Hey guys this is a review of the new Federation Mercury pilot escort which have been realesed couple of days ago in the C-store.
Other 2 Federation pilot ships include Ajax and Icarus class pilot ships
which are science centric and engineering centric variants.
Have any of you got any of these new ships and how do you like them so far?
If so did you got it individually, in a faction bundle or have you maybe got that super bundle?
Check out the video!

I cannot see me using any version over a Phantom SS/OSS build with the Rep trait. The damage is not even close in terms of single target damage.
I can see using the SCI Pilot ship with a plasma build and embassy consoles and using the particle emission Torpedo. That might be decent multi-target damage, and some of the Pilot BOFF abilities might come in handy after getting a lot of aggro.
The big problem I have with these ships is NPCs spamming tractor beam, the same problem any escort has with NPCs. There are a few tricks in the Pilot tree/Pilot BOFF line to get out of that.
The other main problem is the actual Pilot BOFF skills. They don't come close to SS/OSS and the Rep Phantom trait. You can slot the Rep trait but you will be looking at a LOT of cooldown timers for the Pilot abilities and some of them are 2 minutes....lol. The Fed Intel Escort (fleet) just works a lot better.
Also, a lot of the skills for Pilot mean using max engines, which is fine.....but if you look at some of the skills they greatly increase the engine speed....so much that you are quickly out of range. That is great if you are looking to make a quick escape, but the whole point of an escort is massive damage.
The PILOT skill that let's you turn but still go in the same direction "looks" real nice, but you quickly fly out of range, and when you turn you are firing at a different shield facing. What works is using your cannon rapid fire ability and when you get real close just double tap backwards to fire the last CR volley off.
There is a PILOT skill that removes the weapon drain from your weapon and I think it is supposed to increase your firing rate.....but it shares a cooldown with Cannon Rapid fire. Does not seem very useful when you factor in your REP trait.
It's not that the Pilot ships/skills are bad, they just do not compare with the Fed Intel Escort. Maybe this is supposed to be an AOE escort type of thing, I guess it works well enough for that.
However, I do see a lot of players are really enjoying their pilot ships and that's good! They do look like great fun to fly, and I may eventually someday buy a totes-not-an-SR-71 for my KDF pirate.
Unfortunantly you are correct, but i presume i wasnt meant to be better then Intel powers, just different.

I do like how you can toggle the effect anytime, so you don't HAVE to drift out of range.
So far, LT seems to be the most versatile Boff power from the Pilot spec.
Actually the new pilot mechanic is quite good, but you will have fun with the Vesta for sure. Just make sure to get the elite Yellowstones

If i get the rest of them for sure.

Star Trek Gamers
Go for it, they are really good. But my advice dont use real money, grind the dilithium.

Its a very odd "science ship", actually, I don't even consider it a science ship..if anything it reminds me of the kumaris.
What I like is the 7 weapons slots.
And the integrated barrel rolls (found these rolls to be very handy) for quick positioning to an open shield facing, getting in close quickly for TBR, or to get out of the way of pesky warpcore breaches.
And its a lot of fun to pilot.
Also really like the penetration trait
What I didn't enjoy.
No commander science skill
No secondary deflector
No sensor analysis
5 tac console slots (4 wouldve been perfect imo)
Basically, its not for heavy science users.
But it does make an interesting platform for an energy/light science build.
Which is what I run normally. So I'm enjoying it a lot.
You can run a gw1 and tbr 1, and the pen trait is nice when firing(FaW) into a gw clustered mob.
Fits my pve style perfectly.
Excellent video, thank you for sharing it.
And congratulations on managing to get a lag free ISA run, haven't seen one in a long time.
These ships are cool, I liked the way you would use that forward jump to fly past spheres and then spin on a dime and resume firing, that's a cool trick. The jump backward when you're nose to nose with a Cube is pretty cool to.
Overall, I didn't pick up the Pilot ships, I'm pretty happy with my Intel Escort but I like that these ships offer something different. Hopefully, it will help mix things up a bit so we see some more Escorts out there. They were starting to become a rare sight indeed.
To be fair, it's not marketed as a Science Ship. It's a Science focused Escort, just like the Geneva Command Cruiser isn't a Science Ship, it's a Science focused Cruiser.
I know it can get a little confusing just reading the titles, but generally, only ships specifically labeled 'Science Vessel' have the Sensor Scans and Secondary Deflectors.
Like the guy said earlier its not a pure science ship its just a science centric escort.
As its an escort the safest bet is to go with the tactical varient. If you really want a science ship there are a lot of great science ships out there.
