yes, that's right, I said Boff, not Doff.
this is actually a continuation of a different thread i started suggesting boffs popping in doff packs, which seemed to degenerate into a whiney rant that those capitalist overlords just want your money. (Of course they do, it's a business silly.)
so i wanted to restart the thread with a real focus on the boffs themselves.
here's what i'm thinking--a pack, like the doff packs, that yeilds boffs with strange and unusual traits and skills. this would give newer players access to things like the veteran warfare space trait, the xindi skills which have become so expensive on the exchange that the majority of players don't have access to them, and the ico missioin yeilded skills unavailable to lower level characters that missed the weekly event introducing the skills.
boff packs, should have at least one special boff in them, and maybe a few qualification or training manuals that don't pop on regularly generated boffs.
a few suggestions were made in the other thread about specific races that could be in the packs--but with all the races i'm seeing in the doff packs it occurs to me that there's quite a few doffs out there not represented on the bridge. Maybe we could see boffs that represent every race available as a doff?
what do you guys think? randomly generated, or should the overlords set some poor altaholic dev to work knocking out a few hundred carefully crafted unique and thematic boffs to fill out your bridge crew and away team?
what kind of traits would you like to see on these types of boffs? (i'd like some new space traits myself...)

2: Any officer packs had better NOT be a randomly-generated grab bag. I refuse to waste Zen on a slot machine. For the same reason that you should NEVER open lockboxes, you should NEVER open officer packs. If you open 100 lockboxes, I PROMISE you WILL get ~80 duty officer packs, and ~20 dilithium mining claims. And when you open those said 20 duty officer packs, you will only get 5-6 purple officers, and all of them will be worth1-2 million EC, MAXIMUM. You wanted to get a lockbox ship? Just sell the keys for EC, and simply buy the ship on the Exchange.

Efficient, Leadership, Pirate, and those "cheesy" Romulan-exclusive ones?
Now, I know Efficient is on "both sides" of the Red/Blue divide, Saurians and Letheans.
Leadership is more a "human" thing, and Pirate is Nausicaan.
Then they went and made those "Lockbox BOffs" with Efficient Vulcans, Leadership knowing Klingons, and maybe a couple of others...
Until they introduce more space traits, is there really any more reason to give more races more traits?

although i really would like to see some of the other racial space traits i've mentioned in other threads.
one boff i'd like to see for my pirate away team is a hazari--their look would really fill out the pirate team (currently naus, ferengi, orion and a reman borg tac...would switch out the reman for a hazari tac in a sec.)
other boffs i'd like to see are the off faction not normally available via the dip/maurauding ladder--such as the rigellian and letheans.
i'm definitely on board with that--suggested something similar a dogs age ago. now that boffs in your crew can't be passed off it might be more amenable to the top brass than it was back then.
still, i do want to see more races with specialty traits and skills. if you look at the randomly generated boffs on the exchange, it seems that 90+% of em have the same skills, which is one reason they're so cheap. There is a little variation in traits, but not much. Oddly, the vulcans, with no space traits, tend to run higher than those boffs with space traits.
but there's still a lot of races out there i'd like to get a hold of. another example: kdf can get trill doffs, and they can play a trill, but there's no kdf trill boffs....
