Confused... like that's something new...

Hailing frequencies open,

Ok... what a shocker... I'm confused on something...

So, I've promoted all of my bridge officers to LT via the "career" button at the bottom of their page, (I'm LT Commander).

On each of their individual status pages they all show as LT now. However, only one of them has two space abilities open, one being the LT ability.

If it matters, I'm an Eng officer in an Eng ship, and it's one of two Eng BO that is showing the LT skills. The other Eng BO does not, nor do my Science or Tac BO even though they all show as LT.

I want to not only have my 2nd space ability available for use on each BO, but I especially want it for my Tac BO since I want the LT Beam Overload ability. I'm using an all beam boat, so her Ensign High Yield Torp does nothing for me :(

Also, when can I train in the LT Comm abilities? I'm Lv 12, and only the first column of abilities is open to me... do I have to train X amount in them first before the LC Comm ability column opens up?

Thanks for your time and help.

Take care.

It requires Expertise to rank them up to the next level, since they changed the Boff's Skills and etc.

Forget how much Expertise but it requires it.

Thank you, but I'm still a bit confused.

I had enough expertise to rank them each up... 1100 per, and I still have 8800 left.

They each show as LT on their respective status screens, not Ensign, but on the stations screen only one BO shows two pips and two skills, the others all only show one pip and one skill.

    I'm obviously missing something.

    Thank you.

What ship are you in? Mostly for convenience sake.

Also you get new skills in ESD/Qo'Nos via the Bridge Officer Trainer. And they are automatically @ Level 9. But they require Expertise to add them to your Boffs.

When you say that you only see one boff with two abilities, do you mean when your in space trying to use abilities in your ship? if thats the case then it depends on the ship, not your boffs. For example, the starting ship only has 3 boff seats, and each seat only lets you use Ensign level powers. The Lt.Cmdr lvl ship you have sounds like it has 4 boff seats, all of them only allowing Ensign lvl powers, except for one that lets use use Lt powers. Thats just how it is. A Fleet Admiral Tier 6 ship could have a lay out like: 1 Lt Tactical boff seat, 1 Commander Engineer boff seat, 1 Lt.Cmdr Engineer boff seat, and 1 Lt.Cmdr Science boff seat.

Each seat will have a rank associated with it saying the highest lvl power that can be used. You should still rank up all your boffs though because on the ground they use whatever abilities their rank has unlocked.

Hardly the first time I've seen someone mixed up about this, don't feel bad :)

The skills usable on each station are set by the rank of the station, not the officer using it. If you put a lieutenant in an ensign (single slot) station it'll only be able to use it's ensign ability (conversely, if you put an ensign in a lieutenant or higher station it'll only have it's ensign skill available and the two higher abilities will be blank). You get higher rank bridge stations as you get higher tier ships, although you'll typically have one station at a rank lower than your character and several lesser rank stations even on the "best" ships.

The Captain's skill ranks open up according to how many points you've spent on it (shows you the number required on the skills page at the top of the list for each level). Your actual rank isn't a factor, only the points spent.

    Ah... DING DING DING !!

That's it then, thank you !! I was goin' nuts, LOL.

It's the ship and the slots. I'm in the freebie LT Comm ship... so that's what the issue is... the other Eng BO, along with the Sci and Tac BO stations must be Ensign stations... GOTCHA !!

As for MY skills... I thought it might have to do with spending a minimum in the prior set of skills before the LT Comm skills open up.

Thank you all again for your time, patience, and help.

Time to head back out to space now :)

    Take care.
