Why? Because each major Specialization is about 30 "levels" (barring possible secondary-only Specializations like Commando, which is only about 15 or so). And since we cannot respec Specializations, it would at least go a long way towards letting current and future players quickly (as much as they're motivated) "rebuild" to the new Specializations if they suit them better.
And on Cryptic's end, would actually encourage a bit more time spent in-game and less complaints about the grind; rather than players only focusing on one character and the tedium of having to grind them for one spec point, they'd be more likely to focus on their main and a few alts, without feeling the pressure of their alts never being able to catch up with their mains.
Reallly? I maxed out all four trees rather quickly. Kinda disappointed I can't earn more and hoard them for the next skill tree to come out.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to finishing off my delta engineer. Just got her up to 50 yesterday and I still have a ton of story content to finish.

Except this isn't real life. We aren't studying at Starfleet Academy for four years just to get a crewman position on a starship. We arn't tackling pros and cons and the better part of the Art of War. It is a video game. We already spend months of real time just upgrading Fleet Holdings and ect. It took months of playing to max out all my Federations Spec points. It took months of time to get all my R&D to level 15 in all trees. Far, far beyond what other traditional MMO's require. This game is -nothing- but one massive grind after another. Compared to other MMO's, Star Trek Online has absolutely terrible End-Game content. It is mocked by nearly every other game out there. Frankly, Cryptic should feel bad about it. On top of this mindless, endless grind they are re-releasing old ships, charging full price, and on top of that expecting us to still shell out for a Fleet Ship Module once they release the Fleet version. The money grabbing is real. Don't even get my started on the current upgrade system for equipment. It isn't about a 'I want everything spoon fed!'. It is we want realistic requirements.
Edit: That being said, I love the game. It's fun for me. The Ground Combat could be better, but most of the game is spent in system/sector space anyway. I have the utmost respect for Cryptic, tackling a project like this is not easy. I am also speaking leveling as in terms of Spec Points, not the 1-60 experience.
On that note, @pwlaughingtrendy , I recall you mentioning a month or two ago about the team were planning some changes to make progression from 50 to 60 be less... slow... Any word on if that's still happening? Or was the introduction of once a week per account spec points on featured episodes the 'solution'?
What I would like to have in my options is an XP throttle in the form of a slider. On the left would be 0%, on the right 100%, with 10% steps in between. With such an option in place Cryptic could increase xp gains to satisfy you who think leveling/ earning spec points is too slow, and I'd be happy because I could use the throttle to slow it down for me. I'd probably have mine set at 30% normally and down to 10% when they have a bonus weekend like the one incomming.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind a slower pace, IF they increased speeds for sector space flight. Crawling across the beta quadrant at warp 5-6 (and in some cases, even at 9.97) it's agonizingly slow and just painfully boring. Doubly so if you can't transwarp to a mission. ie. daily mission locations such as Traelus System - Satellite Repair.
That's one of the biggest complaints I see in sector space zone chat. It's pretty and all, but now it's way too big for low level characters to get anywhere in a reasonable time.

100% agree. The amount of Xp required to 60 from 51 is ridiculous. I got my main to 60 after purchasing tons of skill point boosts. Will not happen again.
I would happily continue purchasing $100 a month in zen if they were to bring the xp needed from 51-60 down to a reasonable level.
