There were ones that I guess were removed because they were too easy, some where all you'd need to do was touch a few glowing objects and you got a fortune in ec, dil, experience. These are gone right>

They made a change a long time ago that missions must have over 20 plays and I think be at least 30 minutes long to qualify for dilithium rewards. The repeatable daily mission that you can also get definitely requires that you be in the foundry mission for 30 minutes to qualify as completed.
So basically, if you want to use the foundry as a source of dilithium, play spotlight missions or anything with the yellow text that makes it qualify for a dil reward - these should all be <30 minutes. But more importantly, play the missions because people put a lot of work into them and they're fun to play
depending on your faction, I know the KDF side has a daily mission giver in the first city near the tailor and between the bar... she gives three missions to go run... each is a "go defeat three groups of..." which sends you to near by nebulas. they give out like 2K dil each
there are others similar missions, but they've been hit or mis if they show up... some in defera and others in New Romulus area...
unfortunately, I think the Feds are screwed on some of those
the randomized fed missions to go to a planet or starbase and click on 5 objects are gone and have been for some time.
there are a few dil missions out there, not many, but a few. If you still have not hit your daily refine cap after playing for a bit, you can always do the mines to top off or turn in a round of contraband.

So, is it possible say to have a mission (say 20 nearly identical ones) where all you need to is touch glowing objects for dil, provided they are played 20 times and take over 30 minutes to complete?

I'm not sure if these exist or not. They tend to be frowned upon because of how sketchy it is to make dil by doing nothing.
You can definitely make it a -lot- faster in something like the voth battlezone. Run through there in maybe ~30 minutes, defeat a V-rex or two and you'll hit the 8k cap in no time.

"Frowned upon" is an understatement. Such things are officially classified as exploits and dealt with as such.

How is it an exploit? Ok, so now I know shouldn't do it, and won't. But, isn't it cryptic's fault? You didn't hack/modify the game in any way, you're just following the rules they set down for missions (and it seems like they should have known from the beginning, seems blaringly obvious this would happen) hypocrites.
I remember these so-called missions in the Foundry. They were called 'Clickies' I think. Cheating, exploitative, underhanded way to rack up on Dil and goodies. Which would only be made/used by low lifes and the worst sort of gamer trash. The kind which gives all the rest of us a bad reputation. Not sorry they're gone. Hope they never come back.

If this question would come in the german Forum, I just would say "the foundry is not for dili. If you want dili, go to the Dyson-Ground-Zone", but ok, here nobody knows me and I'm not the Moderator
So... I think, If you go in a foundry-mission with the thought "I want Dili" you are doing something wrong. The foudnry is great for Storymissions, there are some missions that can be in one position with some of the episodes from the series.
But, if you really just want dili and want to become this from the foudnry, play the spotlights (I bet in the english section there are way more than the 15-20 (?) in the german foundry, so you can have much more.
But if you want to become effective Dilithium, go to the Dyson-Groundzone. 30-45 minutes and you have your 8k.
In the foudnry this could take some hours (and this is ok, the foudnry is not for dili).
