old player coming back!

Hi, I had started playing STO way back.. had a 14 lvl toon. Now i want to restart this game but i have totally forgotten the way this game works so am planning to start from scratch. I intend to go gold member now. Am hopefully looking for a fleet/guild to maybe help me work my way back into this game if possible! I love to play these games as a team solo play is not my style. So if anyone can help me out that would be great!! i plan to go federation! So which race should i make?? also is lifetime member better? or should i spend 300$ buying Zen cause that gives you about 34k Zen!! Looking forward to your valuable feedback!

Thanks!

Depends on how far back you mean. The game is way different than it was two years ago and in some respects even just one year ago.

LTS at this point in the game's lifetime, hmm I'm not sure. Wait for a sale if you want it.

Make a character in all three factions. Make at least one alien because they're a lot of fun to customize.

There were alot of big changes in the last two years alone so starting from scratch is a wise idea.
But whatever you do, do NOT blindly throw several hundreds of dollars at them. If you reach the endgame (~50+) and want to buy some goodies and think the amount you need to spend is justified and well spent then sure, go ahead.
But if you don't know anything of what's currently going on because you haven't touched the game in a long time then please don't.

    Zen & Subscriptions
If you only got to level 14, you haven't seen much of the game. It's definitely too early to spend any money on it - you don't have to, and you might regret any purchases you make. This also include a subscription.
If you consider a subscription, I think lifetime is preferable to a regular one, but you must be sure you're going to play the game for a while - and you should wait for the next subscription sale (happens once or twice per year, I think.)

    Changes
One of the most signfiicant changes you might notice is the new Sector Space- there are now only 3 sector space maps, one for the Alpha, one for the Beta and one for the Delta Quadrant. That means a lot less loading screens and the world feels bigger.
Another change is how the bridge officer training system works. Bridge Officers can now learn new skills without "forgetting" the old ones, and you pick basically an active suite of abilities to use for them.

Most of the other changes you probably wouldn't realize as such, since you never got that far. In the storyline, we discover Dyson Spheres, find a way to use them to get to the Delta Quadrant, and we eventually end up with a war against the Iconians. But you're going to see this unfold as you play.

    Other
Race has not much influence on your character, so pick what you like. The biggest flexbility you have with Aliens, of course.

You should not limit yourself to a Federation character - the initial storyline for the Klingons and Romulans is different and you miss part of the game's story if you don't play them. Eventually, the story-lines converge and you will end up playing the same missions.
For starters, a Federation character might be easier to get into, though I think the early Romulan storyline has some of the best story missions.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

Welcome back. I agree with starting from the beginning; the game as changed so much, you might as well experience it all fresh. As far as subscribing, I would recommend subbing while you level, because you get some nice perks. But you get to keep those perks after you cancel your sub, so once you hit max level I would cancel and then just earn dilithium to convert to zen to get anything I want going forward.
