I heal player ships all the time and I can't say there has ever been a whole lot of "thanks!" for it. That's generally because in space combat people have other things in mind, such as not exploding (and with certain abilities, like tac/eng/sci teams and aux to structural, its almost impossible to tell who in fact healed you if there are several allies within 10km.)
Reviving people in ground is another matter. I still get "TY" all the time for that (probably because people A. have time and B. can't be mistaken about who did it).
In any case though, I wouldn't be too bothered about the lack of stated "appreciation." Helping people in game is about helping them. The reciprocal benefit should be knowing that you were helpful (ie. that you were more of a benefit to this small part of life than a hindrance). If they recognize that, then hey all the better. But if not don't get hung up on a wounded ego (it shouldn't be involved in the first place.)

I heal others quite a bit as i speed tank and never get hit. The only one i get "TY" from is hazards. They know i sent it too them via the animation. ET does not and looks like the eng team skill animation sometimes they dont even know they were healed.
I have also got a "TRIBBLE off jerk" a few times while healing others. Some people hate being healed as they go for the tac "go down fighting" and someone healing them makes that harder. I tend to wait until 20% or lower before sending a heal unless i know they will need it before.
Also in space i have to admit... people are too busy spamming to have time to offer a "TY" The battles are not "target their engines" and bam they are disabled. Its more... press the spacebar... press the spacebar... press the spacebar... Its hard to type in chat while keeping that going.
I've gotten a heal or two in red alerts, but there people are finishing them as fast as possible then warping out. I can't easily stop playing to type without being left behind and there is no post-alert chat.
But thanks, whoever it was that kept my escort from blowing up
If PUGs used voice chat and it could be used without trolling and buffoonery then I could talk and fly. Maybe I need a mouse button "ty" assignment
I tend to throw out heals when I have them spare and someone is in dire need of them and/or I need them alive for whatever reason. If I realise I've had heals thrown my way when I need them I tend to throw out a "Thanks for the heals" at the end of the game although that is usually lacking when people throw them at me while I'm at 40-60% hull, I usually still have things well in hand then so it's mostly a wasted heal that they then need in a few seconds but I don't have available for them.
when my hull is healed, i always write: ty or thx; because i can see who healed me. but when it is a "shield heal", most of the time i don't know who healed me.
Out of 495 potential characters that could have crosshealed...

Can't speak for others, of course, but I've personally given up on expecting a thank-you, after sending ppl a heal, a long time ago. I simply understand (from my own experience) why they often can't. And, on a more fundamental note, I believe helping others, with the expectation of being thanked, just tends to lead to hurt feelings (to wit: see start post).
Does a healer thank the dps for doing dps? Why do some heals/tanks expect thanks for doing their role? "Thanks tank, super glad you tanked that stuff, great job on doing what you were supposed to."
If I get outside healing its because I'm pugging and have all the aggro while simultaneously doing more dps than the other 4 players combined.

Actually, I *have* gotten the occasional 'Thx for the DPS!" message!
On a whole, though, (in PUGs) people thank others not for fulfilling their role, but for showing their willingness to be part of a team (other than just being grouped together). In a PUG, that's relatively rare; so, when heals and such happen, I often like to acknowledge the fact (even though I don't always have the opportunity to do so).

pardon! I was not talking about dps..
mind you i'm just in a guardian helping, but my dps it not bad, and trust me i'm in the 50k club with other ships.
Now, to not disappoint my fans a bit of elitist attitude: For the rare instance, that I am not the tank of the instance (which usually mean I take all three roles in the team), which usually only happens on my 30k sci recluse (because thats the only ship I can slot enough -TH-Consoles to offset my dps), I distribute heals only if players are worth something.
Now, what is worth. Worth is either high dps or high CC/intellegent CC. Yes, I heal Sciships if they do well with their jobs. Its at least as important as dps (and in pugs due to the absense of heavy dps even more). I must admit, I find it kind of amusing if a 5k Vesta solos a side in CSA better than a 20k scimi. Though I hope that 5k was just a hickap, since the vesta (even with Aux-DHCs and a torp) can do so much more.
People that contribute less than the minimum, mostly flying off and engaging enemies far before the time... that would be a waste of heal.
P.S.: Of course that heal is not entirely out of the goodness of my heart. It reduces my photonic fleet and enhances my TBR/GW
it used too be when helping others in game, in team chat there was a ty etc.

If you use auto fire you cant heal anyone !!!

I think from now on I'll make more of an attempt to keep an eye out for those angelic blue HE beams.
But most people nowadays do not even put a simple "gg" after a run.
