Speculation: T6 Faction Flagship Pack

warmaker001bwarmaker001b Member Posts: 9,205 Arc User
With all the talk and "word" out for T6 Mogai, Avenger/Mogh and a subsequent Defiant/B'Rel/T'Varo set of releases, I think it's time to put this bit of fun speculation:

T6 releases of the Flagships of Starfleet, KDF, Romulans. Anyways, expect a similar 3 pack for each ship to the faction. Maybe even a 9-Ship-Pack-$$$-!!! Anyways, it should be pretty simple to see what they'll get going by past habits of Cryptic:

No changes in weapon setups. None of the lower tiered ships transferred to T6 had a drastic change like weapon setup alterations.

Console Layouts? The same as Fleet T5U.

T6: ALL FLAGSHIPS (Odyssey, Bortasqu', Scimitar)
Ens Universal -> Lt Universal and LtCdr Universal becomes Hybrid Station

Console Sets: All the Flagships have existing, 3 piece console sets. T6 versions will come with a new one, expanding the sets to 4 items with appropriate 4 set bonus. Gut feeling says that the bonuses will be tweaked again on top of the 4 piece bonus expansion.

It really is depressing that they could simply release Fleet versions of all the existing T5-10 ships, and instead of having the Fleet upgrade do the +hull/+shields/+console, just add a 13th boff station instead. Then take that ship, add an upgrade token, and you have the same full 13-seat 11-console +hull/+shield mastery-track ship as any T6 Fleet ship without having to go the full separate C-store purchase. Sadly, simple and efficient rather than overpriced bundles doesn't seem to be the trend these days.

How about something to improve the Bort's turn and inertia...

They will modify the kdf flagship to have a only 3 weapons and a 3 turn rate and wonder why nobody bought it
Should I start posting again after all this time?

If you look at the previous ships that went from lower tier to T6, how they handled, their weapon loadouts, etc were not altered in any appreciable way.

I would not buy a 9-pack - says the guy who recently individually purchased three 3-packs of Pilot ships. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

T6 Scimitar? How about no? Aren't they powerful enough?

When you get down to the heart of it, how EVERY identical ship purchase is going from T1 to T5, and now T6, an "Upgrade" token to take you to T6 compared to a regular ship purchase makes absolutely ZERO difference. STO at no time in its history provided a token to take a low tiered ship to the next with "upgraded stats," despite how easy it sounds to us. STO at no time in its history provided a cheaper way to take a low tiered ship to the next tier. It was always a full purchase.

Taking the Defiant from T4 to T5 never gave you a discount from one tier to the next. It was a new purchase the entire time.

Taking the Intrepid from T4, T5, and now T6, never gave you a discount going from one tier to the next. It was a new purchase the entire time.

Taking the T1 C-Store BOP to T5 B'Rel (they both share the same pool of parts at ship tailor), it never gave you a discount going from one tier to the next. It was a new purchase the entire time.

Taking the T'Varo, Dhelan, Mogai from their lower tiers to T5 never gave you a discount going from one tier to the next. It was a new purchase the entire time.

For the entire history of STO, every single move from one tier to the next was a full purchase if one didn't want the free ships that were available at the shipyard which ended at the Lv40 ones. And people are surprised by this even now?

I am not sure on a flagship pack... The Scimitar really is a completely different class of ship from the Odyssey and Bortas. Though I guess they may just slap a hanger on the other two and call it a day, this is Cryptic.

T6 scimitar with a 4-piece console bonus that upgrades its battlecloak to an enhanced battlecloak.

That would get me playing fairly regularly again.

It makes sense that the Flagships could be the first ships with a truly Universal/UniSpec seat, making them eternally useful with current and future Specializations.

Assuming that they don't first do it with another Promo ship like the JHSS, Sheshar, or Bulwark (which would guarantee them even more money at first, before the stable income of always compatible T6 Flagship bundles).

Console-wise, I'm thinking they'd just upgrade the bonus passives so that they provide more utility; enough to replace a console or two (like the Command Ship 2-pc). If nothing else, they'd be an even better version of the Command Ship 2-pc sets (2-pc was a +15 ResAll and +30% Turn Rate). I'd guess maybe +25 or +30 ResAll and +40% or +50% Turn rate (roughly equivalent to a UR or Epic ResAll RCS console). That would solve the slow turn rate of the Bortasqu while making the Scimitar even more of a gigantic static weapons platform. Odyssey wouldn't benefit as much, but it'd be able to broadside easier at least.

The 3-pc might also further buff the other abilities; Odyssey's would grant use of both the Aquarius and saucer at the same time, with the Aquarius having some Specialist abilities such as spamming Overwhelm Emitters while the Saucer spams Gravity Well and Ionic Turbulence. Scimitar's might cut short the long charge-up of the Thalaron Pulse and give it a bigger burst. And Bortasu's would probably further buff the Bort's own BFG as well as buff B'Rel pet to spam some semi-useful ability (like Tachyon Beam, or Ionic Turbulence, or one of the Pilot abilities).

However, I'd expect they'd do something unique for the Flagships; let them get a special Module slot (a unique Console slot if you will) that lets players give them Specialist abilities like full Specialist ships (currently: Intel Scan, Command Inspiration, and Pilot Maneuvers). So each ship would instead come with one of 3 randomly chosen Specialist Modules (assuming they have a 4th or 5th out by the time they come out with this pack; so that it'd be something other than Pilot Maneuvers).

So for example using current Specializations: The Tac variants would have a Pilot Module granting them Pilot Maneuvers like Pilot ships, Engineering variants would have a Command Module granting them Command Inspiration abilities like Command cruisers, and Sci ships would have an Intel Module granting them Intel Analysis like Intel ships.

Though realistically, there would probably be a more Sci-oriented Specialization; which would result in the Tac variants getting an Intel Analysis Module and Sci variants getting a Sci Spec Module. Of course, it could go the other way; where there's a tankier Tac specialization (let's call it Vanguard; and is the big ship equivalent of the Pilot Specialization, designed to get in and draw aggro and tank), which would replace Pilot Maneuvers on the Tac variant and leave Intel on the Sci variant.

It's a symptom of the whole 'spent the last five years playing max tier at level 50, suddenly the level cap is 60 and our old reliable ships aren't so hot anymore' thing.

Plus $30 per ship is a tad too much. T5 was between $20-25, with the advent of T6 and the level lcap raise they should have normalised all T5 prices to $20 and T6 prices to $25 IMO. Also have all T5 ships available for use at level 40. As it stands you bypass the majority of T5 ships when you hit level 50 if you happen to have T6 ships in your possession.

a t6 bort really does sound like something cryptic would do. it would have the benefit of ensuring very few were sold and justifying the ongoing absence of the t6 BoP

Yeah, that's pretty much their thing. Making a inferior ship for the kfd and complain because nobody wastes money on it. Just look at their latest comment about sci ships...

Why the hell anyone would want that is beyond me. The T5-U version is STILL more OP than many of the T6 ships.

Sadly, I suspect that we'll get a T6 version of the stupid thing at some point, and thus the 300k DPS build will be born.

Its a personal opinion of what I would enjoy playing with, for fun.

I don't think that's gonna happen. Unless they make it intel so it can run several copies of OSS or something like that it won't make a big difference since the T5U scimi pretty much is fleet T6 level except the specialisation and the ship trait.

T7 on the other hand.....give it 2 years from now and we'll probably see it:P

But as for the main topic here, please no more cruiser packs. Remember when this game was called "Escorts Online" back then? Well, we're now at "Cruisers Online".

As a Scimi pilot I wouldn't want it. The only reason I fly it is because it was the best of a bad lot hangar wise for my RR characters when I created them. I like playing hangar/carrier ships as I am better with slow moving ships than fast ones. I have been moving my RR charachters over to the WW Breen carrier. I would like to see some T6 carriers myself but I doubt it will happen.

Like you I can see it coming at some point.

Well, yeah - but to be honest I'd actually argue that we're at 'BFAW Online'.

In retrospect it just jumps from one trend to the next. Remember when A2B was all over the place and was treated as the build of all builds and plasma doping the answer to everything? Glad that settled down.

But since they keep releasing cruisers and destroyers and have no intention of changing the endgame I really don't see the BFAW spam going away any time soon.

Ha, even Escorts are doing the Beamboat thing now! It was long possible before but it was far more niche prior to all this.

Considering that one of the possible upcoming releases are the Avenger/Mogh and Mogai, I was kind of concerned there weren't enough T6 Cruisers. Glad Cryptic settled that. In the KDF, we were running very short of effective Cruisers ;)

    The defiant,

Which is a destroy, which a quick look online makes it sound like is pretty much taking over the cruiser's role at least in the US Navy (seriously they seem to be doing the same jobs), so probably not that different.
    Miranda,

Which in game is a light cruiser, and in the DS9 technical manual a medium cruiser. So its probably a cruiser.
    bird of prey, oberth,

Which is why I said pretty much all of instead of just all of, meaning yeah they do have few not cruisers.
    jellyfish

pretty much a Vulcan hige speed shuttle shuttle.
