time to upgrade them and leave them there, out of all the things to fix, they decide to come around and fix this.

"•Players may no longer equip two different "Ancient Omni-Directional Beam Array" by Upgrading one and leaving the other un-Upgraded. ◦Only one of this weapon is intended to be equipped at a time.
◦Players that have more than one currently equipped will not have their items removed, but will be unable to replace them if removed for any reason."

    Entirely justified fix.

Nothing to see here. Please move on.

In my opinon they fixed an obvious discrepancy with Antiproton set pieces in correlation with an oversight within the upgrade system.

They even left it intact for those geniuses around using it.

Now how this could bug anybody is beyond me.

if you load a preset loadout and return to the current one, wonder if it'll still equip

what happens then if you jump to another ship with a complete differant build, then back again are they removed..?

guess we'll find out later cause I have 3 on the back of my phantom and breen carrier.

I'm not game enough to find out, I'm going to grind out another few beams for my other ships

If you don't have another pair, then yes, they will be stripped in order to be equipped on the other ship - at which point you're likely to get a nice little error message be unable to equip both again thereafter...

I wasn't actually aware of this exploit so it's no big deal to me. As for cryptic being nice and letting those running two ancient beams keep them equipped...they know in time the load out system will kick them off either way. Only delaying the inevitable. ;-)

Does equipping two of them give you the 2-piece set bonus without the core? Because that's the only reason I could see why anyone would want to equip two of them.

so is it just the ANCIENT Omni beams bug that's being fixed or does this extend to the crafted Omni beams too?

Can you even equip 2 standard AP omni's at the same time?

my take on people having THREE ap beams is that they have one unmodified Ancient beam with infinity mark, then one Ancient Omni at mk 12 and then a crafted AP Omni beam to get a total of 3 AP beams.........................

damn....why didn't I think of this earlier?? Could've done this with the cruisers..................s hit....too late now.

Exactly this, the bug allowed you to have two ancient beams (one upgraded, one left alone) plus a crafted omni beam. After the patch today, you will be allowed one ancient and one crafted omni AP beam only (which ias working as intended)

Not quite, there are still 3 hours (correct at time of posting) before patching begins, that's more than enough time to burn through the mission a couple of times, gather the required dilithium and upgrade one beam, the crafted still isn't fixed so you can add that at a later date.

They could run a check on the database to see who has two weapons equipped after it's fixed and just mark one as unequipped so when you log in no ship has two equipped. Or just have the query remove all of those types of beams from being in slot to the inventory so that next time you log in you have to make a choice like everyone else.

You didn't have to *actually* upgrade them; just selecting "upgrade" converts it from a levelless infinity-tier item to a Mk XII one, which could be equipped alongside.

Let them use the omni-beams, no real big difference there. Just more people flying in circles smashing the space bar.

Why would you want a Mk X beam on your ship anyway?

Why would they bother when the patch notes say they are letting the players that have both slotted keep them?

I know...kinda moronic...like saying..."Here, you exploited a bug and we know it's a bug, we're fixing the bug but feel free to continue exploiting the bug!"

Beam boats can get up to 8 beam arrays firing in the same arc using 2 ancients, 1 omni, and 1 cutting beam in aft slots.
Beam boats have always been able to get 8 arrays on target, broadside. And you'll do more damage with real beam arrays than the ancients that count as turrets.

Well it did/does allow for someone to be able to use DBB's up front...could be able to use all energy with a Escort or 3 Omnis and a KCB for Cruisers...

If I were making the decision at Cryptic, I would have this patch force all OD beams to automagically unequip, requiring the player to re-equip only one. Remember the prototype console fiasco? The devs should never allow that kind of situation to recur.

Well, when I loaded tribble the beam was in my overflow bag, so I think it'll be in my overflow in an hour or so.

I wonder how many people still have those old prototype science consoles, that for a time where left at their original skill values when the rest was nerfed, until the devs saw the errors of their way and nerfed them, too, and allowed to turn them in for Latinum...

I think however that this problem is much less notable. Most people will inveriably end up tweaking their setup and lose that benefit just incidentally.
