with Season 10, the Enemy Signal Contact was taken away and was replaced with Deep Space Encounter.
i have yet to have been able to even enter into one of these Deep Space Encounters, and since currently you no longer have Enemy Signal Contacts, it is now almost impossible to grind for new equipment and in-game currency, and i have stopped playing this game because of that.

my question is, will you bring the Enemy Signal Contacts back so that people can have a way of earning gear and in-game currency easier without having to repeat the same episode 7-10 times in a row?

I doubt they would do anything like that kakacarrotcake that would take away from thier forced grinds they seem to be keen on making the players do.

Idk kakacarmenelektra but im about to uninstall both this and neverwinter idk why but just dealing with cryptic makes me wanna take a bath they are more slimier then a honest ferengi businessman.

I would like to see the Borg become a legitimate threat.

The Borg, and the Undine, were thoroughly emasculated during the Voyager run, can't change everyone's favorite punching bag now.

Changing channels...a new Doff system with ships...meh.

Tell us what new T6 ship you will introduce that will be the ONLY way we can use our existing ships we have i doubt highly its as clear cut as your advertising so cut to the damn chase and tell us what and how much already stop sugar coating it.

Huh... Why do ALL of those Archive posters have 5,050,278 post associated with ALL those accounts? :/

Because "Archived Post" is a single account, therefore all the posts count towards that one account. However, if you scroll down in the thread you will eventually see someone quote the OP, and you will see the name of the person who posted it.

Get rid of all ships Lower that Tier 5 in the C-Store and make the available for free. You do not stay at Lt-Capt long enough anyway. Make all the lower tier ships upgradeable to T-5U with a ship upgrade module. All T-5 ships that are bundles get free T-5U upgrade if you buy the bundle (or just convert them to T-6 like the Vet ship seriously the Oddy is T-5?)

...Less than a dozen episodes... less than ten episodes... the big, bad, Undine-Manipulating, Romulus-destroying, Dyson Sphere-controlling, Gateway network-owning, took the whole galaxy just to drive them away 200,000 years ago "Demons of Air and Darkness"... and we 'beat' them in less than ten episodes after they show their face?

It took us longer to deal with the Undine (from pre-game to "Mindscape")! With Hakeev! With the Vaadwaur! The Iconians were supposed to be the big-bads with five years of build up and they go down this quick? I don't know if you can make 'New Dawn' good enough to make up for this anti-climax...

I'm hoping we get at least 2 or 3 more episodes in the current arc, or else it will be a rather disappointing arc.

I'm also hoping that the incompetent, narcissistic, sociopathic, condescending halfwit that is Sela has nothing to do with the resolution of the arc, but that instead, I get to finally shoot her in the face soon. She is an escaped prisoner, after all, accused (and guilty) of crimes against peace, crimes against Romulanity, crimes against Remanity, failure to discharge command responsibility, and a host of other crimes.

At least two, especially since the S11 teaser says it's a 5 year long war, and we are like a few months into it at this point.

and yes, getting to finally rid ourselves of Sela would be fantastic, especially if we get to pull the trigger.

Ooooh, I totally overlooked that "five-year Iconian War story arc" bit! Does that mean, I wonder, that they're counting the entirety of STO up to now as part of the Iconian War story arc, or does it mean that the Iconian War season is going to be considered to have lasted five years? And if the latter, that means we'll finally catch up to the in-game stardate? Make it so!

So ... the Iconian Invasion is over, but now we're going to get invaded by the Mirror Universe? YES!!!!

    Or we're invading them.

Either way I just want some answers on how the Terran Empire came back into power and gained enough resources to launch incursions into our own universe in just under 40 years.

Plot twist, they were uplifted by the Mirror Iconians the same way the Vaadwaur were uplifted by our universe's Iconians...

As much as I have despised the whole Iconian War, I am in total agreement here. The Iconians were to be the end-all-be-all enemies of every other living being in the known galaxy, subjugate or destroy, with 200 millennia worth of evolution and technological advancements on their side. We've been losing the war so far. The timeframe for our "ultimate weapon" is too far out to implement even a working prototype. And, to quote Hudson...
At this point, how can it possibly be over with anything less than an Iconian victory? The last part of the storyline will have to be the ultimate Hail Mary play ever if we are to legitimately survive (and remember, we got lucky during the Dominion War).

This whole Iconian war seems rushed and totally pointless.
I don't know what is the bigger failure, waiting 5 years for a war to come or the war coming after 5 years and doesn't feel anything like the 5 years that passed made it seem.

I am incredibly excited for new story content as I always wanted to get out there in the Star Trek universe and explore strange new worlds! I chose to fly the Odyessy for this reason as well. Some of my favorite parts of the game were the more exploratory types of things like exploring New Romulus, the Solonae Dyson Sphere, and rediscovering the Delta Quadrant. I loved the 5 year Iconian war arc and the actual war story itself has exceded my expectations. There are however a few things that I would like to point out storywise that must happen before the end of the war and things that must happen afterward.

Before the end of the war:

The Krenim superweapon obviously needs to be scrapped or used with minimal damage to the timeline. Personally, I would like to see our toons destroy the weapon, possibly in front of the Iconians themselves as a sort of resolution to the war. The Iconians seeing our toon save them from destruction deside to withdraw their forces.... but thats just one guy's idea of how to end this thing.

Sela and her Dominion reenforcements must make an appearance. I really hate DS9.... I mean I REALLY hate it. But I liked the direction the STO team took wiht the Dominion and we know that Sela has been trying to get them into the main engagement in the Beta Quadrant. However, her last message seemed to hint that the Heralds have found her in the Gama Quadrant and the Dominion may have a rough time of getting into the fight.

Possibly Undine reenforcements. The Undine did mention something about the many being strong enough to resist the Iconians. Whether they decide to bring their overwhelming might into play to fight the Iconians or not isn't clear. They might just stay in their relm which is just fine anyway. We don't mess with them, they don't mess with us.

WHO IS THE OTHER?? Now I have had a couple of theories about who the other could be. The T'kon Empire, Hur'Q, Fekir'i, all have a remarkable amount of similarities to the Iconians. Any of these races could be considered "The Other". Whoever or whatever it is its bound to show up. Possibly after the Dominion counterattack pushes the Heralds back to the sphere.

    After the war:

What is the current state of the Delta Quadrant? How are the Vaadwaur doing under Eldex's leadership and if the Iconians are destroyed or withdraw will the Vaadwaur Supremacy colapse again? The Borg have suffered massive setbacks and are faceing what could be extinction. The Voth are completely MIA. How is the new Delta Alliance doing?

The Hur'Q/Fekir'i mystery is still a thing. The Klingons have yet to discover who is truely behind the Fekir'i invasion of their space. Despite similarities to the Iconians they seem to be two completely seperate entities. Hur'Q technology was found within Fekir's corpse. Are the Hur'Q still alive and if so what are their plans for the Empire.

The Sword of Kahless lies with The Whole. If the Hur'Q are The Other do the Iconians plan on returning the sword to the Hur'Q? Where is that thing going to end up?

What happens to the servitor races such as the Vaadwaur, Solonae, Elachi, and Heralds after the war ends.

Princp Khan is still at large. Taris was not the only one to escape that prision if you'll recal. Princp Khan, leader of the Children of Khan, is still out there..... somewhere..... If I had a say he would be the next major enemy after the Iconian War ends.
You are indeed worthy of your name, these are good questions.

I've always liked the story in STO, the writing team's work is solid. I would have an even higher level of respect if all those little throwaway details they've sprinkled become plot points to follow up on after the New Dawn

Has there been a war because it doesnt seem like one.
Well I consider that the aftermath of Broken Circle has been pretty much what it looks like everywhere we haven't been. That said, a reworking of ALL the zones you can revisit, like New Romulus that show a post war devastation and next season rebuilding, would be pretty good. Something that shows that the maps have been changed, though it would probably be pretty work intensive on the environment team.

    From the announcement:
Plan carefully which ships are sent on which assignment in order to meet their requirements and offset various hazards, in an effort to yield great rewards across any of three separate campaigns.

    Wait.

Does this mean everyone has access to three different campaigns to choose from or that you guys made separate Federation, Klingon, and Romulan campaigns?

Oh let me dream that it could be true.

On the subject of the Borg, I don't really want to see them restored to their apocalyptic threat level for a couple of reasons.

First: People seem to forget that in the TNG era the Borg weren't figuratively unstoppable, they were literally unstoppable. If we were to play the Borg at full power we would just lose. It would be just as bad as the storyline butt kicking we're taking at the hands of the Iconians. We were losing in the Star Trek Destiny novels where the Borg had destroyed half the Federation before an entirely different species cruised in and dealt with them. It's an unwinnable fight.

Second: I like the idea that our technology has advanced to the point that we are outpacing the Borg's ability to adapt to us. The idea that we separately working as a team and using our imaginations and creativity, our chaos, and multitude of ideas is providing superior results to the Borg and their forced hive mind's "perfect unity" is very compelling and very Roddenberry-esque.

As for the Undine, the current peace accord works out for me, and I hope that they show up for the final battle to showcase their strength.

As far as this war ending too fast it depends on how they do it. If it's victory by Temporal Incursion as we've been working on then it makes perfect sense. Pushing the Herald/Andromeda Sphere clear out of time would pretty much crush the Iconian military, cancel the war, and revert the changes, a galactic system restore if you would.

Excited about the admirality system! Like others, I kinda suspect it's going to be kind-of-like doffing, but what the heck, a new feature is a new feature, who knows, it might evolve into something great ;-) Personally, I like the idea I saw on the forums around here somewhere, to have the possibility to use your inactive ships and boffs to design your own "distress beacon" and summon those ships to help you in space combat. And while the end to the Iconian war might seem sort of abrupt, it's quite possible this will not be the last we see of them...

It's not some guess that people are "suspecting", that is official:

That will enable players to utilize ships to complete assignments similar to the current Duty Officer system

Personally, while I think it sounds like a cool season, I was disappointed to hear that it's coming out so soon.

There are still many issues with server latency/lag, there are broken powers and abilities etc. and the team is focused on 'the next big thing.'

We just got a nerf to Science Consoles because Bort basically told us they don't have time to fix them the right way.. is this why? So we can rush out a new season?

I like the ideas, but the game isn't ready for this yet. I understand the pressure to keep moving forward, but I wish that just once.. Cryptic would stop.. take a breath and deal with what we currently have. This game has some pressing needs that aren't getting met because everyone is working on new content.

The Star Trek Online team is pleased to announce the epic conclusion of the five-year Iconian War story arc with Star Trek Online: Season 11 – New Dawn!

    Learn more about it here!

    ~LaughingTrendy

I'm focusing in on what I have quoted here from the page you linked Trendy:
...the Admiralty System. Take command of your inactive starships to complete dangerous assignments and gather exciting rewards, while advancing your influence in the Admiralty campaigns. Within this system, each starship is given special traits and stats that must be used to successfully complete assignments. Plan carefully which ships are sent on which assignment in order to meet their requirements and offset various hazards, in an effort to yield great rewards across any of three separate campaigns...

So does THIS--as quoted from the linked page given to us by Trendy--mean we will be sending out our Inactive Starships to do missions THE SAME WAY as we currently send out our DOffs to do doff missions? And so with saying that, we all know how doff missions work: You pick a few doffs who literally have the "Special Traits and Stats" needed to successfully complete that kind of mission?

If so...that's cool. However if that is the way the Admiralty System will work then I would like to put forward the notion that we as players would much more enjoy seeing these "inactive" ships in real-time action...and then secondly as a mini movie like a cutscene if that is possible.

In any regards though, this does seem like we may be getting something better than I am imagining. I like it so far, Cryptic. I'll keep my paid subscription up as long as these new mechanics are in some way exiting, and hopefully, ENGAGE!

Wait, so what happened in-game with the Iconians, that the war is over? Last I remember, we managed to kill one unwise Iconian (who behaved STUPIDLY/AGAINST CHARACTER), and that's all it takes? I thought they were grand puppet masters of doom, and the whole war ends when they get one casualty? WTF?!? What about the Other? What about the time ship/weapon that we were supposedly building? What happened to Sela? There are so many loose plot strings, I can't begin to count... Is there more after Broken Circle that I'm missing?

    ?!?!?

    As far as Season 11...

Oh please make it so. Worst possible plot device. I'd rather see the war ended by pink flying potatoes riding polka dotted targs before I see this TRIBBLE weapon used.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

Iconian War coming to an end. Very short to deal with the real enemy of this huge story line. Kinda reminds me of the crappy Green Lantern movie. All hype of a big bad, and he dies in less than 10 mins. To me I'm glad to see this end, the Iconians proved to be horrible. Even the story dealing with them directly is horrible. So I'm glad to see this end. And get something new.

All new missions and theme for them. This is good. Hope it goes well.

Chase coming back for VOs. I love VOs, keep them coming.

Ships being used as DOFFs. I will pass. I stopped doing DOFFS after the Great DOFF Nerf. As it was no longer productive to do. As it removed a great way to help my alts gained Exp to level.

So being the transparency with this message its going to be another grindfest added onto all the other grindfests that I'm not interested in. I am sure though it will be a grindfest and then some random person we have never heard from before will have designed it and will say oh it was never intended that way. I don't mean to be negative but the horrible design of the ship mastery and specialization systems to where its so grindy even with all the time I could spend on it would take forever just to get it all done on one character much less 20+ as well as ships ship per character I must have 100's of ships there would always be some behind the grind. So essentially this grindfest its whole design puts players in a negative position and works against the devs who are designing them. You'd figure after like 80-90% of the player base left along with me that there would be some kind of incentive or motivation to try to attempt to retain some old players.

Edit: Oh yeah in response to the cardassian and dominion aspect of the game. The way they have marketed this game and one of reasons they won't do another faction is this whole ship issue especially with every ship they push that you buy its now a grind to get its full functionality "PER CHARACTER". Really what they need to do establish the canon base line of ships keep it at a certain tier and not do a gear/ship treadmill. What they need to do after everyone is happy with ship lines is just make new ships in lockboxes and instead of making more and more ships they need to just replace it with buying consoles, weapons, etc and then the tech would be labelled on what kinds of ships it would be accessible on. Which would solve any ship gaps in different factions ship lines. Thus would open themselves up to making more money without disgust from the player base and be able to build more playable factions.

I do get however there is some grind to any mmo you can play out there but when it comes to being limited to one character at a time its too much. Now I might change my toon if this admiralty system is something that is account based for ships where when you master a ship type all characters of that given faction or what not who have the ship get it and same with specialization. GW2 has a system for their world vs world where there are 10,000 ranks but its design is not for anyone to ever reach it. Its a lot like the specialization system here where when you rank 1,400 you are specialized in every area its just the reason for the absurd amount of extra levels is it gives you a loot chest each time you get to the next rank which can be random what you get which may have been one of the big reasons I made the switch because I could have tons of alts there and benefit from my time playing there. Not trying to put devs here down or anything but if I like having tons of alts and you do per character basis here and I have the choice of going somewhere with a lot less grind I am gonna go with the game with lesser grind.

It's a good thing that I don't take those who are "hesitant" about this update too seriously. I am optimistic that this update with the Admiralty system (which some are claiming to be "grindy" when they have absolutely no proof of it being that way) is going to be a good one.

Yeah it all boils down to how its going to be rolled out because if its going to be more per character per ship and it adds something new to it like that then yeah its going to be even more of a grindfest.

Lets see we are going to visit the world of alts real quick just to show you the "proof". Alright just say out of all my characters we just take 20 which have about all the same stuff grinded up already. Now take in account each one of my characters has atleast 15 ships which are mostly either lockbox or fleet. So thats around 200-300 ships I'd estimate being I have more characters than that. Being the proof that it is as grindy as so many people have quit because its a given fact just check your #'s in the queues it will tell you a lot :) A lot like the holding systems where the new ships or what not are bought using max tier in those most likely the admiralty system will only be accessible to those with max specializations so then take the xp it takes per character then add all of this together and I give you my hesitation.

    3) I too realize that the 'Admiralty System' WON'T be a full hands on tactical combat experience like in STO story missions; but as others have stated, I hope it's a more hands on real time strategy (perhaps turn based) system; and not just a glorified reskin of the existing Doff Assignment System using your inactive starships in place of slotting Duty Officers. I hate to say this, but it would not surprise me in the least if a glorified Doff system was what the Admiralty system turned out to be - but I'll reserve judgement and hope for the best until more infor on it is released or it appears on Tribble for whatever player testing/feedback Cryptic and PWE allow.

Depending on how it's done, it could be a framework for future enhancements beyond what they are describing so far.

Shouldn't this be 10.6 or something? Season 10.5 was only released roughly 3 months ago.

Well, I recall something along the line that those who attend the LV convention will get to find out how this Season's going to end, so it's going to be another month yet (four weeks of the next episode before the start of the new Season).

Hey, it's been ages since I've played Alpha with my previous account, when's the Anniversary? Was in September of 2010? Man, I feel old.
