I am curious to find out if putting a MACO set thru the crafting system offers any significant improvements or would it remain static? I like to look before I leap. :)

All gear benefits by upgrading, weapons especially. Their base values are increased with each Mark increase. Additionally reputation gear has a fixed set of additional mods when it reaches Ultra Rare and Epic quality, so you don't need to worry about randomization.

Edit: took me a moment to find it, link to thread in the R&D Forums regarding fixed mods for specific equipment. List is a bit incomplete but I think there's a spreadsheet floating around somewhere that's got the missing datapoints.

Do you mean upgrading it? If you upgrade, it'll get better stats with each mark, and an additional proc with each rarity level.
