They took it out because DPSers were farming it for Fleet Marks. And they said they wont bring it back until they make it where it's "unwinable".
Yeah but remember the mission that it was named after was a no-win scenario that was beaten by kirk and if they make it truly un-winable then no-one will want to play it so i hope that you are wrong in that

Enh... I doubt it's really meant to be impossible just harder. I mean... if it was REALLY meant to be impossible there would be no reward for winning. But as-is you get a lot of fleet marks and a special accolade/Title.
Just change it from 10 waves to endless waves with scaling damage/health/numbers.
It would satisfy the "unwinnable" component and tanks/healers would be useful. I'd prefer that as the "competition" part of sto rather than the meaningless DPS race. (Since PvP is dead)

You forget that Geko actually said this during one of his Priority One Podcast interviews, that he wanted to rework it as truly unwinable. Granted, I too still ponder what his logic is and how players could ever become "Kirk's Protoge" ever again if it really became unwinable.
I think the PHILOSOPHY is wrong here and PERHAPS they just approached it WRONG. They should bring it back and make it difficult to win but not impossible if you have a good team. What I'm suggesting is leaving in the higher fleet mark reward & accolade that every character on an account should strive to obtain; however, upon earning the reward and recieving the accolade title that character can no longer queue for the mission...

I don't see why this wasn't done. Eventually, no matter who you are, you'll get overwhelmed. Seems like the best possible solution.

Except that there's no way to scale enemies up indefinitely.

Seriously though, please bring back the old maps, not just NWS but Terradome too.
And yes, bring back no win. Been over 6 months since it was supposedly taken down to be reworked and improved.

Like Kirk you can ONLY cheat fate once!
