It isn't bad and it is a truly unique science ship. There was a bug that plagued the BOs when "transforming" the ship though which may be why so few people use it. They've simply gone on to other ships.

I have the Tyton class Strategic Dyson Warbird on a sci character due to the upgrade to T5-U giving it 3 - eng, 4 - sci, 4 - tac console configuration along with the Protonic Shield Matrix console.

That gives me a nice mix of sci consoles / tac consoles + a nice defense console if it gets a little too much aggro, overall its a nice ship for that characters playstyle.

It is not a bad ship, I just don't like the investment of Zen to upgrade the C-Store versions. The yearly celebration version (now accessible via fleet rep) is free to upgrade, but just doesn't measure up to the Fleet T6 ships.

I am very fond of the Harpia, the Tactical one, even went T5U on it, she just isn't the daily driver for my Romulans. I just ignore the Tactical Mode.

She is the best of the Dyson ships imo, I bought her and the KDF 3pk, but get more use out of the Romulans one. Between my love of the T'Varo, the Pilot Ships, the Faeht, and now the T6 vet ship, I just don't have a use for her lately.

I like her, I just like other ships more. I would rather use her than a Scimitar, I will say that. Visually she is much better eye candy as well as being more fun for me personally.

I wish the Romulans had a ship that looked like they Dyson Tact Sci Ships, but was closer to the Scryer but with a Romulan Battle Cloak.

Ditch the whole Destroyer aspect and give it a LTC/ Intel hybrid and she would be a mean science warbird, with enough turn rate for Dual Cannons.

The DSDs are viable for both the KDF & Roms for the simple fact that their Science Vessel selection at T5 is awful. I mean, really bad.

    KDF: Veranus, DSDs
    Roms: Ha'nom, DSDs

And that's it. Sure, you can toss in the Temporal Science, but it's very pricey.

For T6? For the KDF & Roms, completely non-existent Science Vessel options. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Jack & ****. And Jack just left town.

My Gorn Science Captain was able to get both KDF Temporal Ships when they came out, so I have always had that luxury.

On the other hand the Dyson ships have cloaks. I didn't bother to T5U any of the KDF Dyson ships, but as I said I did my Harpia.

this thread has me thinking about using in on one of my characters again, maybe my Reman ENG.

No Leets are going to use it because its 4th slot is a non standard energy type preventing any level of min maxing....
Would be ok as a torp boat....

I used to fly it on my Tac Reman...but since DR I haven't played that character much...but I did fly her during the CC event for more dilithium and I did fly it in the process.

The thing with the DSD is that you either set it up as an escort OR sci ship. While that switcheroo gimmick is kinda neat it more often than not screws you over. I'm not saying it's impossible do get a decent hybrid build out of it but in most cases a focused build will yield way better results.

I actually like it as a pure sci ship for my roms and klingons, simply because I don't have much of a choice there, and it does a good job at that. Sure, I'd love some red & green Vesta, Scryer, etc. but we all know it ain't gonna happen....

Also all the changes since it's introduction such as the faction hull material an now the account wide unlock really made it an attractive option.

I use the tac dyson for quite a while now with my Romulan science captain. Initially I wanted to use it as intermediate solution and save up for a palisade or an orb weaver. Now I am very happy with it. It is a proper science vessel, comes with the awesome romulan cloak and singularity abilities, it can equip warbird consoles (e.g. valdore console) and it looks great. The four tac abilities also make it interesting for the ship trait "all hands on deck" I guess.

The bug with the boff seating was fixed a couple of weeks ago.

Building a full play style around it is difficult, but ultimately - when your Cmdr Science ability is on cooldown, there is basically no difference between Tactical and Science mode, except you get access to a Cmdr Tact ability and an extra weapon. Use it for 30 seconds or so and switch back.

Here comes the problem in that being able to turn the tactical mode on takes basicaly too long. So you can basically use this option only every 2 gravity wells (or whatever other power you use for Cmdr Science).

But used purely as Science Vessel - there is not a single drawback to the ship compared to other Science Vessels. Only problem is that it's just Tier 5, but within Tier 5(U)s, the ship can compete with them all.

And the Romulan one has the advantage of looking good, with or without the Dyson Materials. :)

Still one of my favorite ships, I just shifted into T6 stuff to unlock ship traits,
