Finish flag - powerboard races

I'm not sure of the point of having to grab a flag after you cross the finish line. Is it to give you one last chance to lose, or what? I've never seen a race that requires you to prove twice that you won a race; once by crossing the finish line, then again by grabbing the flag first. Is this some type of required game mechanic? TY. =)

    It's was done to stop the inevitable complaining about "who came first" due to server lag.

    What YOU see is not necessarily what the server sees, so in a particularly close race, you may think you "crossed the line" first, but in actual fact due to slight errors in server lag, the other guy did.

    The easiest way to avoid this is to have a "clicky". If you have to interact with something, then the game can determine who interacted first, so there is no doubt who won. It's not perfect, and not great, but it DOES work.
