This would be great for RPers who don't like the immersion break of everyone calling their character Admiral when not everyone wants to RP an admiral!

NPCs could refer to you by a rank of your choice selected in the character info editing window.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

I vote the first option, since requiring level cap is an incentive for people to level their characters.

Yea, you don't need a poll for this, most people want to be Captains all the way through. I would't mind been stuck at Commodore (RA LH) if only it were a full rank and not half of one... and actually called Commodor.

Yes! but why wait till level 60?
I recently gathered enough Zen to buy Original Series uniforms for my "emergency backup account" (no longer such a backup, as one of my favorite characters lives there). Grunt and his crew are now wearing the classic uniforms, odd as it is to see a Klingon in science blue, and Grunt sports the stripes of a captain (as he is, after all, commanding a single vessel, not a fleet or a starbase). It'd be nice if the NPCs, and his crew, could call him "Captain".

This should already be how the "Title" window in the Character Info editor works... we all earn a title every time we level up a rank. And, ultimately, they serve no purpose.

As an avid roleplayer - Yes. Let people choose the rank they are, in a dialogue - this choice doesn't hurt anyone, so if anyone wishes to be still an Admiral, they still can be.

Considering none of us delegates command of our ships to a flag captain or is stuck behind a desk running a command, and that the typical "hero" rank of Star Trek is captain...

Definitely. We can choose our pip ranks, so dialogue would just be catching up.

I think it would be a great idea. The only question would be how to handle the Vaadwaur arc, which specifically treats you as an admiral. I suppose you'd have to consider yourself a task force captain if you don't take the admiral rank.

In my stories, two of my Fed characters are captains, and one actually does wind up as a vice admiral. My Reman...she may well receive admiral status, but since I don't write her in my stories, I'm not sure.

Except it doesn't, not really. The only person in the entire game so far who actually treats you as his superior officer is Harry Kim. Everyone else just orders you about like you're a green ensign fresh out of the Academy instead of a seasoned officer who's seen more combat than the entire Starfleet admiralty put together, and Neelix has you running around doing jobs even an O-6 would delegate to the juniormost enlisted crewman on the whole ship.

Same. Morgan's a subadmiral, which I'm treating as the Romulan equivalent of a commodore rather than a full-blown admiral, the rest are captains.

I actually would've done the Neelix bit pretty close to as-is, but lampshaded it by having Tuvok and Neelix arguing behind the player character the whole time, with Tuvok insisting (rightly) that it's inappropriate, and Neelix not really getting the point, and the player heavily implying that he/she is just going along to get it overwith.

I think the repartee between Tuvok and Neelix there would've had some real humor potential. ;)

Storywise I had my Vice Admiral character dropped down to captain by Starfleet command due to a rather difficult incident in which her first officer's life was at stake, and the prime directive was skirted more than slightly to save her.
The judge in charge of her case admits he'd do the same thing, but Starfleet could not ignore the incident, which was rather messy.

She doesn't actually mind it though being an admiral is extremely stressful especially when you're also going down on every single away team for some reason, and running frequent dangerous missions yourself. :/

She'll probably make it back to admiral eventually but for now is actually enjoying having less authority.

I am not going to vote, like I am ever going to reach that cap! HAHAHAHAHA
    Then Choose Option #2 :/

Perhaps different titles based on whether the captain is tac, sci or eng. We already have some titles based on our toon's accolades, that could be expanded.
Except it doesn't, not really. The only person in the entire game so far who actually treats you as his superior officer is Harry Kim.
Even as a captain he's still an ensign at heart!

Players of any level should be able to choose what rank they are addressed as, but only the ones they've earned up to their current level.

Fairly sure that Admiral Pike did that because Kirk tried to cover up the Prime Directive violation (and badly at that), not for the violation itself.

Meh I decided against going with the whole thing since I've been reinforced in my belief that admirals are often captains with more authority and responsibility.

Too late! Your vote is unchangeable! MWAH-AH-AH-AH! YOUR SOUL BELONGS TO US!

Good admirals in ST are a rarity. They tend to be obstructive bureaucrats, or be working for S31, or be aliens in disguise, etc. I think those extra pips must be radioactive or something.

Plus, I just like being addressed as captain more than as admiral. It feels right. Makepeace doesn't want to be an admiral, he wants to explore and find cool new stuff. Sitting behind a desk deploying fleets is counter to his purpose in joining Starfleet. He's already been roped into swapping from science to tactical, he doesn't want to move even farther away.

I keep my vote, I still agree we should be able to choose our ranks. I have several alts who are Captains.

Elizabeth "Liza" Angel Klein doesn't think of herself so much as an armchair commander as she does as a Starfleet Officer of heightened responsibility, exploring and fighting for the galaxy and commanding forces when need be from her ship.
