Fleet Duvqu' Heavy Destroyer

((tip of the RP hat here. Best way to say just HOW much I like this ship.))

The diminutive Orion stood looking out the view window at the ship floating besides what appeared to be a Vor Kang class battle cruiser. That was her ship. She had never been what she appeared though. The I.K.S. Dancer was a fleet Tor'kaht under the skin with all the capabilities of her kind. With the firepower, maneuverability, and toughness to chase down escorts and raider class ship on ground of their own choosing, or take on the mightest of ships. The Dancers record of battle was second to no ones. Soon though she would be commanded by another after a lengthy refit process that had all ready started. Moored near by in a mobile gantry frame was her newest command. An improved fleet varient of Duvqu' class heavy destoryer. Some of the empires very newest heavy metal. Like all Destroyers she gave up a battle cruisers large crew and the ability to field a battalions worth of marines for a massive gain in agility, and efficiency. And a significantly reduced production, logistics and maintainence costs.

As was not unusual as an Orion, the Dahar Master had many friends and acquaintances with the Federation then she had in her own empire. In spite of the honors she had received, or perhaps because of them very few KDF Klingon captains would talk with her, much less and fellow Orions (which her clan had become estranged over 200 years previous when the fled the Orion enclave and the then rapidly expanding Federation for the Empire). She had her crew, hard working, and loyal to a fault. Klingons might be surly, and slow to warm to non Klingons, but when they did warm they had a tendency to warm all the way. There had been some magnificent if not epic bar fights over the years of her crew defending the honor of their ship, and their captain.

She continued to watch with a professionals eye, as shuttle, service and support craft, along with several dock tugs swirled around the ship paying very close attention to a evolution playing out at the ships bow. She new ship stock weapony had been removed shortly after delivery from the construction ways, and was being retrofitted with elements of the Dancer equipment. Her warp core, shields, impulse engines, and deflector array had all ready been replaced. Consoles fitted and tested, and most of her weaponry replaced. The dual beam array was being fitted in place of her forward cannon mounts
at the moment, and it looked like the yard dogs had just ow managed to slide the bulky assembly in place. There, she could see the snap and glow of laser welders has hull plates were fitted back into position and secured.

She would have her ship within the next 2 hours, and what a surprise she would be to the Iconians. She would need to spend a number of days working the ship up. The crew had all ready spend well over 200 hours at simulator training at the Academy simulation complex. Though there was no way to tell the benefits of holo training.. especially the way the KDF did it... safeties off.. KDF holo training could and did kill unlucky and unprepared crews. Still, there was nothing like being in a real ship.. no matter how good and lethal the simulation, it was still a simulation.

She took a moment to review on her PADD the ships statistics and configuration from the refit. Fitted out with full anti proton weaponry, 2 dual beam banks, and a single beam array forward, 3 beam arrays aft, and a single advanced radiant quantum torpedo bank forward. The weapons suite was not uniform.. ranging from mark 12 to mark 14, but that would be delt with in time.

Her secret installations how ever would far more extensive then many other ships would or could carry. Some how during construction of the fleet version the graving dock masters had managed to further strengthen the hull, and had managed to configure the shield emitters to provide nearly a 15% increase to shield capacity. And yet still managed to squeeze room in for yet one more additional console.

It had all the makings of a superior warship. Some of her fellow captains had questioned the decision to move to a smaller, lighter hull. She had refused to answer any questions on it. The reality was she was quite thrilled to move to the newer construction. The Duvqu' were much more efficiently laid out ships with an emphasis on the ability to preform long patrols away from support. Mostly that meant that the crew accommodations were outright luxurious by KDF standards. Crew were housed in very roomy 4 man staterooms, with senior NCO's and Junior officers 2 to a room. The ship only lost a fraction of her firepower to having one less weapon mount then the big battle cruiser, but more then made up for it through the use of special assemblies and equipment. Only time and her record of battle would tell, but the captain was absolutely certain that she was now commanding a far more dangerous ship to the empire enemies then the Dancer had been.. and Dancer had been a nightmare for those same enemies.

Her ears perked "Where is captain del Solima?". She turned slightly lifting and arm. "over here Commander". The commander stomped up sketching a quick salute. "Sir, I have had reported that the hull is sealed, and all equipment is now on board and connected. All systems have received a minimum of a level 3 diagnostic test. Dahar Master, we are as ready as we are going to be. Have you considered a name for her? She nodded. "All senior officers to don EVA suits along with any of the crew that desires. Assemble on the hull forward near the deflector array, and have a force bubble with and atmosphere rigged at the forward dorsal navigation and formation lamp. I will be there momentarily." The commandeer saluted and transported out.

Moments later the Captain, her senior officers and much of the crew were floating off the ships bow. She turned in place on suit thruster's and looked over her crew. Activating her comm she spoke. "Warriors of the Empire. We have seen dangers together that would freeze the blood of those less then we. We fight a war now with beings not far removed from gods. Ancient, wise, and terrible, with no concern for anything other then them selves and their own goals. They do not negotiate with lesser being, which they most certainly consider us, but, they can be hurt. Kahless showed us the way, even at the cost of his own life. They struck down our emperor with a blade in the back, and showed their lack of honor so completely that even contempt for them would be unworthy of a true warrior. We were there, We saw, We remember. We will not forget the contemptuous honor stealing murder of our Emperor. In my hand I have a vial of the Emperors blood preserved from sample taken after the clones birth by the monks of Borath. In the Emperors blood this ship will be named."

Reaching her suit gloves through the force field that had been set up, she unstopped the vial. Dipping a gloved finger into the blood, she carefully formed the letters of the ships name upon the hull. She took a moment to examine her handiwork.
There was a tiny amount of the Emperors blood still in the vial. She carefully stoppered the vile and put it away, and then dropped the force field. For just a moments time vapor jetted away from the now vacuum dried blood on the hull.

Her first officer officer grunted in approval over the comm, and set a camera up to transmit the view to all on the ship who could not be outside. The Dahar Master and Captain moved to one side and grappled her boots to the ships hull. Each of the crew came up silently and looked apon the ships name. One by one they came, they looked and then moved to anchor to the hull. As was the tradition of the fleet, there was no noise, no chatter. To do so was to challenge the captains honor, and show disapproval of the name. There was no disapproval of this name. She could feel the pride of the crew at the name in their silence, and bearing. It is a difficult thing to actually stand at attention in an EV suit, yet as she looked around all of the crew were standing such. The first officer though had a special duty, and had all ready returned to the ships bridge.

The Comm popped and crackled a moment and then the first officers voice was heard clearly. "Dahar Master, I am ready to make the first entry in the record of battle. Your orders?" She waited a beat of three before answering. "Have all yard and fitting out evolutions been completed, and rated acceptable?" He replied "Yes Captain. The yards have certified the ship battle ready." she waited again a beat or two before answering. "Make the entry in the ships record of battle That Dahar Master and captain Dame Kuiama del Solima takes command of contructors hull 657704223 as I.K.S. Kahless Ka this stardate. Will will avenge the death of the Emperor in the enemies blood or be destroyed in the attempt." .. she paused a moment and then shouted.. "VENGENCE!" she smiled for a moment has she heard the ships crew shout in reply three times "vengence". "all hands to stations, we deploy with in the hour. Captain out"

Well, if'n ya don't like the Vet DD its gotta be because you don't have one. And the Fleet version is the same ship with one more console slot, and slightly better shields and hull. As a player you can choose to use the Lt. Commander engineering/command hybrid slot or not. In my own case being a science captain I put a trait up engineer there, and engineer in the universal ensign slot, and a Lt.commander science in the LtC universal slot. My avatar has chosen to make piloting her primary specialization and is at this point something like 11 points shy of total Piloting mastery. The defensive buff of the specialization have drastically improved the ships defensive capabilities, which in course improves the ships offensive capabilities due the fact the ship simply stays alive longer to be offensive! I may as some point trade out reverse shield polarity II for a BOFF command spec skill, but any command skill I take is going to cost me an engineering skill for that BOFF and I'm not so sure THAT is that good of a trade off. While I do now need to work up the ships mastery to tier 4, I've all ready pegged tier 5 with the stock T6 vet DD. I've chosen to go with the Iconian Space weapons set, and systems set on this ship from the rep system on this build and am so far very pleased with it. Moving into the fleet version granted me an additional Engineering console. This ship is going to be a powerhouse. I don't know where my DPS is at the moment, but I am quite certain it is comfortabley past the 10k DPS mark, and closing on the 20k mark, if its not all ready there. I don't run a DPS parser so I could not tell you for sure. But that's what it feels like. Your mileage may differ!

oldkhemaraa you have a skill/knack/calling (not sure what word is appropriate tbh) for fiction. That short fiction actually brought me to tears when the ship name was revealed. I salute you.

I just noticed a couple types, and a need for a little itty bitty rewrite.. I frick'n hate rewrites.. but its gotta be done. Aaround 3 or 4 lines need to be tweeked, a couple of style changes here and there, and a litle seperation, and in some cases a better choice of words.

Thank you! Glad it was enjoyed and if brought a tear to your eye.. well, your not Klingon, they can't cry, no tear ducts.
