New Specialization...

They originally took 3 months give or take between the Command and Pilot...started off strong then it sorta just died...and now all we're getting is 25th century Retrofits of 24th century ships...which is easily causing bloat since there is only so much you can do with boff layouts without them being to similar (Why they added T6 in the first place) Since dual specialization types are only reserved for premium gambling ships...we really could use a new specialization.

One of two types I'd love to see...one centered around Carriers (Since it has been a long time since any race got a true carrier and Romulans don't even have one) I think it would be a good time to make one.

Or one based heavily on Particle Generators would be nice...something that could go nice with Science!

It seems like they have mostly given up on even the c-store and focusing more on gambling ships in the recent and haven't seen a original ship in a while.

We are still missing the commando upgrade, which I'm guessing will be next once season 11 arrives.

There are numerous possibilities : more tiers of Commando, Temporal Officer, Paramedic (like Tom Paris), and so on. Since time travel was a very important part of the plot at the end of the Iconian war, if i had to bet i would say that the next specialization will be Temporal Officer.

I'd be cool with a carrier specialization! Or anything positive in the carrier department, actually...

I would try to shy away from making a spec around partgens, so many things are boosted all to hell by partgens now, it makes other science skills kinda foolish to invest in. If anything perhaps some stuff boosted by the other science skills, like subspace decompiler, sensors, inertial dampers, countermeasures, etc..

Neglected (sci) skills could use something added to the game to make them useful.

I am also disappointed in the lack of new original C-Store ships (or any non-event, non-premium, non-C-Store ships, not even a basic entry level T6 for F2P players... :'( )

I suspect, however, that Cryptic is holding off on adding anything new for the moment so that the Release of S11 (New Dawn) will be more impressive than past season releases, or perhaps it'd just be easier to release all that new stuff together lol.

I'd recommend holding off on the torches and pitchforks until S11 hits the fan, perhaps there'd be something cool for players to purchase (not gamble for) or otherwise invest into. :)

No, S11 will not be more impressive than the other seasons, just the same song all over again, some PvE queues, new ships, new episode(s), one new bugged system(or/and battlezone) and more bugs.

Seriously though, I think that no new specializations until now is good, I cannot imagine grinding 30 spec points every season because of every new specialization being better than the last one.

I like the idea of carrier and science specs, but both seem too niche given the STO player base is mostly Fed Tac captains flying cruisers and escorts.

Well if anything...they should make the other skills more effective...drain skills are all but useless against most NPC's...they have such high resistances and such...they have tons of shields...if you manage to knock a targets power to 0 it usually back up a second later...the stuns do little if anything usually.

Being better than the last? SO you think Command was better than Intel?

Whatever the new spec is, I hope it's good enough to seriously compete with Intel and Pilot as far as space powers go.

Would be nice...or least more usable options than Command at the very least.

Need a specialization called AFK Killer. Lets you kill players that don't help in STFs. :D Additional skill points in it make them take system damages and/or they drop dilithium ore like Sonic the Hedgehog dropped rings when he got hurt! Sonic_the_Hedgehog_SMD_15.png

That was the one I was hoping for. But they released the T6 Heavy Escort Carrier without it, so now I expect it was never planned and will never happened (at least until T7 comes out).

Other than that, I've completely lost interest and don't care what they do with new specializations.

I'm trying to think about the planned/discussed specializations they've announced but haven't released.

Counselor is probably pretty high up the list but is likely a secondary track, more like Commando.

My overall prediction is that we'll see both Counselor and Temporal Investigator before too long and that they may focus on bringing the cooldown reductions of high end builds to the masses.

Counselor might be somewhat of a counter there. About anticipating enemy abilities, buffing, and some limited cooldown functions.

Temporal Investigations is almost certainly going to happen and rewrite the meta-game of cooldown balancing since everything "Temporal" in STO's power system practically involves cooldowns along with dodging/defense/misses and duplicates.

What is all of this talk about T7? lol

Don't believe every rumor you hear...someone mentioned T7 on ESD the other day someone was like *OMG T7 already* or something like that...minute later person was like *I made that up*.

I don't think Cryptic would be so incredibly stupid to move onto T7 any time soon...especially after they just launched the most expensive T6 ship in the game a month ago

T6 was necessary for game progression reasons. They simply ran out of different ships to make. With spcializations now it is highly unlikely they would ever have that problem again.
  • azurianstarazurianstar Member Posts: 6,985 Arc User
I disagree, they could've created Command, Intel and Pilot ships as T5 ships. And Specializations only added greatly to the power creep and acted as "busy work" than adding functionality to the new endgame.

I expect the Counselor spec will just enable a new Marina Sirtis voice pack that adds flavor sounds like "I'm sensing hostility from that Herald ship" and "I don't feel that the Borg cube is willing to negotiate" :)

Won't exactly help with starship BOFF seating, assuming that the Commando BOFF spec will only apply to Ground.

I'm betting we get a Temporal Agent spec and a 25th-century "modern" Temporal Science Vessel 9-pack.
  • ltminnsltminns Member Posts: 12,572 Arc User
Yeah, Temporal sounds right but they will probably also flesh out Commando.

They can introduce a T6 Wells, etc. (either it is from the 31st Century or the Ferengi strip out less of it before they put it into a Lockbox ;)). A redo of the Temporal Destroyer, and remember that Trendy indicated something, something about a Krenim Timeship (Winter ship???). Just don't know what they would put in the C-Store. Would probably be some new designs with Temporal Seating and gimmicky consoles, perhaps with Chroniton laced weapons, upgraded Chroniton Torpedoes or something.

Can't believe ppl are asking for new specs. On my main i have finished only intel, pilot and commando and didn't even touch command yet. 2 alts don't have a single spec tree finished, around 10-15 points in intel. 10 other toons aren't even lvl 60...

I thought the smart thing to do was get only one spec on each character for now till a more productive leveling method comes out. Some of my characters are spec-less and are awaiting new specs to come out so I can dump their spec points into them.

I regard the spec points as a bonus. A spec point arrives when it arrives, period. I'm not going to grind to fill any spec tree. So they can add the number of new spec they want, it's not going to change my play style because the spec X or Y is not finished. On the other hand, if i decide to create a new character, or if i manage to finish one spec tree and don't decide to spend the new spec points immediatly, the addition of a new spec can open new possibilities, whether in terms of roleplay or game mechanisms.

Yep, some of my characters are in the same situation. Especially the Delta recruit, which i'd like to spec in temporal agent if this kind of spec is released.

Having recently finished getting a primary and 2 secondaries for all of my 6 main characters, I have mixed feelings about new specializations. I do want commando to be finished so that my kitty engineer can become ultra mega god on the ground. mega god is insufficient. I also feel like I have finished the game. All equipment is upgraded. Epic? no thanks. Most characters have 20 unspent spec points. So if they introduce a really cool specialization I would be motivated to spend them and try it and if I like it finish it off.

On the other hand I'm also happy to take some downtime then return and enjoy casually the missions that are fun to play. Enjoy the fruits of labor etc...

Aye, I too have wondered about this. I have yet to max a single spec on a single character, though in fairness I haven't seen the need to put more than 22 points into a single tree yet lol.

But the way I see it if we get more specializations it would provide more of a persuasive argument to make leveling specializations easier, kinda like how we got those reputation sponsorship tokens.

More Reps came out, and caused slowdowns in progression, then came the tokens, problem solved. Perhaps the same will happen with specializations... or not, but more variety isn't a bad thing either lol.

I don't want a new specialization for a new spec as much for a new boff seating, boff abilities, and new fancy ships...plus I guess I'm not a completionist like you're aiming for...I'm not done grinding yet but I just use what I use...if I have extra points I'd save them for if/when they do release a new specialization...never know if that would be better for my character then her current ones!

Well, i finished all 4 characters at least 2 months ago so it's about time commando gets its long awaited extension.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
