Reactive Armor Catalysts, whats your thoughts on this week's Reward? For Broken Circle

Its more or less a Battery that heals hull points and gives temporary hit points so what's your thoughts on this? And how much HP does it give with Starship Batteries at maxed?
The Rising of the Delta is the best expansion ever, and people love it to death because it is a good day to die in the endless struggle for supremacy of your own conviction. (A spin off of the Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and all the players love it.)

Honestly, I think they are pretty useful, but having only received 5 of them, Ill just tuck them away in my inventory, like I do with all desirable devices, like large batts, Event consumables, and dual batteries.

I must be a hoarder, because I have a fear of using these special items...
I hate the idea of running out of something lol, so my bank is stuffed with all kinds of these special devices.
I only ever use the regular shield/aux/engine/weapon batteries.

Wish there was more ways to get these special consumables, would love to use them...but cant bring myself to waste them.

You can make more in the engineering R&D tab. I think it's engineering anyway, it's definitely in the R&D tab somewhere, I made a bunch more myself.

Anyway, they're not game breakers by any means, but it's nice to have an extra little panic button on my ship that doesn't really conflict with other items. Haven't used them much so far because I tend to forget I have them though, I'm really bad with devices for some reason.

I can't see myself using them if they are character bound. I'm not running this mission for every character on my account, just so they can craft these for themselves. Once was bad enough.

Yep. have to agree with you on this.. I place this in the same useless category as other similar FE and STF common drops for all the ship devices, i.e. Batteries, MK X common consoles and/or MK X common ground gear.

Simply, imho a slap in the players face for running a "Special Featured Event". Seriously, if it's an "End Game" mission, seems to me loot should be balanced accordingly,; End Game Value, or Featured value, not common vendor fodder trash.

IMHO, any STF, Feature Episode, or Special Event, or for that matter; ANY of the PvE que missions should be a minimum of RARE quality drop. Why go thru the burden of getting the best gera, only to get a majority of Trash Drops ??

I couldn't find anywhere in the R&D Engineering tab where to craft more after having acquired and unpacked them on that character who had Engineering at or above level 15. Will have to look again.

Also, I really hope the crafted ones won't be character bound since as with other crafted gear they shouldn't be bound at all, so that this way one character who is highest in engineering R&D can make them and hand them out to other toons or sell them.

    They Can be crafted in R&D.. Engineering; about the 4th one down.. requires 3common + 2 uncommon Gasses; 5 seconds to cook and you get 1 R&D XP for the process.. You can craft 5 at a time; the do stack higher than 5; and they ARE BOUND to character;

Don't know what R&D level you have to be to do the process.. All my toons are L17 in all schools..

I see it as a device that completely replaces low-lvl engineering abilities, further pushing those into obscurity.

I'm going to get a lot more use out of these than I would out of yet another 'not quite as good as rep gear' set.

As it's a device it's a pretty handy item especially in a tight spot if you have exhausted all other options, it's quite similar to the intel ability when using attack patterns in conjunction with "The Best Defense" trait. Though you only get 5 at a time so you will have to grind that mission a few times.

If you have R&D Engineering @ 15, you can sometimes get 15 Reactive Armor Catalysts. These are nice, even though I primarily uses Weapon Batteries. =P

I actually started a thread on this topic yesterday: perfectworld.vanillaforums.com/discussion/1196772/reactive-armor-catalyst-feedback-request

Basically I like the 'Hypos for Starships' concept and implementation, but I'm not pleased with them being character bind on pickup, or the fact that the recipe requres Tritanium (an already over-taxed R&D material) to make them.

Yeah I was excited by it until a crafted up some and saw they are bound to character. No way I'm running this 6 times this week when I will have to do it 6 times the 4th week for the Delta pirate reinforcements. Having to kill that Iconian kind of rubs me the wrong way.

The craftables are untradeable? Wow... Cryptic really has no clue about crafting and it's purpose in a MMO.

The reward is not 5 consumable items, but the R&D unlock ability.
It is nice to have, but as expected they share a cooldown with other batteries, RMC and similar devices. Down the line I expect to be able to craft enhanced or superior versions, hybrid devices, etc same as other devices.

The consumables, like most Featured Episode rewards, are Bind on Pickup. We want a character to have run this mission at least once to be able to make use of them, just like we want a character to run a mission at least once to access the new Training Manuals.

You can acquire more via either re-running the mission, or through crafting. They are in the Engineering R&D tab, close to the top, and don't require a high Engineering skill level to craft.

    I see good and bad.

Good: I can use it to help in a pinch to keep my ship or ground crew alive. This is why I use some items like this. So I can make good out of this. Other good, I can make more with crafting to keep my supply up.

Bad: From reading what others said, its Bound so you can't sell or mail it. This sucks since I have only 1 craft character. And they will only get good use out of it. This hurts my chances of making some for my other characters. To make good use out them.

Final thought: This is why I will wait until the event is over to do the FE. Then I can pick and choose the rewards. IF others are good enough I will run it again. Plus this buys them time to fix the bugs in it as well.

I love them! I think they're very useful and am happy they offered them. Many of my softer ships like Escorts have carried the Samsar Console just to use as a 'panic button' of sorts for when I get a little too reckless. I like these because they free that console slot that I can now use for something that's more beneficial to the ship build. Plus, they're consumables which I like because I usually have an Engine Battery or something in there that I really don't even need, now I have something there that I might actually use.

Overall, I think they're a nice addition to the game, and I'm quite happy with them. It doesn't surprise me that they're bound, I figure they would want you to run it with all your alts. I don't think they should make them sellable on the exchange, but it would be kind of nice if they were account bound and not character bound.. just so I can pass some to alts instead of having to replay the mission. Oh well, only going to run it on 2 characters.
    Insert witty signature line here.
  • orion0029orion0029 Member Posts: 1,122 Bug Hunter
Indeed, account bind on pickup would be a nice compromise... However, since these things are effectively 'Hypos' I'm still confused as to why something like this would be bind on pickup at all.

If they were something else like those pesky Scorpion fighter devices, I could understand it and wouldn't complain, but a bind on pickup hypo? WTF?

One thing is for certian, at this rate very few of my characters are going to be using them (two, maybe three), for this reason alone.
  • scarlingscarling Member Posts: 708 Arc User
I like them. A nice heal for some of my ships that otherwise don't have much boff room for heals. Cheap and easy to craft as well. Just have to summon the will to grind this freaking mission on every character.
