Tonight, my attempted tracert from Eugene, OR to patcherserver.crypticstudios.com is a solid wall - all 30 attempts - of "request timed out."
Well, then. Guess that explains why I can't log in.
If all hops Timed out you may have bigger issues than the reset of us
Yes indeed, a tracert isn't 30 attempts, it's 30 hops. IF all hops are timing out that means even your router is timing out, as it is the very first hop there.

Good point. Gave my router a kick (unplug, reconnect) and I'm patching now, at least. We'll see if things are any better if/when I get in game.
Currently I'm unable to even load the game client far enough to allow me to log in as this is a fresh install on a newer computer through Steam. Each time I try to load, I get as far as the "Loading. Please wait." black screen and that's where it stays.
Verifying the game file integrity through Steam will occasionally trigger an update of the game client's autoupdater, but it ends up with the same result.
On my other PC, the game client will load, allow me to log in, proceed past the Cryptic loading bar screen, then crash immediately after the "Star Trek Online - The Iconian War" Screen.
I'm connected via TALK TALK in the UK and have successfully connected with them before this.
I've done a tracert and path ping with these results: Tracing route to patchserver.crypticstudios.com [208.95.185.41] over a maximum of 30 hops:

Doesn't anyone notice the commonality in many of the complaints (not even just this thread, but so many others over so long)?
...since the patch on Thursday...
Why should any one of us have to update drivers or software or hardware (like some idiots saying "just go buy a new computer!") that worked perfectly fine the day before patching and work perfectly fine now with anything other than STO?
Cryptic broke it, Cryptic should fix it, or apparently Cryptic doesn't want us to play the game (so why bother patching?).
The stupidity of the entire situation (and it's not like it's a recent development) is staggering.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
Frankly, we may have to wait until Thursday's patch to hope this is fixed.
Frankly and not frankly. Thursdays are the only day we have patches. They will never do a maintenance in a day that is not thursday. Not until the fix is related to some player sploit lol.

Or related to season maintenance, event, or some emergency fix that made the game so broken and unplayable that enough of a base could not play at all... wait it's getting that way already..

And maybe because it is "only" a "group" of players.. we will never get a maintenance patch in other day than thursday. Same happens with the massive lag in-game, since there is only a group of players complaining about it (while there are thousands asking for new shinys.. incredible) and since people seem to be really enjoying the lag in a space shooter (lets figure, in the meantime they keep draining their pockets) i dont think cryptic will do anything about it either. Not until the game becomes totally unplayable (and we are not far from that point). How sad is to know things are this way and we are talking about an amazing ip as star trek is.. sigh, so terribly sad.

I was talking about regular maintenances (implying stability maintenance) not "special" ones and so you know a lot of those dates are regular maintenances that were moved to other days because of some reasons/events/server downfalls. Meaning, still there was only 1 maintenance patch in the week.

still having failure to login. problem has been going on for a month know. I have wiped the files and it took 6 hours to download the game on a 100mb connection, worked for a couple days and now it's back to the failures.
no as i have the same issue evey night at around 9 - the time i log off, 900+ ping, high recv: number and so on
so i think cryptic really doesnt care about us, as they just want us to buy the fancy new ships, but who cares if we cant log in / stay logged in to use them right?

I got to Char selection screen a few times but after clicking play on the selected char I get booted back to log in screen.
Edit: Im in now and have switched chars a couple times successfully.
