Looking for an efficient way to level up

I've got most of the things I want in this game with regards to gear, the one thing I need more of and which is taking me ages is specialisation points.

Now, with all the nerfs that have hit recently the strategies which used to work don't any more.

I've exhausted the obvious approaches, that is first playthrough on all the story missions. I'm running the doff system (although with the nerfs to the 12-hours-assignments it's much less worthwhile to do so) and I'm also running those PvEs which are fun to play (most of the older ones especially).

I've tried the Dyson space adventure zone but it's not going well for me, considering I can barely move my ships due to all the lag, not to mention even attempting mission completion.

I enjoy playing both space and ground missions, though for EC-grinding I've found space to be a lot more profitable than ground.

My question is this:

What is currently the most effective and efficient way to rack up experience points / specialisation experience? Are there some missions that pay out better than others, taking playing time into consideration?

Difficulty settings seem to make no difference. On higher difficulty NPCs generate more experience points but they also take a lot longer to kill, negating the effect.

The borg red alerts give bonus xp, so these are very worth the time.
You could also grind patrols in Tau Dewa and Delta. Westmetals already named it, choose the ones with many medium sized targets to kill. That is also the reason (Kazon) Argala gives very good xp.
Other than that, I dont farm xp anymore, it comes at times...

First, spec points are intended to be slow and specifically you are not intended to max out though it is possible. Per gecko in a priority one interview, the goal when addingmthem was for players to have the "leveling up" experience forever no matter how much they played.

If I recall correctly he specifically said the intent was a point every day or so for hardcore players but a point a week even casually. Though he wasn't specific on these points.

That said, there are waysmto get them reasonably fast:

#1 go on the auction house and get yourself one of these:
    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Specialization:_Consultant
They are spendy, but helpful. If I recall correctly, you can only have one active.

#2 team up as much as possible.

#3 run patrols, especially delta patrols.

#4 play missions with lots of space combat. Two of the best ones:

    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Mission:_Surface_Tension

    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Mission:_Takedown

These two rack up gobs of exp, are super fast for mastering space ship traits, and you get a pile of energy credits from the vendor trash too. Pure win.

#5 the undine space battlezone is great, except the 5 minute voth invasion bit gives garbage exp because its shared with 14 people not teamed to you. Even ground gives more than that phase on average.

#6 If you have high survivability and damage, and especially if you have a buddy or two, the best "infinite enemies" scenario is to run the voth contested zone tower fights and citadel dreadnaught spawns. Need fast engines to minimize travel between towers though, and too big a team reduces exp because the spawns don't scale as you would hope/expect. Try to get into an otherwise empty instance for maximum voth to kill

This is the best one can do these days? Oh well, I guess there goes the idea of getting several different character builds all up to competitive standards, and then to play them depending on mood.

As soon as anyone finds an 'efficient way to level' word gets out, and back to the devs who nerf the living TRIBBLE out of it...

"You will play as intended... The beatings will continue until moral improves!"

    O.o

Are you pvping or going for the 50k DPs channel? Because other than those two specific scenarios I think your standards for *competitive* are seriously out of whack with reality. Just the 10 spec points you get hitting level 60 is competitive.

Getting one completed specialization is well above anything needed.

With four characters who each put all 10 into different specs you can craft all three training manuals, plus be ready if they decide to make commando a primary.

Pick one and give them all three bonus spec points from the weekly award for the feature episode. Based on the devs numbers/goals in those three weeks you should have another 3-9 points earned from play. That puts you at 21. If you still don't think that's competitive I gota ask, who are you competing with?
