will already be granted for “Spoils of War” and “The Factory”.
  • This feature is still a work in progress and not completed.

I'll have more detailed feedback later, but I just want to say, the new cavern environment designed for The Factory is incredible! I love this, props to whoever made it. Likewise with The New New Link, to think I figured the old map would probably get reused for that one, haha. Excellent work!

    The Factory
    • My framerate in the Devos System map is noticeably lower than normal.
    • Nice to see repelling used again :)
    • I believe the interaction text for everything in the Ketracel White Facility is "Interact".
    • The consoles to lower the forcefield in the Ketracel White Facility seem oddly placed, especially considering there are two non-interactive consoles at the base of the stairs leading to that forcefield.
    • After beaming up to the Devos System, there's an extraneous "transferred the coordinates we recovered to your helm" in one of Neman's dialogues.

    The New Link
    • There are typoes in Sarish's briefing for this mission: "and then" (should probably be "and that") and "externimated"
    • One of the ships in the Orias III System map is named "Dominion" instead of a ship class.
    • The Heavy Tractor Beam Turret in the Orias III System map can only be hit from certain positions. You seem to need to be in front of it, based on the minimap, in order to actually be able to fire on it. Sometimes it looks like your weapons can hit it from other angles, but they do no damage.
    • The Orias III ground map runs poorly compared to most on my system.
    • The structures on the Orias III ground map have large invisible walls above their railings which prevent you from shooting Jem'Hadar in those structures, or jumping out of them.

General comment: Both missions are VERY short. A bit too short IMHO. And I do not mean more fighter waves coming in. The story is extremely thin, and new players playing through these new four missions will be done with an entire story-arc before they even notice. I know that, at this point, the missions more or less stand as they are. But adding some optional dialogue to the Vorta when he is "freed", further explaining his motives, would already go a long way!

    The Factory:
    1. Either the away team has to abseil along with the player, or is beamed in once he/she reached the bottom. Right now, the team simply pops-up again when the ground is reached (which looks more like a glitch than work as intended).
    2. Make the area beneath the stairs in the first room inaccessible (via invisible walls). As of now, the Jem'Hadar are getting stuck here or are thrown around due to some clipping errors.
    3. In the command room, the force fields are already active when the cutscene plays. According to the dialogue, they should be activated during the sequence.
    4. The elevated computer area of the command room looks very dark and empty and not like a command center at all.
    5. The explosion of the asteroid facility at the very end looks very... underwhelming... The best would be to give the player a short whitescreen (like when a Borg capital ship is destroyed).

    The New Link:
    1. In sector space, the Orias System is shown to have two suns, however within the system map, only one sun is visible (no, it is definitely not hidden behind the planet).
    2. One of the turrets on the orbital station could not be targeted properly, causing some weird firing-glitches.
    3. A Jem'Hadar Attack Fighter simply called "Dominion" and with Dreadnought-HP values hangs out next to the orbital station doing absolutely nothing.
    4. The Link-ooze looks almost like a solid surface. If you find the time, you should definitely think about creating a better, animated surface.
    5. I had to loot the Ketracel White container twice until the mission progressed.
    6. Aside from Laas not being visible in it, the cutscene with him contains several typos in its subtitles.
    7. Upon returning to orbit, all the Jem'Hadar ships pop-up immediately in front of the ship and are all concentrated in a single spot, partially overlapping with each other.

    The Factory,

    1. The text for "Tactical Report" appeared just before the fight with the J'H and was closed by combat meaning I defeated them before the mission objective to came up, breaking the mission and forcing a restart of the map.

    2. "Commander notices player" - if you must tell, rather than show, please please don't use the word "player". Breaks immersion. You could just say "player notices you" or "player notices intruders" or anything but player.

Still experiencing Crashing / STO Locking up during testing of these new missions. Just hope it's fixed before it goes live.

    Episode 3:

Overall, I'm again disappointed. It was content-light and I was done with this mission in under 15 minutes.

With the facility, it was too obvious it was a reuse of the Temporal Ambassador map. You probably could've gotten away with reusing the old assets from the exploration content. But the map should've at least been mirrored and the doors turned into Dominion Doors to not make it not so obvious.

And I find the Vorta's reasoning to betray Laas to be weak. I imagine it's meant to parallel Wayoun 6 in DS9: Treachery, Faith and the Great River, but Wayoun 6 was a defective clone. I didn't get the impression that this Vorta was also a defective clone, so given the canonical Vorta the fanatic loyalism, I just don't see the logic he would betray Laas in order to save the Changlings. So the Vulcan axion of "Needs of the Many" would not apply.

Then the finale with the destruction of the station.... why didn't I just blow it up with a couple of torpedoes? /facepalm/spoiler]

IMHO, the story would've been better if we were sent in to investigate an unknown True Way station, stumble on the Vorta and his Jem'Hadar guards (who are also investigating the station), discover that Laas is working with the True Way (or the mirror universe) that poses a significant threat to both the Alpha Dominion and the Federation, which results in an temporary Alliance to try to warn the Alpha Changlings.

    Episode 4:

Issue: Tractor Beam Turret attackable at limited angles.

Overall, I found Episode 4 to also be very weak with the storytelling. Orias was lightly defended. Should've seen tons of stations, shipyards, and shields protecting the Alpha Changlings.

The Map, I found to be weakly constructed. There should've been an obvious shield protecting the changlings. An obvious perimeter guard. But instead we just follow the path down the mountain and convienently stumble on possible disgrunted Jem'Hadar, where the big boss Lamat'ukan had no presense other than just a strong fighting NPC.

IMHO, redo the map to give the impression the Great Link is highly protected. Because they know they are in hostile space and there is a Federation Starship in orbit, they need to feel like they're on the alert. And there is no reason for us to discover that the Jem'Hadar are disgruntled, because it has no factor in the actual resolution. Have Lamat'ukan stand guard before the Alpha Changlings, ready to give his life to protect them. But our characters wouldn't kill him, because Federation knows he's just doing his job, and KDF would view his actions as honorable.

And have this mesh better with the other episodes. We started off with the True Way interacting with the Mirror Universe and they both have ZERO presense in Episodes 3 and 4. What does the Orb of Possibilties, the Mirror Universe, Laas, the Alpha Dominion have to do with the True Way other than what was mentioned in the old Path to 2409 that they were hired as guards. But nobody who reads those chips know that. Where is these connections? These are more like stand alone missions than a storyline Arc, even if it was reduced to 4 missions. They just don't connect!

That is why I'm giving these episodes an F!

In addition to the issues raised by kagasensei, I'm experiencing extremely low framerates on the ground in "The New Link". This appears to be the same effect that's dragged down framerates in the New Romulus Command Center and on Risa since the launch of Season 10, a problem that still hasn't been resolved for those experiencing it. GPU usage plummets, while one of my CPU's cores is suddenly running full tilt. It can be played, but is generally 10-15 FPS and not very fun to work through at all. Almost anywhere else, and I'm running at a full 60 FPS.

During my first fight with Laas in "The New Link" Neman died in the fight, which made the mission unable to complete because you have to talk to him before beaming out. I had to ensure he lived on the second playthrough in order to complete the mission.

You can see him die here at 1:39.

    Other than things already reported.

    In "The Factory":

In the dialogue before beaming down, I know what Ketracel White is, can we have an option to say so? It's a tiny thing, but I felt daft having to ask my tac officer what it was.

    In "The New Link":

In the initial space segment, some of the turrets are placed awkwardly, I had to lap around the station a few times to find an angle I could attack them from. My hangar shuttles were having the same problem it appeared. Not sure if this is working as intended.

Also one of the ships was strangely just called "Dominion", looked like one of the Scarab looking attack ships.

Overall, once they're finished up these will make a decent replacement for the old stories.

Edit: Forgot to point out, will someone please issue Commander Sarish a proper uniform? :)

Storywise a huge missed opportunity. So we (again) discover the New Link. In the next mission we get driven off DS9, by the "time-stuck" Dominion party, and our next course of action is... helping whiny Bajorans, instead of trying to contact the Alpha Link?! Gosh, my captain must have suffered severe brain damage. He really shouldn't command a ship in his condition. No wonder he lets himself persuade to a spacewalk on DS9, and keeps hearing disturbing voices ("Kurland here...").

    - Devos system map has low frames per second (FPS) compared to other new maps in the game.

    The New Link
    - Orias III system suffers the same as Devos (low FPS).

    The "Factory" - Ground

Could not repel. My character is left hanging on the ledge, holding the rope, but will not repel down to the factory floor.

I beamed out several times to "restart" that part, with the same results. using the scanner to find the repel location does not work. If I walk to the edge, my toon automatically starts the repel, but does not complete and the mission hangs up at that point.

Got the Repel to work.. For some reasons the Arrow keys were not working for the Repel
