[VIDEOS] This is what happens when i get bored. WARNING! May Contain Junk!

I got bored. It happens. I'm going to try something different...

Priority One Podcasts | Building a Malon Battlecruiser [33 minutes]

So yeah, i hear all the complaints: yada yada AP/FAW Scimitars Online etc... so i decided to take a POS ship and do something i haven't done in a long time. Turn a garbage ship (literally) into a viable PvE boat.

The above video starts from the unboxing and naming of the ship, then gearing up, making her look ugly... setting up the BOffs,DOffs and traits. Then i jump into space and finalizing the power tray and power levels.

After that i go into a couple of Advanced patrols to get the ship mastered, then show off the bridge, and finally I show the ship's fully mastered stats.

---

After that video was completed i continued polishing the build. I switch over to a partigen build instead of flowcaps and took the ship into a couple ISAs. First run was 40k DPS, second run was 47.8K DPS; with still plenty of room to improve.

Here's the interesting part: Star Trek Online - Malon Battlecruiser in ISA gets 47.8k DPS [4 Minutes]

The ISA optimized build can be found here: http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner/?build=mobro4000isadps_5833

A more balanced build can be found here: http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner/index.php?build=mobro4000patroller_5833

Not something I expected. But it was fun to watch. Thanks.

clip proves yet again its the captain that counts not the gear... wait, **** i dont know some pretty epic **** right there

Now if only we could convince the other 99% of people in-game of that. ;)

yup. it's the pilot *polishes fingernails on shirt*

When i say the ship is a POS, i'm referring to it's reputation. There are plenty of ships in the game that have reputations for under-performing.

Not just the ships, even weapons types. As you can see in the video i picked the BioM phasers just for their colour and they still can perform.
Not something I expected. But it was fun to watch. Thanks.

    my pleasure :D

Great video :) It's fun to see "unorthodox" ships get a look in. So many of these vids are of the "de rigueur" ships, it gets boring after a while.

One thing I would like to ask/recommend is that you use VR only Mk XII gear for your builds rather than Mk XIV and Epic's. It can be a bit off putting to see all that "gold" :(

Two questions, looking at the build in the link...

First, what's the use of the multi-conduit relay, other than boosting the iconian rep t4, as I don't see kemocite, neutronic, or any of the usual suspects for the radiation boost.

Second, and i'm sure there's other threads with the math, but both the conductive rcs and exotic particle exciter have power transfer...is there quantification about the effect, or is it just relatively cheap?

Quoted for truth. I very much enjoy watching the videos you, Ryan, and any of the rest of the Wizards make/post.

Also, to piggyback upon the above request, I'd like to see you Wizards fly the ships with gear taken out of the equation (no Mk14 epics (except maybe fleet consoles and not all that you can stuff in them), no lobi stuff, no 20m+ traits, consoles, and DOffs, and definitely way less than 21k zen of traits and DOffs) in an additional segment of the video or a separate video linked in the same post.

The Relay's for the 2pc set bonus, +7.5 Bonus Phaser damage and 2% increased BioMol proc rate.

Can we get some more (canon) KDF outfits, an assortment of respectable skirts/dresses, a long jacket (and more clothes in general) that does plain white well, melee weapon and Mk 15 drops, a T6 Nova, and account-wide lockbox/lobi/promo ships & consoles? Oh, and...

It's there for the 2-set with disruptors. And he runs the Power Transfer consoles for the overcap, which is frustratingly hard to quantify, especially when you run KCB+Assimilated Module.

Thanks, that's partly why i do these vids.

BioM phasers have a radiation proc. Also running the 2p with the Hydrodynamic adds 2% to that proc chance and a 7.5% cat 2 damage bonus to phasers/distrupters (bigger boost than another locator).

Depending on the ship and build i normally just use one of the crafted consoles, normally in conjunction with my spire core. EPS and power transfer rate; how it relates to DPS can get complicated to explain. To put it simple... EPS = DPS.

I dont understand this request. I run with what I have; everything I have is fairly earned via grinding and time spent in the game.

You and others say it's the captain and not the gear that determines performance. I agree; give me your builds in their entirety and I'm sure I wouldn't be able to do half of what you do and the converse should be true as well. The/my request is just to additionally show how a reasonably (and I mean real reasonably, not Bort's version of reasonably from the SS nerf/fix thread) equipped version of the ship with an expert pilot will perform. Just because you or I or many of the active forumites have/could-have-but-haven't ground out maxed BiS (or close to it) equip doesn't mean everyone else has.

Edit: seaofsorrows said it below way better than I did and could have.

I'm not sure what seaofsorrows said but...

I think I see what you are saying here. It would be awesome that the wiz's of sto do something like that.

Considering gear development will automatically develop over time with long term players of sto ... its fun to watch vids like this dont get me wrong, but a valuable lesson can be learnt in how to fly ships with base gear setup with base traits etc ...that would be interesting to see... that is base gear one would have fresh out of lvl 60.

sarcasm when you get bored again please ... Consider a f2p player load out ...base traits of the captain... maybe the few free traits ... the ones u can get through story mission... maybe a single trait of the one ship you would buy as a newbie lvl 60.... epic fleet consoles (those are relatively easy to earn after a few months play and a few extra toons farming ) rep weapons gear crit d 2 crit h 1 mk 14 and reputation deflector shields core eng at mk 12 . plonk this build into a adv isa PUG record the vid.

I understand that this is a gimped build and im sure you wont even have lower end un-upgraded gear anymore but I for one would like to see how someone on the wizard group would handle this in the shady learning phase most newer players face when they dont quite have the gear for advance PUG survival but can still manage 10k plus dps.

How can you use a malon garbage scow without use of at least 1 eject warp plasma.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
