It is without doubt that DPS builds have taken the spotlight at the moment.
However that is only one approach. There's faction specific gear build, there is thematic build and so forth.
Now then, what is your preferred build?
I have some DPS builds, Faction builds (Romulan space set and weapons), Torpedo build and exotic builds.
What is your favorite?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Lackluster DPS thanks to all the gimmicks & universal consoles but a whole lot of fun. And quite the amount of pets, it gets really crowded on a map if i use the lower half, the 2 support crafts and the hangar pets at once. Too bad I didn't open it on my sci for a complete clusterfuck with photonic fleet added.
Personally I like Cryptic using a new named type for Romulan weapons since the slow never did go too in depth with them and half the time their tech just seemed pale comparison to Klingon tech even though lore wise it's more the other way around.
Switch my main fed sci's energy weaps to polaron, using the delta rep polaron and some vaadwaur polaron. I just started a drain build with my back up sci. My fed eng is going all tank, all the time.
My main KDF, after some time in a beamboat Mogh, I have switched to a BoP (HoH'SuS) disruptor cannon build.
No more antiproton DPS builds for me, been there, done that.
Pretty much there at the moment.
Currently flying a Tholian inspired Tholian Orb Weaver with tholian space set and tholian weapon set + some tricobolt (cluster). It may not be number one DPS build, but it can disable and then wreck large numbers of NPC.
Even had some success in Kerrat.
I won't argue about the differences. But unless you can tell me that Romulans never use disruptors, my point remains.
Even though most of these characters will be fitted per faction as a primary, I've got a wild card ship or two for each, where equipment from across the galaxy is quilted in for maximum effect, just to keep things interesting for me. With the advent of ship traits on our captains, some skills now carry over irrespective of the platform, so this saves considerably in hardware duplication.

I ended up with this hodge podge build...I'm running the Tholian shield, 2 piece (engine and deflector) counter command, 2 piece undine (core and console), & 2 piece Borg (console and cutting beam). From missions, I'm running the three piece resonant set (torp, DHC, console). I also have the Neutronic Torp.
From the Lobi store I'm using the rule 62 console, bio-gel console and Tachiokinetic (sp?) console. From the fleet holdings I'm using disruptor vulnerability locaters. I am also using the three console set from the Pilot ships (just cause they're fun...hehe). I also have the Leech.
To round out the build I have a crafted disruptor DBB (critdx2 pen dmg), a crafted disruptor DHC (crdx3 pen) and an Omni directional disruptor array (don't remember the mods). Everything on the build is upgraded to UR that can be.
I'm using TS I and III, APB I, APO III, FAW I, CSV II and that resonant beam power (can't remember the name). I've also since switched from the Tac Pilot ship to the Sci Pilot ship so I can use GW I in conjuction with Spatial Sinkhole console (nice damage synergy).
May be a hodge podge, but gawd is it a lot of fun. This has been my build project since the Delta Recruit event, she started as a DR and quickly became my main just because of the sheer fun of the build. May not be the highest DPS build I could do, but it is very fun

I've just finished building a tac ferengi; flying a d'kora with the lobi set. Now am grinding diplomacy to get a nausicaan bodyguard and waiting for the winter event to unlock the event store on them as they were post-Risa. Now i'm turning my fed rom sci character into a full-on tal shiar operative; nanite disruptor weapons, borg bridge officers and saving up for the adapted ships. All of this is regardless of optimum or maximum dps but to make each one unique.
I also have an Orion tac kdf flying the risian cruiser, but they've joined my dil farm alts now.
More or less I build for feel or for lolz, sometimes both. Expect for pvp, I take that somewhat more seriously.

The build I have been using is all Disruptor based and most stuff is VR except where noted - all weapons and consoles are Mk XIV, all ship equipment is MK XII
2 Elachi Crescent DHC, Resonant DHC, Wide Arc DHC UR, Resonant Transphasic Torpedo Launcher
Heavy Bio-molecular Turret, KCB, Bio-molecular Turrent
RMC, Subspace Field Modulator, Temporal Negotiator
Enhanced Neutronium UR, Polaric Modulator, Assimilated
Tachyokinetic R, Bioneural Infusion R, Plasmonic
Timeline Analysis Sensor Grid, 3 Disruptor Consoles, Harmonic Resonance Relay UR
I use CRF III, TS III, and Kemocite-laced II, three Pilot skills and GW I
It is a thing of beauty throwing a GW on Tholians, Borgs, or into the Crystal Entity, then a spread of those Transphasics and Kemocite, with all cannons blazing CRF. A nice little light show indeed and fun.

My forum single-issue of rage: Make the Proton Experimental Weapon go for subsystem targetting!
I find that for most of my alt's builds, I tend to do the same thing. I was a PvP healer back in our fleet's PvP heyday and I tend to make my builds more utilitarian than straight out DPS because of this. The build I was talking about in my earlier post was the first I built thinking more damage and less utilitarian. I realize it still needs a lot of work, but it's fun...hehe
@lucho80 That sig pic is awesome!!!! It took me a minute of looking at it to realize it's full potential (cause I was trying to figure out what episode of TOS it was from...then I read the words...), but once I realized what it actually was, I was laughing for a good 5 mins....LOLOLOL!!!!

Cruisers tend to be 6 beam array setups, generally with at least one torpedo front and back.
Most of my builds have more defense mixed in then the 'optimal' DPS setup, I just don't like playing the 'glass cannon' type ship. I do tailor my builds to be effective, I build to do damage and to be useful in group/STF play, but I don't usually go full on DPS. I don't parse my builds anymore because I found that when I did, I became obsessed with getting just 1k more DPS until I eventually was dumping everything I had resource wise into chasing every last percent.
I still don't use Torpedoes, but I'm thinking I'm going to do a few builds that feature them just for a more Star Trek feel. It does seem weird playing a Federation Starship that has no Torpedoes of any kind. I'm going to start mixing in more Canon Star Trek Builds for story missions and things of that nature. I'll just save a more DPS heavy load out for when I do STF play. I have had the desire recently to get my ship to feel more like a true Starfleet ship.
One of my builds is an Ambassador based upon "The Hakaishin Dreadnought". It's remarkably effective.
The Romulans run on plasma, but each a bit different one: Romulan plasma, corrosive plasma, and plasmatic biomatter. And different rep sets.
