I had assumed that from now on (mainly from dev communication), STO would be doing less seasons per year and compensating with an expansion each time. Now I've noticed no mention at all of resources on an expansion this year so does that mean the idea has been dropped? Does anyone have any more solid information?
Interesting if there is no 2015 expansion, given the reception and impact Delta Rising had on the game.
if there was an expansion or another large content point i would expect it between october to december. it seems like its on course for that time frame. and i would bet my entire right arm that they already have this whole thing in early build stages by now.
cryptic have been putting out a lot of content recently, i cant see any reason why they wouldnt put something big out before the end of the year. but for sure, the 50th is a special event and it should be commemorated as such when the time comes. maybe an expansion comes? who knows.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Based on what Geko said in his last P1 interview, Season 11 will likely be out in October... so, my guess is that they'll launch the next expansion around this time next year (April-June window).
They normally follow a release/three months/release pattern... so, Season 10/three months/10.5/three months/Season 11/three months/11.5/three months/Expansion 3.
"Expansion" is whatever Cryptic calls an "Expansion" ... afaik "S9" had more (Story) Content than "Delta Rising" ... if there is going to another Expansion it's probably "Cardassian Patrols Rising" :P (+ maybe T7 Ships & 3-4 new Spec. Trees)
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
t7 ships are 40 dollars or 80 as a 3 pack bundle, you can upgrade your tier 6 ships and they will still be competitive with the IWIN console tier 7 ships, regardless if they have the console or not.
Considering the year is nearly half over and there hasn't been any mention of it...I'd say odds are no. If they were to rush out a expansion this fast it would probably be horrible.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
No, enough bugs from the last 3 years still plague the game. Still hope they finally dedicate a season to fixing the game's bug problem.
bugfixes don't sell, despite what some people want to claim.
if there was a season with "nothing new at all! no new items to buy, no new story to play, just regular maintenance! but it's a feature now", i could see cryptic lose a lot of profits as whales get bored of no new content for over half a year and leave, and all they're left with is a bunch of non paying customers who can't even buy zen off dil exchange because the whales no longer refill it.
best place to throw in bugfixes is into the half seasons that remake stuff, so i'm guessing 10.5 which will likely redo cardassian episodes could have some fixes. or not, since fixes are coming out as they're fixed during weekly maintenance days.
Now clowns, that's another story. They scare the crap out of me.
We fight them too. Entire armies spilling out of Volkswagens.
We do our best to fight them off, but they keep sending them in.
They better make it a good one, not another crappy grind system on top of the existing ones. Or it will simply drive more players away, and perhaps more Layoffs at Cryptic
*Hint hint Geko*
If you love this game as much as you say you do, you would realize how much you ruined the game you 'love'.
People dont want grind TRIBBLE. They want to buy ships and look cool, thats it. Play new content. But not that grind TRIBBLE that is required for you to 'become' better. Why cant you guys focus more on visual ship modifcations rather than a cheap texture on a ship with a specific gear piece and focus on the awesomeness of the stats?
I dont get it. Isnt Pay2win model supposed to be a choice of grind versus pay? I still need to grind and put a serious amount of time in my toons (only 3 left now, i pretty much decided to retire the rest) the worst thing is, I CANT even pay to get it done quicker even if i WANTED to.
*Hint hint Cryptic*
Where's the instant level 60 token? Where's the instant rep token? where's the instant spec token?
I'd gladly pay for all of this so i can leave this pathetic grind behind me.
Anyway, it makes no sense at all. How much systems will we have in a few years?
Skill tree, Reputation, R&D, Innate species traits, space traits, ground traits, rep traits, doff passives, specialization, more specialization, .... Its becoming quite a mess. Why did Cryptic want to get rid of the dozens of different currencies back in pre season 4? We had Merits, 10 different medal of valors or wahtever they were called, we had Cstore credits, we had EC, we had GPL, all in all some 20 different currencies. They decided to get it back to a minimum, and on the other hand they add all kinds of new TRIBBLE that could all be covered under 1 or 2 different systems.
I really hope they see what implications this has on the playerbase, after the steady decline of players since Delta Rising. Even if it is the BEST season ever and the players STILL love it.
They still have to cope with a halved playerbase, at least.

Enh... they seem to want to surprise people so... they might wait until only a month or so before release to start advertising.

The reason they got rid of all the old currencies is so they could add new variables to the game. Now you have tac/sci/eng/com/pil/int officers and abilites how many new variables is that to store?
The real question should be what content are they going to get rid of next?

That may be but I get the impression that the effort involved makes it a 12-18 month process (which is, curiously, similar to WoW's expansion target cycle -- although WoW always ends up pushing things back to closer to 18-24 months).
I'd think closer to 18 is likely unless they just label a season patch an Expansion. But it might be 18-24 this go around because Cryptic/PWE had some layoffs tied to general belt tightening. (I think we lost Matt Miller in the last round.)

But... Cryptic never tells us when they start on things like this. Maybe they really did start on it last year?
Since this is rng country I'm betting there will be 7 more chapters in this current arc filled with "on paper" powerful goodies which we will all play. Then a major turn of events .... And a new foe will raise its head and cannons will be the new meta. .... Who knows lolol

Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!

Have to figure that would be around the time. Tapping into the 50th Anniversary thing...tapping into the next movie thing...all those various things.
Could even see S11 and S12 happening...so that S13 becomes the next expansion - 13th season, 13th movie.
Yadda, yadda, yadda...

You just had to throw out all of your T5 ships recently...
You would have to be a complete idiot to not want to tap into the movie promo
This. Not to mention the lag...
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
Another ?? The way I see it we have only had 1, LOR and a big update DR. We are due a Expansion and players will Love it.
that's why we need T7 ships

And I mean a real war, not a scripted curbstomp battle where everything allied that isn't your character's ship explodes in one hit.
Next season I guess will be September.
The next one will probably be January and it will be absolutely terrible.
Expansion 3 will most likely show up a month before the movie (if they are smart).
And that will be the last expansion
