I am currently editing my biography for my Klingon Character, trying to add a background and some life to why she is serving the Klingon Empire as a sub-species of the Andorians... the Aenar...

But while im doing that and since ive never really written a biography before for any of my Characters in my games, I was wondering if any one has a good Template or a format of a biography of your own Character(s) that I could use as a rough guide ?

Thanks for any help and looking forward to any help and tips !

Do you mean STOGeek template or for the character bio in game?

My character's bio is blank, as well. I've started to write a bio on several occasions but it always ended up feeling or sounding cheesy to me. Maybe I should start looking around, too.

If, by chance, a Dev reads this, Cryptic needs to give us an option to create our Bios on the website where we can look at our player profile under the "My Characters" or "Captain Database" under the "Community" tab on the main STO page.

With Fed's I like to make the Bio more about personal history with a bit of career at the end.

With Klingon's I like to make the Bio more about career history with a bit of Personal at the beginning. (Though I haven't really got that far in KDF as I can't be asked with the PVP queues).

seems like alot of work. why not just right a short story about his or her murky past. Something about tribble smuggling or vaporizing a planet....

I've tried this, but like I said, mine always seemed to end up sounding cheesy or just unbelievable. I also tried to avoid the over-used idea of my character being "promoted to captain faster than any previous captain in Starfleet." I've seen that one quite a few times.

Here's the Bio I came up with for my STO Main, Alexander "Alex" Yamato:

    DOB: July 2, 2385
    Age: 24
    Homeworld: Earth
    Hometown: Tokyo, Japan

Given up for adoption immediately after he was born, Alexander "Alex" Yamato was adopted by Starfleet Officer Haruma Yamato and his wife, Caridad.

Alex followed in his father's footsteps and joined Starfleet, entering the Academy at the youthful age of 18 and graduating only three years later at the age of 21!

Soon after joining Starfleet, Alex was assigned to the Rapier-Class USS Murasame when it joined other Starfleet vessels in repelling a Borg attack on the Vega Colony. The Murasame lost most of its Command Staff in the fight, leaving Alex as the senior ranking officer. Alex took command and demonstrated incredible ability, and Starfleet gave him permanent command of the Murasame.

Soon afterwards, Alex met the Vulcan T'Marin, a Starfleet Lieutenant who became his XO. At first, Alex thought she was just like any Vulcan--cold and unemotional, although she lacked the accompanying arrogance. However, after spending some time with her, Alex managed to discover that T'Marin actually did let her emotions show when she was around people she trusted, and Alex became good friends with her.

After about six months, Alex started getting assigned frontline missions against the Klingon Empire. On one such mission against a Klingon Research Facility, T'Marin was almost killed, and Alex began to realize his feelings for her ran deeper than friendship. He eventually determined that he had fallen in love with T'Marin, and confessed his feelings to her on their way back to spacedock. Alex was pleasantly surprised when T'Marin returned his affections, and the two officially became a couple, getting married a few months later.

Alex now fights on the front lines in the USS Maelstrom, a state-of-the-art Fleet Escort, and he does his best to protect his friends, his family, and especially T'Marin, his beloved wife.

I hope the Bio is a good read, and that it provides some good ideas for a format. :D:cool:

Things that need to be covered in your bio:
Name, Age, hair color, pants size, reason for joining Starfleet, reason for leaving Starfleet, what you did after you left Starfleet (unless it took place on planet Vegas), reason for rejoining Starfleet, name of your ship, reason you didn't end up on a good ship like the Enterprise, how much bacon you eat every day, favorite drink, least favorite crewmember, weapon choice, reason why you are the most awesome Captain ever, justification for the crappy name you picked out for your ship, background on your alien species that looks totally gross, and finally any awards/commendations you are claiming to have made.

I don't use DOB or a final/current age., because the game timeline/stardates are very spratical (also I want from Ensign to RA in less than 2 weeks, which will TRIBBLE with any Bio realism).

Here's two of mine if they help.

    1. Kaine - Klingon Male Tac.

He was born during the Klingon-Cardassian war aboard a frontline Bird of Prey. His House was in disfavour with the Empire, so it was decided that the homeworld was not safe and he would stay on the Bird of Prey, which was completely run and crewed by members of his House.

A year later the Klingon-Cardassian war ended with the birth of the Dominion War, the Bird of Pray was immediately sent once more to the frontlines. 6 months later the Bird of Prey was found dead in space by a Federation cruiser. The 1 and 1/2 year old was only survivor, the Jem'Hadar had boarded the Bird of Prey and killed the crew in close combat, but he was well hidden away by his mother.

The Federation tried to give the boy back to the Empire, but his House was dead and no one wanted to take in member of a dis-favourable dead house. So the Federation made him a Federation citizen, put him in their orphan program and even gave him a name, as no one new his original one.

Kaine as he was now known was adopted by a Vulcan woman, T'nai, who decided it was the logical thing to do, as she had lost her own husband and son to the Dominion War.

T'nai educated Kaine like a Vulcan child but did not teach emotional control, she decided it would be illogical since Klingons are an emotional race. However she did teach a strong degree of self control so that Kaine could rule his ever fiery temper, rather than it rule him. T'nai also had Kaine trained early and highly in Vulcan, Klingon and Starfleet martial arts, Klingon melee weapons and even marksmanship, foreseeing the future usefulness.

At 18 Kaine joined Starfleet Academy, 4 years later he graduated a full tactical officer.

Kaine got his scar in a Bat'leth fight to the death with a Da'har master on Regulus IV.

After a long career of 4 commands and stopping countless (classified) threats to the Federation, Kaine has been promoted to Rear Admiral. The Admiral however does not have a desk based career like most, instead he stays on the front lines.

    2. Noi - Joined Trill Female Sci.

Emiria Siruro was born on Trill. From a young age she had a keen interest in how things work, this included the workings of humanoid bodies, which in turn lead her down the path of medicine. Emiria applied to Starfleet Medical Academy and after a few exams was accepted. She spent the next 5 years of her life studying, training and practising under watchful eyes of real Medical Doctors, until she finally became one herself. Emiria then chose to take a position at Starfleet Medical. During her free time over the years Emiria also learnt quite allot about starship engineering and a large field of sciences, even sneaking into a few classes over at Starfleet Academy, which got her in small bit of trouble, though it quickly went away as Starfleet couldn't fault her for wanting to learn more.

The Noi symbiote had 9 hosts before Emiria, 7 of which were Starfleet Officers of varying fields. The last was Commander Rozon Noi second Officer aboard the U.S.S. Fontier.

Emiria was aboard U.S.S. Fontier as passenger on her way home to Trill in the Kalandra sector, when it was attacked by a Jem'Hadar battleship. The Fontier won the fight destroying the battleship but was heavily damaged, including both the warp engines and communications array. Commander Rozon was was critically injured in the attack and despite all efforts of the Fontier's Doctors died. The Noi symbiote however survived, barely. It was hoped that the ship would be fixed and make it to Trill before the symbiote died, but this was not the case, the symbiote took a turn for the worse. Emiria not wanting the symbiote to die and being the only Trill aboard decided to join with it.

Emiria took a year out from Starfleet Medical on Trill to get used to being joined as she had not received any of the training normal joined Trill go through, as she never really had any interest in being joined. After her new personality stabilized Emiria rejoined Starfleet Medical to continue her career but this time on a Federation Ship.

Depends on what you define as "work". Like me, I enjoy writing backstories almost as much as I enjoy playing.

Hey dammit, why pick on the awards and promotions. As long as it isn't the Medal of Valor (seriously folks, that's like the Starfleet version of the Medal of Honor, or the Victoria Cross), and someone doesn't go way overboard with them, a couple awards and a medal is good and probably even likely.

    first...

Thank you all for all of your Great Replys ! lots of good ideas and options !

I ened up making a Bio/Sotry... a Farly long one lol then found out the game Character Sheet Bio only supports 355 Charters... so I had to do alot of editing to make it fit....

seems like alot of work. why not just right a short story about his or her murky past. Something about tribble smuggling or vaporizing a planet....

I sort of went on about her past and how she was kidnapped by the Empire and earned respect within the Empire to Command her own Ship... since she isnt quite a normal Klingon since I made her a Andorian sub-species called the Aenar

Solah Azanabal Formally known as Mirra Shira was born on Andoria in 2327. Sold into slavery at the age known of the coming (18 earth years) Life continued to be hard while the Empire ruled with an iron fist. Most of the lesser race were looked down upon, member or not. To cross the Empire would mean death, an "example" as they called it. During the time she spent in slavery she would escape her master over, and over only to be beaten for it. One such escape the slave master took a cattle iron and branded her on the back of her neck. Claiming "if she wants to act like animal, she should be treated like one". Never the less it did not deter her from trying again. This time after the beating she receive, she went on the offensive and drove the branding iron thru his neck. Knowing what she did meant death she ran.

On the run for 4 years living in war ravaged buildings eating what she could, she found herself to weary to
walk. Taking refuge in a barn were sleep claimed her... Waking to find herself staring into the eyes of a blue-eyed
lady. In panic she attempted to run only to be told she need not worry about doing so.. As time went on she found
herself opening up to this person who name Amanda Chan Keogh only to find out shes a Captain in the Empire.. Told her stories of how she and a handful of other officers are attempting to halt O'Brien mad plan.
Gaining trust and respect Mirra changed her name out of backlash and joined the Empire. Working her way thru the ranks to Lt. Commander while on board I.S.S. Odyssey.

However, on the day the plan was to be put into effect while in fleet formation for the invasion. The plan was
discovered and the fleet turned an attack the ships involved. Bluegill threw Solah into an escape pod and told her as
the hatch closed Warn Star-fleet over there tell them O'Brien's plan. Then the pod ejected Solah turned to watch the
Odyssey be destroyed just as she entered the vortex. "I will do as you asked, nor will I forget you"

    Amanda "Bluegill" Chan Keogh

Born: 2336 on the tropical world of Risa
    Parents:
    Father: Commander: Declan Odan Keogh
    Mother: Reneea Chany Keogh
    Brother: Bright James Keogh

Joined Star-fleet 2352 There she studied Engineering, star shipbattle tactics, and undertook classes for diplomatic situations.upon completion of the first few years of star-fleet she showed great understanding, and ability to react quickly to a situation. Earning the respect of most of her peers and command staff gaining rank of Lieutenant faster then anyone had thought possible. She and another student, Lt. T'eris given the honored opportunity for active field studies, on board the USS Kyushu in late 2366 (Dec 31).

However, these studies would be cut short. The USS Kyushu, and a task force of thirty-nine other star ships.
Under the Command of Admiral Hanson, were ordered to Wolf 359 to engage a Borg cube on course to Sector 001 (Earth). The resulting battle would be the worse defeat at that time the Federation has ever known.

One by one each of the star ships were Obliterated. Out of the forty star ships that took part in the armada, only one survived. Eleven thousand crew members lost their lives that day. Lt. Keogh and Lt. T'eris along with fifty-five others made it into the escape pods, and were able to escape the stricken ship moments before the core had breached.
Several month would go by before she received her next posting. During that time she finished her 4th term years
of star fleet academy, and remained at earth. Working closely in the intelligence department improving ways for future engagements with he Borg.
In mid 2368 she sent word to star fleet requesting to attend Command school special
operations. During late 2369 she was posted to star base 74 Orbital facility around the planet of Taras III. Where she
received in field officers training...(....Files deleted by unknown user...)

    Bright "Professor" James Keogh

Born: 2339 on the planet of Betazed.
    parents:
    Father: Captain: Declan Odan Keogh
    Mother: Reneea Chany Keogh
sister: Amanda "Bluegill" Chan Keogh (Currently commanding start ship Odyssey-A)

Bright joined Star fleet in 2358 to study star ship battle tactics. During the fourth year he unlike his sister
was on earth during the Borg attack of 2366..The reports that fluttered it sent him into rage after finding out about
the destruction of the Kyushu. The very ship his sister was given field training on..Only later would he find out
that she manged to escape the destruction of the ship. After talking to his sister, and reading T'eris report, did he
understand the horrors star fleet faced from the Borg.

Having a mind set of what the threat the Borg pose he intensified his studies .. Upon completion of his
studies at starfleet academy he was assigned at the Utopia ship yards. There he was involved in work on the new
Defiant class warship designed to battle the Borg. However the Borg threat became less of threat by 2367. Giving away to a more formidable threat was looming and it would have a personal impact on Bright and Amanda's lives.

In 2370 The Star ship Odyssey under the command of Declan Odan Keogh. Was lost in the gamma Quadrant, after encountering the Jem Ha'dar, members of the Dominion. This loss was deeply felt when he had to relay the news to his sister. Whom was still recovering from losses at wolf 359. Ten years of war have passed and yet, that day still stands out. Now he stand ready to face anything that stands against the Federation.

    Raquel "Mel" Camel McCormick

    Born: 2298
    parents: Unknown
What information that is known is sketchy at best. It is believed that she is not Vulcan, but an Alpha Halanan
(Genetically modified telepath). Somewhere around 2307, she joined the Terran Empire and saw extensive action under the command of Captain Marks.
On star-date 45374.1 while posted on board the ISS Nelson, then Ensign McCormick led a small group to extract Admiral Brown whom was held on Betazed by the The Alien Brotherhood. With overwhelming odds against her she was able to rescue Brown and capture several terrorist as well. Brown was thankful he granted Raquel rank of full LT. She was also rewarded with the Captain Kirk medal of valor, purple heart, and the star-cross.

Lt McCormick would continue under the command of Marks until the battle of Nova Prime. Here the Nelson was part of a task force under the command of Nora Satie. The task force was engaged by an Alliance fleet of Klingon and
Cardassians warships. Marks was killed in the opening phase of the battle and Cmdr Blaine was shown lacking in combat skills. Forced to take action Raquel assumed command and continued the fight.

Although the battle was won the Nelson was to heavily damaged and was abandon then later destroyed by the ISS
Lexington. After hearing the reports from the Nelson crew Satie field promoted Raquel to Admiral. Which her first order of business was, to have Cmdr Blaine placed in a Agonizer booth, for her personal sanctification!
She had the settings adjusted allowing him to suffer slowly for a week before death. His punishment was displayed in the mess hall across from the capts table. It's example carried a lasting effect upon the rest of the crew.

"Failure is met with punishment, victories are reaped with riches beyond anyone's belief!"

On star date 49327.1 the ISS Conquest was in pursuit of a ship under the command of the renegade Solah Azanabal, after a brief exchange of fire. At last reports both ships were lost near the badlands. Contact with the ISS Conquest was lost and the ship and crew where abounds remain unknown!

"Thanks for rejoining us after those messages, I'm still your host, Samantha Mayhew. Joining me now in the studio, is Fleet Captain Marcus Kane, who has just come from a meeting with the Federation Council to officially instate the provisionally accepted membership application from the Pentaxian Dynasty. Captain, thank you for taking the time to join us, can I begin with some simple questions?"

"Of course, what would you like to know?"

"Your middle name is Darren, is it not?"

"No, it's actually Darien -- Da-ree-en -- I believe it's a family name going back a few hundred years on my father's side..."

"Ahh, I understand your fifty third birthday is approaching? You're looking very young for a man of your age,"

"Well, Grandma Lara looked about forty when she was actually in her sixties, I guess good skin runs in my family,"

    "And jet black hair?"

"No, that's just a trick of the light... it's actually very dark brown, I get it from grandpa Alex's side of the family,"

"And at your last uniform fitting, you were taking a?"

"Fourty four chest with sixteen collar, thirty two waist, oh, and size eleven boots."

"Well, you know what they say about men with big feet..."

"Uh, yes, Samantha, we wear big shoes,"

"And what was your reason for joining Starfleet?"

"Is it wrong if I was to say family pressures?" Marcus asked. "I've always been fascinated by anything mechanical, and engineering was an automatic career choice for me. That I wound up in a command capacity, is something I never expected when I first enrolled at the academy, I thought I'd be slaving away over a warp core while better minds dealt with the big decisions."

"May I ask your reason for leaving Starfleet?"

"I didn't actually resign, I simply took a leave of absence. I'd suffered a recent bereavement -- my twin sister, Alix -- and I needed time to clear my head, re-evaluate my priorities, I considered the Folu Monastery on Vulcan, where I spent most of my formative years, the best place to do that."

"And that had nothing at all to do with a court-martial?"

"No, that was strictly procedural due to my proximity to my sister's death. Could we move on to another topic?"

"Of course, Captain, my apologies, I don't mean to pry. What you did after you left Starfleet?"

"As mentioned, I returned to Vulcan, and began giving classes in the ka'athyra for some of the local children."

    "That's the Vulcan...harp?"

"My apologies, yes, the Vulcan harp."

"That's an interesting choice of instrument for a Human,"

"My mother insisted I take piano lessons as a child. When I moved to Vulcan, I found playing the instrument held too many unpleasant memories, and the more I learned of the Vulcan way, I found myself drawn to the ka'athyra. Madame T'Sek was an exceptional tutor, and I thought it only fitting to pass on her teachings while staying on Vulcan."

"So what was your reason for rejoining Starfleet?"

"Two of my academy mentors asked that I command the shakedown cruise for the USS Akira," Marcus explained. "Their level of interest in my career made me feel somewhat obligated to accept the assignment, rather than remaining on Vulcan. Looking back, I somewhat wish I had."

    "Remained on Vulcan?"

"Yes. Life would have been -- simpler..."

"And you're now in command of the USS Endeavour, is there a... well, this is a rather silly question, Captain, I don't think our research interns really put forth their full effort..."

Marcus nodded reassuringly, "That's alright, go ahead, Samantha,"

"Well, they have written 'What is the reason you didn't end up on a good ship like the Enterprise?'..."

Were it not for Marcus' Vulcan training, he would have laughed.

"The command crew of the Enterprise has always been something of a constant," he replied. "Captain Picard has good officers serving under him, and clearly has no plans to take on a more administrative position at Command, so that rather makes the Enterprise a somewhat closed option for officers above a certain rank, and of course, Captain Picard is well known for taking on junior officers and giving them the opportunity to flourish. As the Sovereign-Class USS Endeavour was constructed at the same time as the Sovereign-Class Enterprise, I'd have to say I wound up where I could best serve. How much recreational time are you giving your interns?"

"Clearly too much, Captain, I am sorry... If it's okay with you, I'm going to go now to some questions we've had come in from our viewers during the course of the show?"

Marcus nodded, "By all means, I'd love to hear them."

"This one is from Tiffany, age nine, in Albuquerque, and she asks: 'how much bacon you eat every day'?"

"To be honest, probably more than is healthy for most men of my age," Marcus admitted.

"The next question is anonymous, but the signal route seems to have come from Deep Space Nine, and asks, 'what is your favorite drink?',"

"Well, following my mission to the Pentaxian Dynasty I do actually have a new favorite, I'll send you the details, Quark."

"Illandra, nineteen, from Betazed asks 'who is your least favorite crewmember?',"

"Well, it would hardly be professional for me to give public comment on a junior officer's performance, but, in any situation, there will always be those who need a little more help than others, and my door is always open."

"Janek from Bolius asks, 'what is your particular weapon choice?',"

"Early in my career, I was gifted a Klingon tajtiq by one of my mentors, it's always served me well. I prefer the blade profile over that of the mek'leth as it's easier to conceal and produces a smoother draw."

Samantha nodded and looked back down to her PADD.

"Tiffany in Albuquerque has written back, and asks 'what is the reason why you are the most awesome Captain ever?',"

"That's very kind of you, Tiffany," Marcus said. "I would have to say the support of my crew, I couldn't do half of what I do without them. If you ever decide to join Starfleet, you'll come to understand that."

"Garn from Tellar, writes 'justification for the crappy name you picked out for your ship',"

"Well, that's not really a question, Garn, but I had no say in the naming of the Endeavour or the Akira, I was simply assigned to command them, and did so to the best of my ability."

"This one is from Zeni, a Gallamite, 'background on your alien species that looks totally gross',"

"Again, not really a question, but my species originates on Earth, and we have several colony worlds throughout the Federation. We all look a bit different to each other, and indeed, our skulls are not transparent which must look rather strange to you, but we're all just people."

"And finally, B'tark writes 'any awards/commendations you are claiming to have made?'"

"I've never really been one for parading awards, but as the question as been asked, in the course of my career, I've been awarded the Christopher Pike Medal of Valor, the Karagite Order of Heroism, the Prentares Ribbon of Commendation, the Star Cross, the Starfleet Extended Tour Ribbon, the Starfleet Medal of Honor, the Zephram Cochrane Engineering Development Award, and I have a doctorate in engineering..."

"Well, thank you for your time, Captain, safe travels,"
