Should I get back into it or is it not ripe yet?

been out of the game for a few months, blew past the summer event because I've done the winter one too many times and the aniversary event was dull for me.

I hear the war storyline is nice, but I'm not sure I wanna get back into the game until it's ripe, and the heavy escort carrier (redux) just puts me off more and makes me think they're putting all their semi-originality into the story for now.

The game is 5+ years old. If it's not "ripe" yet, it never will be. Of course, everyone has their own opinion, so the only one who can actually answer your question...is you. You'll have to try it yourself and see if it meets your standards.

I mean more in the sense of the storyline not the game itself

Ok, well what is your definition of "ripe"? The Iconian storyline is not finished yet, so?

I just came back to this game after being a Beta tester and lifetime subscriber, just to see what was changed and if it was any better/worse in the 3 years since I last played...
And I have to say I'm impressed with the detail. Having the same actors doing the voices of characters they immortalized on TV was a major plus! The new missions seem so much bigger, more intricate, than they used to be (and the last time I played was Season Six, so...)! The cutscenes are almost cinematic in quality!
Aside from all that, the crafting system was overhauled since the last time I played, which was awesome, it's so intuitive now; and the missions I did last night were buggy as hell, which brought back good memories; yes, if it seems like I'm gushing on this game, I guess I am. Coming from someone who played this game in its formative years, it's done nothing but improve markedly on most all fronts.
    But opinions vary...

You may not care whether the storyline is good or not when you see the intense lag/server problems we've had for the past several months. They're still really bad but somewhat tolerable if you exclusively solo. Buy yourself a stress ball or punching bag if you like team play.

Everything you own is obsolete, PVP is dead, queues are empty, only thing left to do is single-player episode missions at normal difficulty with your old gear

STO has been dead since DR launched 10/2015. Why come back to a dead MMO...oh well on life support but very close to it anyways :#

    Its limited, but still playable.

Until the servers blow up in the future from old age, or whatever they are suffering from.

Steam charts show July 2015 had more players than July 2014.

Meaning what, exactly? Whenever people cite Steam charts to show *less* players, other people shout them down and say that the steam stats are just a small sample that doesn't accurately represent the game. If that is true, then the same logic applies if the steam stats show *more* players, right?

As someone else said...you just have to get on yourself and try it out. Different people have reasons to play the game, and opinions vary widely. Only you know for sure.

Well if nothing else they removed the failure stuff from advanced queues...so that's something I guess if you like STFs.
