Anyone else sick of all the spoiler threads?

potasssiumpotasssium Member Posts: 1,226 Arc User
Am I the only person who's getting sick of people posting or speculating about upcoming ships and all that type of stuff, I don't know but it kind of like ruining someone's Christmas morning or birthday, I just I think it's getting out of hand.

I don't know with everything people are speculating is true or not, but it just seems as if there are almost more speculated T6 ships then there are currently in the game. I guess there is some place you can go to find out this stuff, but stop ruining the surprise for everyone by blaring it everywhere here.

Or am I alone in feeling this way?

If it's only speculating, it's not really a spoiler.
They're not really gone, as long as we remember them

incoming ships, especially ones that are going to expect you to open your wallet arent really spoilers imo.... As for potential plot spoilers... I suppose Im guilty of those but the writing cryptic puts out lately killed any "christmas joy" I might have felt at new content some time ago.

If it's just speculation, I'm not bothered--in fact, I'm likely to join in with the best of them. If it's an actual spoiler, that's a whole different story.

I got sick of movie and album spoilers a long time ago after a couple of incidents...one where people relentlessly trash-talked an album that I almost didn't buy because of that, but ended up really liking, and a second where some nitwit on another forum posted in a thread title before I got a chance to see Star Trek 2009, "VULCAN GETS DESTROYED!" I am still annoyed at whoever did that, to this day. Totally thoughtless.

Even here, when I don't have time to play a new FE at the same time other people do because of work or vacation or whatever, I hate when people put spoilers in thread titles.

Why is this? I would rather form my own impression of things instead of potentially going into something with a bias that colors my view one way or the other. There are various things people can do to be polite about spoilers though...

    1) Please do not put spoilers in the actual thread title. I don't want another "VULCAN GETS DESTROYED!" type incident.

    2) If you need to insert a spoiler in a thread where people have no reasonable expectation of spoilers, please use spoiler tags.

    3) Consider tagging the thread title itself with "SPOILERS" if you know there are going to be extensive spoilers.

That's just my take on it, anyway. :)

The frequency went up a lot after some poor soul dropped a link in one of their threads. I don't have a problem as long as it's not story spoilers or it's marked as a spoiler.

Doesn't help that 90% of the time it seems the Devs go forth and blab the latest greatest to podcast X or news site Y instead of, you know, actually releasing their information through their own forums, then going forth with the social media / blogger / podcast hype trains to let the non-site-using-folks in on the latest...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

I am lucky i have a superpower, and with this superpower i can guess if it a speculation or spoiler subject by just reading the first sentence. If i detect speculation or spoiler subjects after the first sentence, i'll use another superpower, that is the will to not read further and read other threads. :)

I know, you must be jealous. Do not worry, this superpower has a downside. Because most of the times people get angry in the comments when you just revealed your superpower.

That reminds me of the time I read Isaac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy. I was in the midst of reading the first volume when I was glancing at the back covers of the other two. I inadvertently read the last line of the last volume - 'Second Foundation' where it stated Preem Palver was the First Speaker of the Second Foundation. That was supposed to be a big surprise, but not anymore. Oops, was that a spoiler? Probably not - nobody reads that stuff anymore.

If it's a ship that's going to obsolete an existing ship, especially one I'm tempted to purchase, I'd like to know that the new one is on the horizon.

Story spoilers should be set in spoiler tags, I agree with that. It's just common courtesy. Upcoming ships though, I don't see how that spoils anything. I like being able to look up what's coming so I can plan ahead. I cosnider the two-day-advance official announcement to be a bad joke anyway. If Cryptic's (or rather PWE's since they decide that stuff) information policy would be reasonable and actually include the players in running processes the community wouldn't have to data mine that stuff to make educated decisions.

Exactly how are threads talking about an incoming ship a "spoiler?"

Story spoilers can be annoying if you get them unexpectedly.

But I don't really consider spoilers about ships real spoilers. It's not like there is a big leadup to the huge surprise. There is just a lot of nothing and then Cryptic announces a ship.

I could imagine that it's not so great for Cryptic, if well-founded spoilers reach early it might influence purchase decisions. "Oh, an upgrade of my favourite ship is in the work? No need to buy the current release then."

Well, isn't the Foundation trilogy fundamentally all about spoilers? ;)

Is it not a natural reaction given the lack of information given by the development team?

This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Welcome to STO forums, they have been this way since i can remember lol. I only find really annoying the newbies that keep poping up with a cardassian faction (well the same stories as ever) or other similar things over and over again. Even if everybody knows that will never happen, people keep making polls and making hype of things lol. Well, let em, they are so obsessed with the game that they feel these forums are part of their trek life, they cant live without posting poll after poll or posting new -already discarded- ideas one after another lol.

Personally, I rather like knowing what ships are coming down the line as early as possible as it gives me a chance to save up dil/stipend for the ones I'd like to get. I don't see them as spoilers at all. Cryptic releasing that info only days before they release the ship in game doesn't give me that chance.

Knowing about the episodes before hand definitely counts as spoilers for me, but ships? Nah.

It's only speculation. Now if someone tired of it just don't view the link or question how good is Cryptic is keeping theirr secrets of upcoming content. Which they are horrible with?

So, I am guess a T6 Promethus, T6 Excelsoir, T6 Defiant, T6 Guramba, T6 Ha'pax, T6 Ark'rif and tons of more T6 lock box ships are coming next season!

    Speculation is out!

My annoyance at spoilers has specifically to do with story spoilers. The only time where a ship COULD be a spoiler is if someone gave away *plot* points that had to do with it in a new FE.

You can't blame people about talking about stories or ship. This occurs with most games even look at your movie trailers. Are you going blame and criticize people for dissecting trailers for a storyline?

I only blame people that do so without telling people that don't want to know beforehand that their post/thread will contain spoilers.
And that specifically applies to story trailers. Ship release spoilers are irrelevant in that regard, I think.

Yep, and even there, there's a difference between speculating about a trailer (after all, it could be wrong), and flat out blowing the plot for everybody (i.e. the VULCAN GETS BLOWN UP thread title I mentioned before). Trust me, I speculate, try to guess, but as long as someone doesn't give away what really happens in the story without a spoiler warning, I see no problem.
