How do I make dead NPCs?

Hello,

Hopefully this will be a quick and simple question. How do I make a dead body on a foundry map? Working on a mission where I want the player to scan a dead body. However I can't get the animation right, the closest I can get is "sleeping" and that just looks odd. I've been scratching my head over this for longer than I want to admit.

I appreciate the help.

Thank you!

You've got the right idea, actually. There's an animation (I forget the name) where the NPC is face-down and motionless. I've also placed NPCs so they clip into level geometry, to make it look like they have limbs or even their head missing.

As for how to scan the body, put an invisible object on top of the NPC and key the objective to that.

"Lie flat front" is the right one I think. Also, I heard that the posture setting might have some influence here.

Be careful with this one. It sometimes bugs out and the NPCs will actually be standing when the mission is published. (It happened on my Spotlight mission with a number of civilian Romulan NPCs)

Just make sure to playtest your mission after it gets published to see if they are really face down or standing. :)

With NPC mobs in general, I've noticed that they don't spawn at all until you get within a certain distance of their pushpin (or if it's part of a kill objective, until that objective is in progress), and then they beam in standing up, and only after that do they assume their specified animation.

And, as has been noted many timed previously in this forum, you also should not use mobs to represent dead people if you plan on having combat in the same area. Otherwise, you and the players will be treated to the sight of your "dead" NPCs getting up to fight, then lie down dead again once the combat has ended.

Believe that was solved with the Addition of "Non Combat NPC Groups"
