confused by retro phaser

spy8446spy8446 Member Posts: 585 Arc User
so i was looking at the damage on the weapon, thinking of changing up my weapons loadouts and figured, why not play with the colors a bit by using X types of whatever weapon and make it look cool.
the retro refit phaser did 3.9 damage ........ that cant be right can it?
it only does a little bit of damage or did i read it wrong?

Display issue. Known, but not fixed.

    Phasers work fine.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I believe if you look at the numbers after assigning the weapons to your ship and then going into sector space, it shows the correct figures.
It doesn't show actual numbers while on the ground or at a Starbase.
They've been like that almost since the day they were added to the game.

A lot depends on your skill point distribution, but you can view the global values here:

The 3 dps thing is a display error as mentioned before. Other than that, all weapons of the same type deal the same damage at each level, only procs and modifiers are different. I think the retro phasers have a critical hit chance mod and maybe a damage mod, but as I said they deal the exact same damage as any other mk xii beam array.

Andorian Phasers are still just standard Phasers with a different color scheme. They are only available if you own an Andorian ship.

Phased Bio-Matter and Bio-Molecular Phasers are the two special phaser types. Both of them are greenish in color. Phased Bio-Matter has a chance to deal additional damage, splitting the damage equally among up to 4 targets within 1km of the original target. Bio-Molecular Phasers (along with Bio-Molecular Disruptors) can inflict a debuff on the target that reduces their speed then deals shield-piercing radiation damage at the end of the debuff. Bio-Molecular Phasers maintain the original Phaser debuff as well, so at Very Rare they only have 2 standard weapon mods, while Phased Bio-Matter does not and therefore has 3 standard weapon mods at Very Rare. Bio-Molecular weapons are available from the 8472 Counter Command reputation, Phased Bio-Matter come from the Xindi-Amphibious Lock Box.

There are Fleet versions of the Andorian Phasers, but they require ownership of one or more of the Andorian Escorts before they can actually be purchased. There are quite a few items like this in the game, the items will be visible in the shop but greyed out unless you own a particular ship.

Phased is a blue-green/teal sort of color, while Bio-molecular is more lime. So you can have potentially 5 colors of phasers now.

    standard red-orange
    Andorian, dark blue(like Kazon weapons)
    TOS, blue-white
    phased Bio-Matter, blue-green
    Bio-Molecular, lime green

humm, that does sound like an interesting light show

i have 2 unrelated questions now.

1: do duty officer buffs stack? if i have 3 ground officers that + chance to beam in a 2nd phaser turret, would it stack or just waste space?

2: the jem'hadar ship outside bajor system, is that a mission related ship or what because its just sitting there

    1 yes
2: you'll find out why it's there when you play the Dominion FE series.

Duty Officers do stack, but usually only stacking on their chance to perform an action. For example, the standard Nurse effect is to have a chance to summon a medic NPC to follow you around and heal you when you use a hypospray. Having multiple Nurses equipped increases the chance a medic will be summoned, but you will never get 2 medics.

Some Duty Officer types only allow one to be slotted at a time, so obviously they don't stack.

Turret doffs and security officer doffs have independent chances to trigger, or at least they did last I checked.

another duty officer question, i have one that gives me latinum for every ground unit killed, is he worth having for that and are there other officers that generate resources like that?

Last I checked, Latinum is used exclusively for cosmetic items. If you really enjoy using the ship holographic projectors (makes your ship look like another ship for a limited duration, consumable), then I suppose that duty officer could be
useful. I'm not aware of any other similar duty officers but I haven't closely followed all the various possible effects.
Turret doffs and security officer doffs have independent chances to trigger, or at least they did last I checked.

The Armory Officer that beams in an additional phaser turret is a limit-1 equip, so there's no possibility of it stacking, but the Very Rare variant summons 2 extra turrets instead of 1. However I do believe you are correct about the Security Officer, as one of my Fleet members highly enjoys his "Redshirt Army" when it procs multiple times. But I believe that's one of the few exceptions. Shield Distribution Officers used to have a chance for multiple procs as well, but were changed to only allow 1 per attempt, and I believe that's how most stacking duty officers work.

Oh I was thinking of the Drone Summon or Mortar maybe. I should double check that.

But yeah, if you want GPL then feel free to use the guy to give you GPL, but... uses for GPL are limited.

There are two other uses for Latinum, besides getting cosmetic items.

    - Some Trade DOFF missions require it, especially the "Special Deal on Entertainment Provisions" (which award rarity appropriate Orion or Vulcan Holographic Entertainer DOFFs on a critical success).

    - Buying a Subspace Party Nullifier also requires Latinum.

However nullifiers emit low-levels of anti-fun radiation and may cause you to act like grumpy cat. :p

My favorite use for latinum is missions to have my doffs buy commodities with it.

You're right, I forgot about those. There used to be a duty officer mission where you could use Latinum to acquire Contraband, but I'm not sure if that one is still around. Pretty sure the Contraband->Lantinum one is still around, but why would you spend Contraband to get Latinum when you could use it to get Dilithium?

oh you can still buy contraband with latinum, but it's not a commonly available mission.
