Ooooh, I totally overlooked that "five-year Iconian War story arc" bit! Does that mean, I wonder, that they're counting the entirety of STO up to now as part of the Iconian War story arc, or does it mean that the Iconian War season is going to be considered to have lasted five years? And if the latter, that means we'll finally catch up to the in-game stardate? Make it so!

I'm thinking from the start of the action in STO, as in 2010, 'til now.

...Less than a dozen episodes... less than ten episodes... the big, bad, Undine-Manipulating, Romulus-destroying, Dyson Sphere-controlling, Gateway network-owning, took the whole galaxy just to drive them away 200,000 years ago "Demons of Air and Darkness"... and we 'beat' them in less than ten episodes after they show their face?

It took us longer to deal with the Undine (from pre-game to "Mindscape")! With Hakeev! With the Vaadwaur! The Iconians were supposed to be the big-bads with five years of build up and they go down this quick? I don't know if you can make 'New Dawn' good enough to make up for this anti-climax...

    This.

Don't get me wrong. The Armada stuff and the Admiralty system all sound great. But not so great that we had to wipe out the Iconians in one season. So, this year's Mary Sue/Gary Stu Award looks like it may be STO for premature climaxing.

If the Admiralty system is more like a minigame where you actually have some control over the outcome and less like the doff system where it's all a diceroll and you have to wait hours or days to see what happened, yeah, good. If it's using your garaged ships as doffs? No, bad.

And I have to echo what a lot of people have said about the Iconians getting taken down so quickly. There should have been more to it than just a handful of episodes, A LOT more to it. The Iconians have been built up to through most of the storyline, but we end them this quickly? It just feels like there was a lot of missed potential for story development.

Of course, if season 11 also has the return of some kind of free exploration system that's better than the old random missions in clusters it might make up for it, because exploration and new discoveries is what ST is all about.

STO Iconians = Green Lantern movie fiasco. All hype and no show. This Iconian War should be renamed. The Iconian Fiasco.

If only the gameplay during the Iconian War was as engaging as in that trailer. I wish I could play that version of STO.

What? Why are we rushing to finish the Iconian War? Is T'Ket sueing for lost of limb?

Because after dragging out this plot for the past five years, it's about freaking time the writers actually gave us something new.

Nice trailer but honestly the war sucked and nothing compared to Cryptic Hype. Without further details I doubt exploration will be exploring new worlds but more exploring content based off old content.

I, too, am taking an "I'll believe it when I see it" approach to the promise of exploration.

Personally, though, I'm excited about this. It looks like S11 is finally going to be picking up some long-abandoned story threads, and I think that's great. (The trailer has Tholians, which makes me wonder if we'll finally find out what their deal has been in STO.)

I'm also really looking forward to the Admiralty system. I know we don't know much about it, but just the concept of it is neat. And it'll be nice to finally put my zillions of old ships to practical use again, lol.

Good, the Iconian Fiasco was pure garbage. One of the worst story lines I ever done.

All I can say is I really hope that "New Dawn" is an apology season. STO's Highlander 3 to Highlander 2, if you will.

A understatement. It's was the worst garbage ever! I looked at it as missed opportunity to open whole new worlds and new allies. The worst part is teaming with the Krenims to produce a weapon that can cause massive genocide to a whole civilization and one Klingon Admiral whatever incompetence.

Let me say and loss the sword of Kahless again.

The Iconian War was about on par with the series finale of Enterprise. If someone thinks that's an insult or a compliment, my reply is "Yes."

not a single mention or even a single nod towards Romulans or KDF, Cryptic is a douche

Maybe that's the Federation trailer for S11. They might be coming out with a Klingon perspective of S11 and a Romulan perspective of S11 later.

Not that I'm going to place a bet on that scenario or anything, just that it's possible.

What really upsets me about this new direction is that the Iconians were made up to be the BIG BAD GUY of star trek; similar to the shadows of Babylon 5, and the implication at the end of Broken Circle was that the iconians are done playing games with us and now the real war begins. Cryptic obviously couldn't find a way around that issue, so instead of giving us the apocalyptic, mind-destroying, soul-crushing war that was promised, they just hand-waived the bloody conflict away off screen saying "good guys win, bad guys lose, now back to the grind you worthless worms."

    This is just plain shameful.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but has anyone played NW's mini game on their gateway where you have to "choose carefully which companions go on which quest?" Yeah, this Admiralty system is going to be pretty much that.

Hasn't effected my hype for Knights of the Fallen Empire.

Alright, let's start from the beginning of the trailer then.

When did we save ESD from the Iconian Heralds? Last I checked the Undine were the ones to do that, and that was before the Iconian War (depending on when you want to count when the war started).

How many worlds did we end up seeing gone in-game? Only the ones in the FE's. We fought back? When? Every FE has us showing up conveniently when the battles are over, or we're forced to leave when the battle just starts to get interesting and everything is just handled off-screen, or in the Tales of the War blogs (which, while fun and nice to read, isn't portrayed in-game).

Qo'noS is nowhere to be seen in the trailer. No Brotherhood of the Sword. No Gateway to Gre'thor. No Herald Sphere. The only 'war' to speak of that isn't in the FE's.

Absolutely everything in that trailer that Leeta (I'm assuming that's Chase Masterson narrating) spoke about simply did not happen in game. Ever (at least up until this point). Maybe all of this awesome stuff she's talking about will show up sometime between now and Season 11, but again... not placing any gambles on that.

Addendum: And what "hard choices" did we make? From the player's perspective everything is out of your hands. The choices are made with or without your contribution and completely outside your control. The Iconian War in the featured episodes is more like being in the sidecar of a motorcycle. You're really just along for the ride.

I'm pretty excited for this. I may have to jump back into the game and kill me some Tholians now. I was very disappointed that they seemed to disappear after the Iconians showed up, but it's nice to see we'll be picking up where we left off once the Iconians get kicked to the curb. I'm still hoping Iconians don't disappear themselves though. Let's give them their homeworld back and establish an Iconian Neutral Zone. They might not be the big bad enemy anymore but at least they could return from time to time for whatever reason.

I still think they should of used "Gateway to Grethor" and "Breaking the Sword" as a small non-main war plot ... just a little mission between "House Pegh" and "Time in a bottle."

Start it off with "Gateway of Grethor" pew pew pew.. get to Qu'Nos ... escort the carriers .. pew pew pew ... then we beam down ... do "Brotherhood of the sword." and then of course we'll need T'Ket... Have her pop in with the Sword of Kahless... watch her Herald die ... then destroy the sword infront of us to annoy some Klingons.

Boom... nice little mission.. then some cheesey dialog about how someone assumes the Heralds are attacking Qu'nos because Clueless cut off T'Ket's arm.

    This is what I picture.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7N7EZ79mvM

So, allowing doing PVE to call our own ships for support. Giving them a little AI so they can feel like part of a crew or even in PVE allow friends to take command of one of our ships.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrizm2gnQBo

How about us fighting with our boffs to take command of our ships?

Second star to the right, open outer sectors with a much better genesis system. As systems are explored it can be owned by Klingons, Federations, or Romulans. Even allow us to fight Iconians, Vaduaar, or whoever in the process and new races.

This is what I would call a new season. Iconian War. lol. What war again?

That gave me a massive laugh, so thank you for that :)

I have to say just watching the trailer got me really excited. I love the idea of being able to use our other ships in reserve. I'm not gonna say anything bad and stay totally positive for a change :)

I even loved the new logo and agreed it looked awesome.

Nice to get back to exploration and discovery.

Nice to finish watching that trailer and be left with a feeling of light hopefulness at the end. It reminded me of some of that positive future stuff Star Trek was meant to be all about that we haven't seen in Trek for a long time.

That trailer was really sad. Not because of the Iconian War, but because Cryptic continues to peddle it as "epic."

There was nothing epic about the war. This was a self contained story that had no impact on the rest of the game. Nothing was lost. Nothing was devastated. Nothing has really changed. Nothing. I've essentially resorted to head-canon to fill in the lack of epicness and severity in the conflict since Cryptic failed to deliver.

That being said, I do look forward to new content and systems, and more gradual improvements like addressing server load issues to make the game more stable and fun to play again.

Outside of the Breen, Feklri, True Way/Lost Dominion, Borg, Mirror Universe, which were aside from the Feklri, more brief battles then full scale wars, there has only been one true war.

Against the Iconians via Proxies, Vaduuwar, Elachi, Solanae, Tal Shiar, Heralds, Undine, Gorn Seperatists, the Voth (sort of), even the Kazon who sided with the Vaduuwar. Even in a way the Federation and KDF thanks to the Undine.

The Iconians almost always fight by Proxy, so its not all of a sudden the Iconian War, its always been the Iconian War, they've been the puppet masters from day one in this game, heck they were the puppet masters behind the puppet masters.

Personally I kind of hope before all is said and done the Undine take they're revenge on the Iconians for using them as pawns.
