Hi all, I hope this is an appropriate place to post this.
I've been playing STO for a long time, years, and I have a lifetime membership. I used to play every day for hours. However life caught up and I stopped playing for a while. The last time I played was shortly after the Delta Uprising update was released.
I'd like to get back into the game that I loved for so long, but it seems that sooo much content has been added and I have so much to relearn that it seems daunting, I really only just got my head around tier 6 ships (having much love for my Vesta for so long, this seemed sad).
Has anybody else felt the same about this or am I alone? Is there an easier way I could ease into all the new content, or a site to read while I wait for my 3.7Gb patch to download? (I'm in Australia, our broadband is **** here).

It's a lot.. yes, but just remember you don't have to do everything right now. It can seem overwhelming if you try to get into everything at once, I suggest that once you get in, you just go with the story missions. Playing those should get you back in the swing of how to play, how to control your ship and your character, etc.
Just take it one step at a time, the content won't be removed if you don't do it in time, just pick something you find fun and work on that. Take your time and have fun. Hope you enjoy your return to STO.

Yes, that's good advice. When I was playing lots, I would emerse myself in almost every aspect of the game. I have to get into the headspace of a casual STO player. You probably wont see me in Ker'rat any time soon I guess, what with power creep and all. I used to kick but in there. :-P
So I'll take it all in at a slower pace. Thanks for the advice :-)
I would think it would be a very bad sign if you left the game for a long time and came back and everything was the same as when you left.
This.
I remember a time when people complained that there wasn't enough new content. It's weird to see somebody complain that they are being "overwhelmed" by content in STO.
I don't think so. After your usual story arcs. You should have enough Lv build up to get into Lv60 easily. You don't really need to do the Reps unless you want to. I only done a couple due to they had story progression. Or unless I wanted something from them. Just skipping the Reps will get you current in no time.
Its all how much you want to do. Its all not about rushing either. Play at your own speed. That is what I do since I don't have time during the day. Since DR came out, I still hadn't got to Lv60. I still enjoy getting on to play. That is where is counts.

Sorry OP I absolutly 100% DISAGREE WITH YOU! There is not enough content! Seriously you can whip through ALL the content in a few weeks TOPS! I wish there was far more content!
Hi Abby, welcome back. I don't think a game can ever have "too much content". That said, if you have been away for a while, I would recommend starting fresh with a new character and experiencing the new tutorials and all of the other changes that have been made from the ground up. The game has come a long way since launch, and sometimes starting a new character is the best way to get caught up.

Too much playable content for an MMO....

Has anybody else felt the same about this or am I alone?
Hi Abby,
No, you're not alone in that feeling .
For example , "Intelligence ships" have been introduced into the game with Delta Rising about 7 months ago, but I've just started to dork around in one of them .
As others have said, take it slowly , it's all there for you .
At the same time try to figure out what do you want to do to catch up?
For example , we've moved from Mark 12 gear to Mark 14 .
Most Tier 5 ships can be upgraded to a status between T5 and T6, called T5U , so your Vesta is not a total loss .
Also keep in mind that very slowly they are re-releasing SOME of the T5 ships as T6 ships, so maybe in the future they'll make a T6 Vesta, who knows ... .
The game has a good few hours of playable content (speaking about post-DR additions) and then a few queues of shooting fish in barrels. Beyond that, there is no playable content. Just replaying the same stuff. The confusing part is all the interface nonsense they added.
Wrong. Everything in the game is content. What you mean is, they aren't *mission* content, and that is true. However, there have been several new episodes added recently, plus several queues, all of which are mission content. Whether you like them or not is irrelevant to that fact.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you still aren't really correct. Since you are "playing" with ships, gear, and you are "playing" when doing that grinding you speak of, that is all part of the "playable content". Again, you are referring to *mission* content. That is where you actually *use* the ships and gear, and where you do the grinding. I get your point, you are just using the wrong terminology. And I am only replying because you seemed to take issue with other people's use of the term "content".
It says a lot that the only way you could find to agree with the OP was to edit out the bulk of the OP's post which included the topic of the complaint which was that the OP feels too much content has been added to the game since Delta Rising went live.
I had nothing to say to his first paragraph , and from his second one I picked up that he thought that his Vesta was a washout , so I touched on that .
Plus, with his claim of being a Lifer who stopped playing regularly AFTRR DR hit, the only way I could translate his claim to "too much content" was if I looked at gear & new powers .
... because we're literally drowning in those, and I too have reached a saturation point where a new console set power or a new / rehashed ability is just 'meh' now ... , and the recent soloing of ISA just confirmed that we've reached the same powercreep in the last 7 months, that it took us the previous 4+ years to get to . That too is kind of a metaphor of what the OP might have meant ...

I didn't mean to seem stubborn, I just want to try to explain my point.
Edit: What I'm trying to say is, we have lots of the frosting, but very little cake. Not much use for the gear and ships, and little variety to the queues we are supposed to repeat.
Not so much the content, the content is great. Idc about buying ships, and throw money at the game.
But more Reps, R&D, its just too much. Came back after a year and decided to ditch half my toons.
I think at the end of the day this is hurting Cryptic as personally in my scenario you guys will lose out on ALOT of the ships i would otherwise have bought for my alts.
Now for a constructive reply. As others have said, and I will add, a decent amount of content has been added over the last couple months, however one thing to keep in mind is that 99.9% isn't going anywhere. For the most part the story missions are great, the patrols add to the story, if they a bit repetitive. As someone who has also played since Day 1, and has a lifetime sub as well as 10+ characters I can say take your time running through the missions. Work gradually on the rep systems. Just have FUN playing the game! If you aren't in a fleet,, try to find a fleet or at least a small group of players to socialize with and run missions and ques with.
I haven't even played all the new episodes on ALL my characters just because I don't want to rush through it just to say its done. So many systems have changed, some good, some,, sorta good, but overall the game, in my opinion, is the best its ever been, and the stories and missions are getting better all the time.
Try to stay away from the negativity on the forums,, its very prevalent and although much of it is justified from a certain point of view, don't allow it to take away from your enjoyment of the game. If you stopped playing about the time delta rising came out,, then you aren't really THAT far " behind"
As far as ships go,, yes T6 ships are great! They have all kinds of fancy skills, and are really fun to play they are not a Pre-requisite for running the new missions. If you enjoy playing a certain ship, buy an upgrade token from the C-store or exchange and keep playing it. If you got some real $$ to spend on the game,, then you can NOT go wrong with either the command ships, Intel ships, or the new Pilot ships. I don't have the new pilot ships,, yet,, but the command and Intel ships are very nice and worth it in my opinion.
Another thing to take note of is the Delta Recruitment event that is still going on. Not sure if you like playing ALT's but if you create a character before the 26th and finish the tutorial, then that character not only GETS a TON on bonuses, but gives all your other characters a TON of bonuses once you reach certain points throughout the game.
In summary now is a GREAT time to get back in to STO. It may seem daunting with all the new systems, and missions,, etc,, but its still very playable as a casual player!!
FYI* I am not now or have ever been employed by Crytpic. For those that may say Im a Dev
" FANBOY" go pound sand Is the game perfect? Heck no!! Does it have bugs? Sure! What game doesn't? Just sit back and enjoy! If you ever get bored just hang around ESD with ZONE chat turned on,, its very,, entertaining in a weird " im not in Kansas anymore" sorta way.

If you want to be competitive and have long term fun in this game expect to buy a ship atleast t-6 for 30 dollars. consider that your starting expense. make sure you have enough toons who can use same ship in same faction. Play as normal (lots of advice out there for that) enjoy new content with your main and farm with the rest.

- ~10 Story Episodes
- ~10-20 Patrols (basically shoot 5x waves of Enemies)
- 1 Battlezone
- 6 PVE Queues
- a lot of new ways to waste Dilithium / Zen
Sorry but you didn't miss much ...
No. We want more featured episodes, more story content, more (and better designed) PVE queues.
Too many poorly designed systems
Yes. Rep, Levelling/Specialisation, Ship Traits, Craft/upgrade grind/lotto etc etc

There's nothing whatsoever to stop you carrying on with your Vesta perfectly successfully. Even in a post-T6 world it's a good ship in my opinion.

You only need to do the tutorial part for each character before May 21, so you should be able to do that in a day or two.
Then take your time. You have forever (more or less) to finish leveling up, and there is no due date for reaching level 50 or 60.
Grinding =/= playable content
Gear =/= playable content
