Tribble Maintenance and Release Notes - May 20, 2015

Tribble is being brought down for maintenance to update it to build ST.50.20150425a.17.

General:
  • Summer Event Buyback Store:
    • Added the ability to purchase R&D Packs and Upgrade Tech in bulk, up to 20 at a time.
    • Reduced Starship Emote shared cooldowns from 10 seconds to 6 seconds.
  • Foundry: Updated the Herald NPC Groups so that all of them are actually Heralds, and not those Bluegill impostors.
  • Resolved an issue where occasionally when a Duty Officer project failed, the project would disappear.
    • It will now go into the Completed category to allow the player to acknowledge them as failed.
  • Resolved an issue where chests and arms of male Remans were sometimes missing.

Systems:
  • Reduced the server performance impact of several types of powers.
    • These changes do not alter how these powers function.
  • Manheim Device: Disabled healing interactions with past and future self in order to prevent excessive latency when interacting with certain Starship Traits.
    • This functionality may be restored at some point in the future, but was removed to improve server performance.

Content:
  • Episodes “Blood of Ancients” and “Delta Flight” have been moved into the level 60 journal tab The Iconian War.
  • "Brotherhood of the Sword":
    • The Syndicate operative for the optional objective now should start with full health when he begins following the players for extraction.
      • This should make cases where players triggered the escort and he immediately dies less common.
      • Players will still need to kill any Heralds that target him in order to keep him alive.
    • The information for this queue in Advanced and Elite now accurately states the crafting reward is Craylon Gas.
  • The Federation freighter group in the Xarantine Sector is back.

Known Issues:
  • Occasionally, when accepting a new Episode, the sub tasks under the episode name will not initially appear in the mission tracker.
  • All ranks/qualities of Ambush Kit Modules above Green have the same effectiveness.

    Reduced the server performance impact of several types of powers.
    These changes do not alter how these powers function.
    Could u please give some more input on that, what exactly was change ?

    It's probably a wall of coding and text I'd say. Most likely some internal game engine stuff that would totally bamboozle 99% of the forum population.

    I just hope it starts to alleviate some of the lagity, lagity, skippity, skippity in the game .

    Basically we changed a bunch of powers that were implemented in a way that forced the server to run refresh updates on player power data structures really frequently, by building new code that allowed us to apply them in a way that did not do so. Bort is going through and updating the affected powers in a way that will make them less lag-inducing without changing their functionality.

    Hope it has some kind of effect. My buddy burstdragon and I, among others are in the situation where instead of network latency, these issues cause the game to eat our FPS for breakfast.

    Hey, is there any way we could get a list of exactly what player powers were rewritten? I think it would help the testing / math people around here track down any bizarre hiccups that may have been missed.

    On May 14 Jesse Heinig (ie: Salami_Inferno) posted a pickture on Twitter..

    It was of a piece of paper with the words "Server latency Hit List"

    (Jesse, nice camera... but ya might wanna reduce the image quality just a touch before you post something that might I can blow the image up in infranview and read the silly thing)

    Call it one hundred entries... all of choaks and issues server side causing problems... and your deling with computers and software.. Fixing one problem can suddenly unmask more issues. Its the way things work.

    It's a very long list, and before it gets shorter its likely to get longer..

    The studio has a lot of work ahead of it fixing this, and more importantly, making sure it doesn't happen again.

    Sure. Keep in mind that our intent is for none of the following abilities to have changed at all, as far as their player-facing mechanics are concerned. However, the nature of the changes made may have caused some of their descriptions to be altered.

    If any issues are noticed with any of the following, please post in the Bug Reports subforum.

    This is great work.

    I hope now, doing server performance trending is now part of your release test plans and production monitoring.

    I imagine it took a lot of coding and time to develop your trending software and improve your server logging of player and application actions.

    It is fantastic you guys took the time to do this.

    glad they are addressing it.

    The truth is sometimes harsh, and I am going to tell you what you have learned the hard way.

    Your greed has finally caught up with you by constantly pushing things out the door to make a buck without considering quality.

    That list should never have gotten that long.

    The pvpers who tested everything and provided feedback are basically gone from the game, which means cryptic needs to beef up their QA department to compensate.

    You need to SLOW DOWN and take the time to put out a quality product. There is another thread out there showing the special effects that exist in the game. How can you even tell where your target is.

    Do some regression testing. Follow proper QA guidelines and quit putting whatever out to make a quick return or you are going to have more layoffs in your future.
