I'd have to agree that this would be very useful. Have used mine now, and am not overly concerned about that; but have to say that the items available to purchase would have been of greater benefit to one of my other characters rather than the one I had to use them on.
What is "useful" to you reduces Cryptic's profit margin.....
The whole reason they retired pearls is to get you to buy stuff with dollars....
could you please make the Risian Lohlunat Pearls account bound or the specialisations points account bound?
I'm the same opinion cause every year the pearls was the same and now that the change the offical event currency it would be a fair thing to make them account bound cause we where loyal to the games and events and now we will be force to start again at zero at each event !:(
Consider yourself lucky they gave you something to do with the pearls at all. They could have done like they did with the ships and just taken them away. They're just data, afterall. They could have just been deleted from your inventory.
On the surface it seems like a reasonable request.
But I don't think it's in Cryptic's interests to do it.
1. The event ship rewards will be account-wide going forward, so there is no need for an account-wide currency to obtain them.
2. Making the event currency account-wide would enable the very thing Cryptic is trying to prevent, which is to leverage alts to increase rewards more than they intended.
If, for example, they were to make the existing pearls account-bound most people would not benefit from that very much. But consider someone who's amassed hundreds of pearls on each of several alts. They would be able to consolidate those to spend on spec points for a main and leap ahead of everyone else in completing the spec trees. This is not what Cryptic intended. It gets even worse if you consider the possibility of a store for future unspent event currencies.
3. The pearl turn-in may be a one-time thing and future event currencies won't offer it. (Though the unspent Q-pics and Qmendations from this past year might also see a turn-in store)
4. The pearls themselves are being retired and are intended to phase out of the game. There's not much benefit to making them account-wide, compared to the potential for abuse.

Making the CURRENCY account-wide would be a bad idea. Making the alternative prizes account bound would be nice. I'm not going to make a dramatic call for that aside from saying that playing for 30 days on an alt for 5 spec levels on a main seems only a BIT disproportionate to me.
I think the way the game has gone, alts do need to be able to benefit one another or a "main".
The currency being accountwide would have the problems you suggest. Making all of the items for sale at the buyback store accountwide seems more reasonable to me.
It's in Cryptic's interests for the event zone to look busy and full. Now that event ships are account wide, you will see less alt activity in event zones UNLESS you have the alternative non-ship rewards be account transferable.
Again, not saying the CURRENCY should be account bound. Just saying that it would boost or help maintain alt activity in event zones to make the crafting and spec point bundles BOUGHT WITH seasonal currency into account bound items.

Can the spec points be the boxed featured episode type so non-insane-grind-to-get-to 60s can turn their Q-stuff in for them?
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I'm not seeing a lot of difference between making the currency account-bound and all of the things the currency buys being account-bound, other than the fact that currency can be easily consolidated while items generally can't.
Spec points are, in essence, another numeric just like currency and XP. If they were account-wide, it would be ridiculously easy to consolidate them onto one character and lead directly to the scenario I already described. The "haves" would get a huge jump on the "have-nots".
I do get that without the ability to consolidate, people with fewer amounts per character can't accumulate meaningful amounts of it. I also had the experience of wanting to use pearls for spec points, but the only character I had with left-over pearls wasn't level 60 and couldn't buy them. I couldn't even buy a box that I could open later.
There are definitely good reasons to be able to consolidate from a player's perspective. Unfortunately, it also opens a can of rancid gagh that Cryptic has to take into consideration whenever they do things like this.

If the currencies are to be retired each year wouldn't that give a reason to keep grinding the event each year after getting the ship as the metrics demand?
Perhaps people grinding multiple alts through 30 day events to get spec points might get the point across that the endless spec point grind for endless specs is just too slow if you're doing anything but grinding Argala or its du jour equivalent.

the only thing that disappoints me is it looks like they will not be offering the same items at the same time for anyone holding winter/anniversary currency's.
it seems a bit odd to make us wait another 6 months or longer to convert these redundant tokens for something useful, that's assuming we will get the chance at all and cryptic wont decide not to reward us for these saved tokens.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
I'd definitely like to see the pearls changed to account bound. They no longer serve their original purpose. I have exchanged the pearls I had stored but have found I am left with odd numbers of unusable pearls across the characters on my account. It would be nice if I could consolidate these and put them to use.

Indeed, pretty much this. I have 6 active toons, 5 of which existed at the time of the previous summer event, and all of them combined had a total of 4800 pearls. that comes out to a lot of spec point that could be applied to a single toon.

I think the consolidation is actually a fairly huge deal here. Account bound currency means someone could load up on alts and do everything in one day.
Account bound rewards mean that the ship will take 30-ish days regardless, which preserves the most important design.
Nobody can get the ship without participating in the intended way if the rewards and not the currency are account bound.

is it not possible to make the old currency pearls account bound to help players who might have odd numbers they want to consolidate while still keeping the new currency what ever that might be character bound to avoid running the mission for the next ship on multiple characters and funnelling the currency to one character in an effort to get the ship sooner then intended.
it does not effect me as I have none but I really cant see why there should be a problem with this.
