Add Warp and Singularity Cores to all Space Sets

lowy1lowy1 Member Posts: 964 Arc User
I may be mistaken but it should be fairly easy s they did it with the Breen Set. It would also give us more variety with builds as it would enable us to mix and match between the older sets (Aegis, MACO, Adapted MACO, Borg, Nukara, Dominion, and Rom/Rem). They could be done as a mini update, Event, or put in the Lobi Store.

I would love to have Singularity Cores and Warp Cores for all the sets. I would love to have Warp/Singularity Cores for past Space Sets. I would love to have an Obelisk Singularity Core so I can use it on a Romulan Antiproton starship build. I also think the Command Battlecruiser set should be able to be used on the Kobali Cruiser since that ship does have one of the console of the four piece console set.

    Agree with OP.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

There was a reason why there would never be a Obelisk Singularity Core. Mostly because the obelisk itself had a warp core.

    1. The lobi store is not an acceptable option for the 4th piece of a reputation set (which is a hint on what the more reasonable alternative is.)

    2. Well don't you think if it were just a matter of initiative cryptic would have done this when they added warp cores? The question was around back then but they didn't manage it. Why? Because game development isn't magic. You can't simply turn an idea into a working in-game asset just by thinking it'll be a swell idea. In this case you have to develop an entire set of items that suit existing equipment trios which then provides a 4th set perk for all of them. That generally involves some kind of new art asset (in addition to the thumbnail, be it a passive or an active power) which involves someone sitting down at a desk and making that asset. And its worth remembering that even once made that item still needs to go through some process of iterative balancing to not wreck the game in some way (however small).

In short its a bit of work, and you're asking it for 7 times over. Its certainly not prohibitive but it adds a hefty point of contention to the easy impulse "I like stuff!"

You might say "well why do they have to be that specific, why can't they just give us some sort of stock warp core to finish off our equipment sets? They don't need to be complimentary, just give us something." But then what the hell is wrong with a generic warp core (particularly the fleet versions)? Practically there's nothing wrong with the current system. Fundamentally 4-bit rep sets aren't inherently superior to 3-bit sets. It always depends on what specific bonuses they grant for a specific build. The 3-bit set just isn't as tidy looking.

And its worth considering that not developing more reputation warp cores allows cryptic to make other things instead (as dev time not spent there inevitably allows it to be spent elsewhere). On balance it might not be all that much dev time, but its still better spent elsewhere.

I want warp cores and secondary detectors added for all reps. Let me run a 2pc and a 3pc set please; that'll make up for only having 6 weapons.

Warp/Singularity cores, secondary deflectors, omni-beams, hangar pets - ideally each set would have basic sets and a complementary gimmick not every ship can use. But "ideally" we would also have to hope for them to drop but before that happens I want open-ended procedually generated gameplay - without that the store is the better alternative. Im not talking about grinding the same STF a million times.

They add a new set with every reputation and every quarter with the new lock box. While it does take time, it is not as monumental as one would think. W/Cs already have mods, its just a matter of adding a gimmick special or bonus to the set. As it is it would be 8 W/C and 9 Sing cores. There are 6 rep sets without a core, Rom, Reman, Nukara, and the 3 from Omega. One from Story Line (Jem), 1 crafted (Aegis) and then add a SIngularity Core for the Obelisk It wouldn't be a bridge to far to add them to those. It may even add to increased usage of the sets. The Romulan and Reman sets are garbage outside of the Rom Engine. The Jem set is meh as well but is the only set that gives a bonus to Polaron. Nukara has a nice 2 piece set bonus, but you're married to the engines and shields which aren't spectacular.

I think we had this discussion when they did the Reputation revamp last year. Nothing ever came of it then either.

The Vesta would be able to use all of that, which would be unfair to the RR and KDF :p

But on topic, I suppose part of me would love this...and part of me wouldn't. I suppose it wouldn't effect the DPS crowd since they probably want to use energy saving cores...so I don't know.

Why this was not done in the first place is a really good question, in the first place. Thanks again for playing. You can't play if you don't win?!?!

Just keep trying to remember something that hasn't happened yet and you'll be O.K.
